I recently bought an original Xbox and am collecting for it. So many memories from my teen years. I have been playing Project Gotham Racing 1&2, Amped Freestyle Snowboarding, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, RLH Run Like Hell, and Halo 1&2. I have been enjoying playing original Xbox games over anything new as of late.
If you like racing games I highly recommend Rallisport Challange 2, Forza 1, Richard burns rally (yes even better on pc but still amazing on Xbox) and Sega GT.

I have played Forza and Sega GT 2002 is a pretty good game, I had the Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future bundle at one time when I was a teen-ager. I also want to get the Toca Race Driver games as well, I think they are also pretty good. The OG Xbox has so many great racing games/ games In general.
Over here finding OG Xbox games has actually become a bit more rare. But 360 games can be snagged up cheaply with regularity. Probably not a bad idea to build a collection now, before things inevitably explode in price in 20 years. Collecting both, myself. The OG Xbox has a surprisingly solid library and I feel it's overlooked a lot.
The 10 best years in video games were from 1995 (with the launch of the original Playstation) to 2005 (with the launch of the Xbox 360). I still have my original Xbox, had a lot of great times with it.
I love the OG Xbox, been collecting for it since it launched 21 years ago - HD compatible, no memory card needed, custom soundtracks - will always be one of my favourite consoles and the HD compatibility has kept it hooked up in my main gaming set up while most other retro consoles are separate under my ‘thank god it still works’ CRT setup.
@Aivis well, the games are usually cheaper than ps2 versions, have better graphics, support HD in many more cases, support custom soundtracks, and don’t require a memory card thanks to the built in hard drive. So I’d say that’s why. But, to each their own.
Hey Stu, what type of TV setup and HDMI converters do you use? Can you elaborate on this? I found that ps2 with HDMI converter looks bad/blurry on a 4k tv. Which is why I read that you need to use a crt tv for ps2. Would like to just game on original hardware. Emulators are cool but something about playing on original hardware is the best.
@@DIYStangsandFreedom the Xbox supports 720p/1080i and even 1080p on occasion natively with RGB cables - no mods needed. You can usually find third party cables pretty cheap. The biggest issue with gaming on OG Xbox is some tv’s don’t have RGB/AV inputs anymore, I’ve seen lots of tvs on the market that are HDMI only these days - long as you avoid that you should be golden
Wow my OG Xbox was stuffed into a box in the basement for 4 years and I just decided to pull it out and set it up on Friday! I was feeling really nostalgic for some Burnout 3 Takedown and it fired right up with component RGB cables. It was a blast remembering how I felt 18 years ago when I first played Burnout 3 and it’s still one of my all time favorite games, I forgot how challenging it could be too. We need a remaster!
I loved Burnout 2 and 3. I could not get into Paradise at all. I wish they would revisit the circuit style arcade racers. To me the closest game has been Wreckfest.
The original forza motorsport towards the end of the og xbox's life was mind blowing. I don't know how I would feel about these games now but I have fond memories of escaping my crappy reality in my teenage years to the emersion I got from xbox and gamecube games. Have to say, I think the graphics on the OG Xbox hold up really well today. Really putting me in the mood to grab mine from my storage unit. Remember just being amazed that you could rip CDs to the hard drive and play in games. Just blew me away.
Xbox Classic is a really awesome console in 2022 👍 Main problem is I had couple of discs in my collection those where bad. Like I wonder if most game still work over 10 years ? 😳

I’ve actively been collecting for The original Xbox for about 2 years now. Original Xbox was the first console I bought with my own money when I was younger and my current collection is a little over 25% of the NTSC games!
Original Xbox was my favorite system to collect for, and I had a pretty epic collection. But a tornado wiped it all out last year. All tallied, I lost about double my insurance limit. That's counting all systems and games, at market value as of time of loss. Was floored and devastated to see what years of collecting added up to, but it's definitely a testament to the financial viability of just collecting the games you love, as you can afford, over decades. It's not money wasted... unless a natural disaster makes it all go poof in an instant.
Sorry to hear that mate with the tornado, although I don't live in an area that has tornados obviously there are other disasters and it has often worried me with my collection as some of the systems and games I would probably not be able to replace again even if I had enough insurance coverage.

