    FACING MY FEARS.. THE LONGEST ROAD TUNNEL IN THE WORLD! (Van Life Norway)
    This week Lou faces her ridiculous fear of tunnels, as we drive under the longest road tunnel in the world!! In fact we end up going on a bit of a Norwegian history tour of it's road system, with a fascinating hike across Vindhellavegan visiting a well kept ancient road!
    Norway has some of the best hikes in the world, and although this one isn't as famous as perhaps Trolltunga or Pulpit rock, it's definitely interesting!
    Join us as we road trip across Norway in this vlog where we are driving and seeing what we find along the way.
    If you've ever wanted to know how easy it is to wild camp and find motorhome services in Norway then this video covers all of that!

    I don't think non vloggers understand how much it disrupts your day having to plant the camera, walk away from it, walk past it, go back an pick it up, catch up to where you were and repeat and then to do that on a bloody steep hill. I'm far too lazy, but that's why your vlogs are so good. Well done Lou.

    I've just discovered your channel and have been binging for the last 2 weeks. I make myself stop after 6 episodes a night! anyhow, I totally sympathize with Lou when it comes to tunnels. i tend to hyperventilate! But I also sympathize with Emily and her snack cupboard.... you tend to get the shakes when it gets too low. Loving your banter and the fact that you are so down to earth. If you ever come to Northern Ontario, Canada you will always have a place to stay here on our farm. AJ and our Molly could run the fields!

    The wood on the stave churches is actually bog wood almost petrified, some thousands of years old, the peat in Norway is black so the colour of the wood turns black over time it’s the hardest wood around, and was used in or way to build from circa 2000 + years ago. Norway looks incredible and you two are cracking me up as usual, 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your VanLife with us Old Owl 🦉 Alaya UK.

      @haakonoeritsland5335 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Actually, it is just pine wood with a high content of resin (the trees were partially debarked some years before being felled, allowing the wood to saturate with sap/resin). After building with this wood, they painted it with burnt wood tar over and over, thus building up a thick, protective layer of brown/black, hardened tar. The stave churches are still being maintained the same way, using wood tar made the same way as back then.

      Why the chuch is black is because they maintaind it with tar. Over the years it became black, thats why.

  • @norwegianroads2152
    @norwegianroads2152 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What was said when the tunnel was opened was that the wider areas with the blue light was to break the monotony. I think the fear was that people would fall asleep while driving through the tunnel. The road over the mountain, Aurlandsfjellet, takes about an hour more than going through the tunnel. It is one of those narrow switchback roads that we have some of here in Norway. I have driven it in a VW Polo. I would not like to drive it in a van.
    Kiwi is a good choice for relatively inexpensive groceries. So is Rema 1000 and Coop Extra. Meny, Spar and Coop Obs are usually more expensive. Petrol stations are usually the most expensive choice

    Yes you've done it again! I'm sure the gorgeous landscape helps but this was really nicely produced. What I love about you two is that it feels like I could just be hanging with you two in the van while you talk. I like it as much as those narrations of other vloggers, as with you I feel like I'm really following you along, not just watching.
    Anyway I totally felt that church comment lol. My girlfriend used to be an evangelical Christian and her whole family hates me for seducing her off the straight and narrow which is funny considering she put the moves on me, but alright. Considering my career is based on helping women stand on their own two feet after their religion (Islam, Christianity or Judaism, doesn't matter what flavor) told them they can only be a stay at home wife with no education or self-sufficiency they might be onto something, whoops!

    The surface of the stave churches are covered by "tjære" (wood pine tar). It is an old viking recipe using "tyri ved" ( fatwood) that is full of sap to extract the maximum amount of tar. This is very flammable which accounts for a lot of lost churches lost to fires.

    Wow! The look on Louise’s face through the tunnel was so panicked I felt for her 100%! I’m not even worried about tunnels but that one seemed daunting honestly. The church Emily reviewed was so cool!! The woodwork was so unique and beautiful! The hike was awesome and usually in vlogs it’s hard to capture the incline but you truly did - what fun! Your vlogs are just top of the line and your open with the viewers along the journey which makes us feel like friends who’ve yet to meet. When you have harpin turns over and over again, dont press the engine and take the engine down to almost stopping. Go down one gear and hold the speed in the engine so the turbo
    help you better.
    When you drop down to almost stopping, the turbo doesn’t help you ahead.