I work in recycling, mainly paper, but we do take electronic waste as well. Well someone brought a box of what we thought was just books. Charged her 10$ to drop it off, it had like 40 PS2 games. All complete, a couple even sealed still! Insane. My boss is reselling what was valuable and I got to keep the rest! Love when this happens 😂
I've been on this for the past month. Picked up a LE Halo Ed Xbox and started stacking games immediately for cheap. The gems are no less than $30 and up but you can grab legit great games for $4-$10 complete. Still highly playable and loads of fun.

You should look into the Brooks Wingman XB. Its compatible with OG Xbox via a usb adapter and enables use of modern controllers like the XS/Elite controllers or the DS4/DualSense. The black/white buttons get remapped to the bumpers.
I've been focusing alot on collecting for the fifth generation of consoles in general. Just got Metal Gear Solid 2 for the XBox not too long ago. This generation was such an awesome and creative time for video games!

Only a few games and only on Xbox could you see 720p in 6th gen, and Soul Calibur 2 is the best I think, running at a crisp 60fps in high resolution 4:3. It's like a remaster compared to the PS2 and GC versions.

Great advice. I've been doing this with the og Xbox & PS3 over the past couple of months to get in before the market starts really climbing on those systems. I've got about as many Xbox games now as my PS2 collection, and if there's a multiplat game I'm probably gonna get the Xbox version since it looks/plays better and it's a fraction of the price. I can't justify the prices on some of my preferred systems for the physical copies so I've also started down the path of ODE. Since I have so many multiples of each console I can have my cake & eat it too. Of course I'm still willing to shell out the cash for certain titles I really enjoy just to have them. I've never particularly ever had the desire to go for a "complete" game collection for any system, not even digitally. I just want the games that I like. But there still exists the problem of supply & demand, finding these older games in the wild at a garage sale or fleamarket is a lot different now than it was 10 years ago. I almost never get good scores anymore like I used to because A) they're just not out there as much as they used to be, or B) I have a lot more competition than I used to, in my case there's a number of local "hunters" that scoop up everything and resell it for top dollar. And forget finding a good deal at a retro game store anymore. Yeah, they might have some banger titles in the glass case, but you're paying for em.
My local glass case had the og xbox spyro game (reboot) for $60. I folded but I always wanted the hard copy. Crazy tho. Also had king kong on 360 which, I folded again but thats one of my most nostalgic games and was willing to spend the $50 at the time. Felt real silly but fuck it

It was like 5 bucks cheaper than a cib copy ebay so I was like whatever. But I didn't realize at the time that the case was printed and it didn't have a manual. I was fucking pissed, but I think that was the last PS2 AC game I needed. King Kong on 360... that brings back memories. Myself and a few friends were at our 24/7 Walmart late one night, probably 2-3am. One of my friends was playing the King Kong demo fighting the Trex and beats it. He yells out "I'm King Fucking Kong bitch. Eat my dick you prehistoric assholes!" . This shween looking dude comes around the corner like "Sir, you can't do that. I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store if you do it again". I think we went on to have lightsaber duels & ride bikes around and got kicked out eventually anyway.

In the last few years, I’ve regretted selling my Xbox and all my games back when the 360 came. And then recently I’ve played the original battlefront/kotor on my 360 and it still looks great. I need to get one again for xmen legends 2, Batman vengeance, republic commando, bf2, and so many others

I just bought a PS2 Slim at second hand store for $30. Walked to the game store and picked up a few ps2 games for $60. It's awesome. I'd highly recommend not waiting out for the "perfect" find and get whatever is available if you are interested in starting a collection.
i just got an original xbox half a month ago. My experience with it is really good I loved playing through halo combat evolve and I also have a copy of gta san andreas which Im finishing currently right now. Games are super cheap and I find them all the time at savers and goodwills. So if anyone here needs the question answered if they should jump on a original xbox, I have to say from my experience just go for it especially now that we know that xbox has ended its support with adding original xbox games to the xbox series of consoles. They only managed to port around 48 titles and there is 800 original xbox games so there is alot to play and alot of good split screen local multiplayer games. so go for it!
Started collecting for the OG Xbox about a year and a half ago when i found a copy of the futurama game at a goodwill for 2.99. Still the most valuable game in my collection but it has grown a lot since then
That futurama game today is worth about $450 today lol. Shadow The Hedgehog is a must have in the collection and The Simpson Hit & Run are other games . They are worth from $70-$120 now😢
I just recently got back into gaming. I’ve not owned a console since the original Xbox. I broke my old console out and I’ve been playing and buying games. It’s a blast. I also just picked up a PS5. I have really missed gaming.
Absolutely love the OG Xbox. If your buying one now either do your homework first, some models have failing cpu capacitors while many more suffer from clock cap leakage. Die hard xbox fans will be bored of hearing about it but it’s worth considering. At this point unopened Xbox’s are more of an issue than ones that have been opened and maintained. Pro tip: Disc drives that don’t open are the best 😉👍
Last month I discovered OG Xbox is one of the last cheap video game collecting frontiers. On eBay I grabbed 40 ish games for about 60 bucks with all the staple titles you can think you. I'm glad there is still some cheap retro collecting to be done, though it's weird to think of OG Xbox as retro. It's also a beast of an emulation console.
These videos bring more light to these consoles and games and og Xbox games are going to start climbing in price. So glad I got most the ones I wanted years ago.
OG Xbox is such an under-rated system. It brought that PC like type gaming to consoles, made internal hard drives the new norm, high speed online gaming and made the FPS relevant on consoles. Great 1st console by MS.
I've started a collection on og Xbox an I've got one of the rarest games to get your hands on outrun coast 2 coast which is nice to have in the collection of games
Be sure to remove the clock capacitor folks. I just lost my OG Xbox 2 days ago and I'm pretty sure that's the cause 😭. All my childhood gaming saves are on that old console which makes it hurt that much more
You might be able to fix the console, or at the very least you can save your game saves if you get another Xbox and an EEPROM reader. You’d use the EEPROM reader to get the EEPROM key from the dead Xbox’s motherboard. Then you’d change the EEPROM on the replacement Xbox to that key. Then you could just plop in your HDD with your game saves and be up and running again. Alternatively, you could also use the EEPROM reader and an IDE to SATA adapter. You’d use the key to unlock the HDD (so you can view it’s contents) with XboxHDM 2.3 USB beta and then I think you would from there be able to then use FATXplorer Beta 3.0 to view your game saves folder on the HDD (UDATA folder) and copy them to your PC. If you need guidance and are able or willing to do either of these, create a post on the original Xbox subreddit on Reddit and you’ll get help.
Been collecting for the OG Xbox last couple of months and has been a blast! Only regret is that I didn't got to play with it when it came out. Lots of fun games.
Mortal Kombat SHaolin Monks was a GREAT game. I loved it and I was so looking forward for its sequel, MK: Fire & Ice with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but that game got sadly cancelled. I beat that game twice with Liu Kang & Kung Lao and twice with Sub-Zero & Scorpion (unlockeble), The 1st time with me and a friend and the 2nd time was me & my then girlfriend. Lovely memories.
I just recently started collecting for the OG Xbox and already 10 games in. Half are stinkers but still super fun to see the history behind my go to console. Got several titles I’m currently looking for so hopefully I can get them before they become impossibly expensive