    The garage where emptied the sewage and got the water it likely owned by the municipality. The other van parker there at 23:17 have "Hemsedal kommune" ="Hemsedal municipality" and their coat of arms with "tenkisk drift" below. So it is a vehicle used for maintaining infrastructure in the municipality.

    I couldn't see it mentioned in the comments (tbh I probably only scrolled through 1/3rd). But I've been told the "moodlights" in the tunnel and other long tunnels are to make sure drivers don't fall asleep at the wheel. I've seen similar things for long, straight stretches of road where they add statues or weird random stuff along the road or in the trees around the road. If it's correct or not, I don't know, but at least that is what I am been told as a Norwegian growing up with these things.
    Edit; also the underwater tunnel is where my fear is at. I have no fear for massive mountains "falling down" (though it is a legit fear and I won't mock it), but I have an intense fear of drowing. So living in Norway when they keep building under-water tunnels to avoid ferries and bridges, is making me nervous lol. I got a goal of driving through Ryfylketunnelen to conquer some of those fears

    You should have gone over the mountain rather than through the tunnel. It takes a lot more time, but totally worth it! Thanks for bringing us up to the hike up the Vindhellavegen. Never been there, but it's now on the todo list.

    Another great video with fantastic scenery, you’re so making me and hubby want to visit Norway, never realised what a beautiful country it is! Well done Lou for making it through the tunnel, you could sure see how anxious you were to get through it! Shout out to Emily too, I think you’ve done really well with the snack cupboard and I think Lou should let you off with the tenner 😊 A shout out to AJ, I love seeing him standing there between you watching where you’re going… I hope the weather improves for you, carry on with the great videos 😊😊 xx

    Well done on overcoming your fear of tunnels! If you do it another few times, you probably won't even notice it any more. I felt a bit insecure using the Eurotunnel the first time, especially with the "in case of an emergency" announcements, but after 20 years of frequent use, I don't even think about being under the sea anymore😊The longest road tunnel I have driven through (many times) is the Gotthard Tunnel (10.5 miles).

    Louise's fear of tunnels is the same as mine driving along single track roads and there are a lot round where I live. Once I was going along one, enjoying the view, 6 feet in front of my bonnet, a car came round a blind corner and managed to stop within a coat of paint. With tunnels, think that the the rock has been there for millions of years so if it collapses in that precise second you're underneath it, you are one very unlucky person, person, dog and cat. Well done Louise, you have faced and beaten your demons!! Next time it will be a piece of cake. Excellent video, as always.

      There is a great video called "Norwegian helicopter Induces a Rock Fall beside a Fjord". This rock would have come down one way or another. Fortunately, they found it and got it down in a controlled fashion, with the road below closed. Now imagine the other rocks they do not know about. Not something you want thru the sunroof.

    Awww thank for stopping at the church, I saw that and wanted to stop (but my journey meant I couldn't) somewhere to go back to 👍
    That road looks awesome.
    I do hope in your snack shopping you've bought yourself some Kvikk Lunsj (in a red, yellow and green packet)? You can thank me later 😉🤣

    Hi Emily. Well, there's tree houses and there's tree houses, but that's a tree house! Fancy putting Louise through the steep climb thing - you know how good she is at that sort of thing......Yes, get the snacks replenished, people will have forgotten about the ice cream incident. Looks a bit chilly over there. The gothic church looked interesting but I must confess that Louise said "The church and me have never really got on" I think that's something we've got in common! Stay safe girls, regards Reg.

    Hello Emma and Louise, thought I would let you know that we enjoying follow you so much on your road trip. I thought the scenery in Scandinavian would be beautiful but it's actually stunning, more beautiful than i could imagine. AJ and Summer are so good, love seeing AJ place his head on the dash. Do you ever worry they would run out of the van door? Summer lives exploring the world around her.
    You two are so entertaining, you're got to be our favourite to watch, in the nicest way possible, we enjoy listening to you two tease and bicker, like an old married couple it is hilariously funny, you are made for each other.... brilliant, such a nice couple. Happy travelling.

    Well done with the tunnel! Just a couple of thoughts...
    At least with distances being marked in kilometers, rather than miles, you get through it quicker!
    Also (and I can say this now you've done it), after all those miles of the tension and fear building, was the bright light getting ever closer encouraging, or were you thinking "bollocks, this is it"? 😂