Already beat you too it Spawnwave!! Started a few weeks ago. Started off with X-MEN Legends 1 & 2. Picked up Halo 1 & Halo 2 along with KOTOR 1 & 2 and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy lastly Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Then I picked up a PS2 Slim and started collecting for it as well. Picked up the entire SOCOM Series. Then Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 followed by Champions Heros Of Norrath & Return To Arms. Last but not least MGS 3: Subsistence!! Split the 007 Series between the two Consoles along with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six.
I was a PS2 user when the Original Xbox came out. I got mine in 2006 when they became cheap. bought like 15 games such as Halo, Splinter Cell, Half Life 2, Doom 3, Ninja Gaiden, Hitman Blood Money, Max Payne etc. I have collected a few more titles because of the Xbox One BC. And i also got plenty of free with GwG. After the PS2 generation i got a Xbox 360. Later on did got a PS3 for those exclusives. Also recently collecting more Third Party titles. Most of the games are ranging from 5-20 euro. So still a good time to pick these up while the prices are good. I Must have bought over 50 Games by now. But was worth every penny. Because who know's how much they're going charge for them in the upcoming years. Plus The X360 and PS3 can still be connected to a HDTV, and Online is still available for the majority of title's. But will if i ever get to play them all??? Unlikely. But working on it slowly.
This makes me the most sad. When I was a kid I traded in about 50 Xbox games to Play and Trade. They gave me store credit and didn't warn me I only had a year to use it. Came back more than a year later and they claimed I wasn't even in the system anymore because it had been so long. For me as a kid that was an absolute tragedy. Ever since then I've warned people that Play and Trade robs children so end of the day maybe I cost them more than they made.
Why would anyone trade in games. Even as a kid I was either gonna trade with friends and acquaintances or sell on platforms like ebay or on forums. I would never have gone to a shop like gamestop when I know they’d just rip me off.
Just putting it out there, if anyone is trying to downsize their collection and is looking to get rid of a massive box full of games I will happily take it off your hands for you, it’s really not a problem for me
Very few games on the Xbox are 480i only, but with a Modded Console (which I assume pretty much every one has at this point) it's incredibly trivial to patch them to run in 480p. Which means functionally the entire Library is at minimum 480p, which is better than the other console where 480i is inevitable in some games, regardless of what cables you use.
The OG Xbox is more appealing than ever now. Games are cheap, plenty of local multiplayer games, good exclusives, and Insignia reviving Xbox Live for good makes the console a better investment than ever.

I love the original Xbox & have close to 240 favorites for the system as well as having 2 very clean modded Xbox consoles, one with a 500GB HDD & Coin Ops 8 installed in it with Purple LED lighting, the ultimate Xbox!
I absolutely loved justice league heroes back in the day lol. I actually played through it like 3 times on 3 different systems. I originally played it on PS2 and then while deployed I played it on PSP and I picked it up for my Xbox later. And if I remember correctly it will actually play on the Xbox 360. One of the few co-op games I played completely through with a friend as well
The amount of quality Xbox exclusives is staggering. Deathrow, JSRF, PGR, Amped & RalliSport 2 to name a few. I've never seen the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that Xbox exclusive game is a masterpiece. Even more fun than the developer's subsequent release, the X1 backwards compatible Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. The combat in Buffy was just flawless. Too bad the sequel Chaos Bleeds wasn't as good.
Dude, I just snagged one from my local game shop. Going from mainly collecting ps1 and snes, I can't believe how cheap xbox games are! I also snagged the hdmi adapter, and the games actually look pretty good
My brother's and I loved the xbox. We kept the system and games and I have it. It stopped working but I restored and it got it working again. Love it! I'm working on expanding the library!
The only thing I'd be concerned with the og Xbox is the hdd I'm sure this one has been replaced with an ssd with the original os installed onto it but if not that could become an issue as it ages another thing is the Xbox got more pc ports because it was basically a Dell laptop customized to run direct x and shoved into a console case

It's a little weird and has me curious. Is the delusion based on something in particular, or did you just pluck it out of a hat? DirectX is an API. It can be ported to *anything*. Hardware doesn't need to be customised to run DIrect X. Direct X is customised to support hardware. Also, the xbox is based on x86, but it also has custom hardware. Not a single piece of hardware in it is the same as off the sheld components, sans the storage. It sure as heck has *nothing* to do with Dell.

Found my first OG Xbox around 2006-2007 at a Goodwill for $30. I bring it home, and to my surprise when I boot it up, the EvoX Dashboard. I later then found out later when I pulled the motherboard out to do something with the system (I can't remember what) it had a 1st Gen Xbox Enigmah Modchip soldered to the underside of the motherboard. Though being young and stupid at the time I removed it after installing a softmod, and I unfortunately no longer have that old chip. But it is still my main Xbox, and now currently is TSOP Flashed, and with a (extremely overkill) 1TB HDD, and in a Ruby Clear XCM case. (Which I got the XCM case for a steal back in the day, now they seem to be worth a fortune) I've also got 3 other Xboxes that i've TSOP flashed, one had a semi-corrupted TSOP that would only allow the system to boot once every 15-20 attempts from a cold boot, but after an ordeal I managed to get it flashed which completely fixed the boot issues.

I remember Black and the hype that surrounded it. Said to be the cutting edge of physics based simulation in the gaming industry at the time. It was more or less a $60 tech demo.
I grew up on the original Xbox. Marvel vs capcom 2 was one title me and my brothers used to always play. Spawn Armageddon is another title that come to mind.

Same here. I just bought 2 from an auction and had to re-sell them locally on FB Marketplace because both of the xbox consoles couldn't read discs. I didn't want to try to fix them up b/c I didn't know what I was doing so I sold them to someone who works on them.
So many of these titles are backwards compatible and even optimized for XB1 / Series X and that's awesome. Justice League Heroes was one of the first games I beat, watched the ending then started a second playthrough immediately 👍

Wow my OG Xbox was stuffed into a box in the basement for 4 years and I just decided to pull it out and set it up on Friday! I was feeling really nostalgic for some Burnout 3 Takedown and it fired right up with component RGB cables. It was a blast remembering how I felt 18 years ago when I first played Burnout 3 and it’s still one of my all time favorite games, I forgot how challenging it could be too. We need a remaster!
I loved Burnout 2 and 3. I could not get into Paradise at all. I wish they would revisit the circuit style arcade racers. To me the closest game has been Wreckfest.
I had a blast going through that game a year ago though I played it using XBox 360 Backward Compatibility.

The original forza motorsport towards the end of the og xbox's life was mind blowing.
I don't know how I would feel about these games now but I have fond memories of escaping my crappy reality in my teenage years to the emersion I got from xbox and gamecube games.

Have to say, I think the graphics on the OG Xbox hold up really well today. Really putting me in the mood to grab mine from my storage unit. Remember just being amazed that you could rip CDs to the hard drive and play in games. Just blew me away.

I’ve actively been collecting for The original Xbox for about 2 years now. Original Xbox was the first console I bought with my own money when I was younger and my current collection is a little over 25% of the NTSC games!
Great video. Growing my collection as well. The original xbox and the 360 were amazing. So many creative games.
Original Xbox was my favorite system to collect for, and I had a pretty epic collection. But a tornado wiped it all out last year. All tallied, I lost about double my insurance limit. That's counting all systems and games, at market value as of time of loss. Was floored and devastated to see what years of collecting added up to, but it's definitely a testament to the financial viability of just collecting the games you love, as you can afford, over decades. It's not money wasted... unless a natural disaster makes it all go poof in an instant.
Sorry to hear that mate with the tornado, although I don't live in an area that has tornados obviously there are other disasters and it has often worried me with my collection as some of the systems and games I would probably not be able to replace again even if I had enough insurance coverage.

I work in recycling, mainly paper, but we do take electronic waste as well. Well someone brought a box of what we thought was just books. Charged her 10$ to drop it off, it had like 40 PS2 games. All complete, a couple even sealed still! Insane. My boss is reselling what was valuable and I got to keep the rest! Love when this happens 😂
I've been on this for the past month. Picked up a LE Halo Ed Xbox and started stacking games immediately for cheap. The gems are no less than $30 and up but you can grab legit great games for $4-$10 complete. Still highly playable and loads of fun.

You should look into the Brooks Wingman XB. Its compatible with OG Xbox via a usb adapter and enables use of modern controllers like the XS/Elite controllers or the DS4/DualSense. The black/white buttons get remapped to the bumpers.
If you update the firmware, you can use Xbox one (not series x) controllers wirelessly as well.

I've been focusing alot on collecting for the fifth generation of consoles in general. Just got Metal Gear Solid 2 for the XBox not too long ago. This generation was such an awesome and creative time for video games!

I bought a bunch of original Xbox games last year as they were really cheap and I have a strong feeling that Xbox games are going to get more expensive in the near future.
I remember how big of an upgrade 720p was over 480p. It seems silly now, but back then it was night and day.
Only a few games and only on Xbox could you see 720p in 6th gen, and Soul Calibur 2 is the best I think, running at a crisp 60fps in high resolution 4:3. It's like a remaster compared to the PS2 and GC versions.
I never owned a OG Xbox. I had a 360. I did get Marvel vs Capcom 2 for like $50 disc only from GS back in the day. Nice to see it's valuable now

Great advice. I've been doing this with the og Xbox & PS3 over the past couple of months to get in before the market starts really climbing on those systems. I've got about as many Xbox games now as my PS2 collection, and if there's a multiplat game I'm probably gonna get the Xbox version since it looks/plays better and it's a fraction of the price.
I can't justify the prices on some of my preferred systems for the physical copies so I've also started down the path of ODE. Since I have so many multiples of each console I can have my cake & eat it too. Of course I'm still willing to shell out the cash for certain titles I really enjoy just to have them. I've never particularly ever had the desire to go for a "complete" game collection for any system, not even digitally. I just want the games that I like.
But there still exists the problem of supply & demand, finding these older games in the wild at a garage sale or fleamarket is a lot different now than it was 10 years ago. I almost never get good scores anymore like I used to because A) they're just not out there as much as they used to be, or B) I have a lot more competition than I used to, in my case there's a number of local "hunters" that scoop up everything and resell it for top dollar. And forget finding a good deal at a retro game store anymore. Yeah, they might have some banger titles in the glass case, but you're paying for em.
My local glass case had the og xbox spyro game (reboot) for $60. I folded but I always wanted the hard copy. Crazy tho. Also had king kong on 360 which, I folded again but thats one of my most nostalgic games and was willing to spend the $50 at the time. Felt real silly but fuck it
@@NC-cf7kl Sometimes the retro stores be playing games though... I bought a copy of Armored Core Ninebreaker I think it was from the glass case. It was like 5 bucks cheaper than a cib copy ebay so I was like whatever. But I didn't realize at the time that the case was printed and it didn't have a manual. I was fucking pissed, but I think that was the last PS2 AC game I needed.
King Kong on 360... that brings back memories. Myself and a few friends were at our 24/7 Walmart late one night, probably 2-3am. One of my friends was playing the King Kong demo fighting the Trex and beats it. He yells out "I'm King Fucking Kong bitch. Eat my dick you prehistoric assholes!" . This shween looking dude comes around the corner like "Sir, you can't do that. I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store if you do it again".
I think we went on to have lightsaber duels & ride bikes around and got kicked out eventually anyway.

In the last few years, I’ve regretted selling my Xbox and all my games back when the 360 came. And then recently I’ve played the original battlefront/kotor on my 360 and it still looks great. I need to get one again for xmen legends 2, Batman vengeance, republic commando, bf2, and so many others
gotta buy the bad boys back. Im in the same boat, except a generation after. Sold all my ps3 games when ps4 came out and have spent the last 2 years slowly buying them back. Not sure what I was thinking, selling childhood games for literal chump change at gamestop for no reason.
I just bought a PS2 Slim at second hand store for $30. Walked to the game store and picked up a few ps2 games for $60. It's awesome. I'd highly recommend not waiting out for the "perfect" find and get whatever is available if you are interested in starting a collection.
i just got an original xbox half a month ago. My experience with it is really good I loved playing through halo combat evolve and I also have a copy of gta san andreas which Im finishing currently right now. Games are super cheap and I find them all the time at savers and goodwills. So if anyone here needs the question answered if they should jump on a original xbox, I have to say from my experience just go for it especially now that we know that xbox has ended its support with adding original xbox games to the xbox series of consoles. They only managed to port around 48 titles and there is 800 original xbox games so there is alot to play and alot of good split screen local multiplayer games. so go for it!

Started collecting for the OG Xbox about a year and a half ago when i found a copy of the futurama game at a goodwill for 2.99. Still the most valuable game in my collection but it has grown a lot since then

That futurama game today is worth about $450 today lol. Shadow The Hedgehog is a must have in the collection and The Simpson Hit & Run are other games . They are worth from $70-$120 now😢

You don't even need to own an original Xbox, these games work on the Xbox 360 and One and Series S/X, Microsoft's backwards compatibility is amazing.

I just recently got back into gaming. I’ve not owned a console since the original Xbox. I broke my old console out and I’ve been playing and buying games. It’s a blast. I also just picked up a PS5. I have really missed gaming.
MVG hooked you up big time, lots of excellent games there. Some of the best ones really.
Absolutely love the OG Xbox. If your buying one now either do your homework first, some models have failing cpu capacitors while many more suffer from clock cap leakage.
Die hard xbox fans will be bored of hearing about it but it’s worth considering. At this point unopened Xbox’s are more of an issue than ones that have been opened and maintained.
Pro tip: Disc drives that don’t open are the best 😉👍
Last month I discovered OG Xbox is one of the last cheap video game collecting frontiers. On eBay I grabbed 40 ish games for about 60 bucks with all the staple titles you can think you. I'm glad there is still some cheap retro collecting to be done, though it's weird to think of OG Xbox as retro. It's also a beast of an emulation console.
These videos bring more light to these consoles and games and og Xbox games are going to start climbing in price. So glad I got most the ones I wanted years ago.
OG Xbox is such an under-rated system. It brought that PC like type gaming to consoles, made internal hard drives the new norm, high speed online gaming and made the FPS relevant on consoles. Great 1st console by MS.

Be sure to remove the clock capacitor folks. I just lost my OG Xbox 2 days ago and I'm pretty sure that's the cause 😭. All my childhood gaming saves are on that old console which makes it hurt that much more
You might be able to fix the console, or at the very least you can save your game saves if you get another Xbox and an EEPROM reader. You’d use the EEPROM reader to get the EEPROM key from the dead Xbox’s motherboard. Then you’d change the EEPROM on the replacement Xbox to that key. Then you could just plop in your HDD with your game saves and be up and running again.
Alternatively, you could also use the EEPROM reader and an IDE to SATA adapter. You’d use the key to unlock the HDD (so you can view it’s contents) with XboxHDM 2.3 USB beta and then I think you would from there be able to then use FATXplorer Beta 3.0 to view your game saves folder on the HDD (UDATA folder) and copy them to your PC.
If you need guidance and are able or willing to do either of these, create a post on the original Xbox subreddit on Reddit and you’ll get help.
Been collecting for the OG Xbox last couple of months and has been a blast! Only regret is that I didn't got to play with it when it came out. Lots of fun games.
Mortal Kombat SHaolin Monks was a GREAT game. I loved it and I was so looking forward for its sequel, MK: Fire & Ice with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but that game got sadly cancelled. I beat that game twice with Liu Kang & Kung Lao and twice with Sub-Zero & Scorpion (unlockeble), The 1st time with me and a friend and the 2nd time was me & my then girlfriend. Lovely memories.

Already beat you too it Spawnwave!! Started a few weeks ago. Started off with X-MEN Legends 1 & 2. Picked up Halo 1 & Halo 2 along with KOTOR 1 & 2 and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy lastly Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Then I picked up a PS2 Slim and started collecting for it as well. Picked up the entire SOCOM Series. Then Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 followed by Champions Heros Of Norrath & Return To Arms. Last but not least MGS 3: Subsistence!! Split the 007 Series between the two Consoles along with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six.
I was a PS2 user when the Original Xbox came out. I got mine in 2006 when they became cheap. bought like 15 games such as Halo, Splinter Cell, Half Life 2, Doom 3, Ninja Gaiden, Hitman Blood Money, Max Payne etc. I have collected a few more titles because of the Xbox One BC. And i also got plenty of free with GwG.
After the PS2 generation i got a Xbox 360. Later on did got a PS3 for those exclusives. Also recently collecting more Third Party titles. Most of the games are ranging from 5-20 euro. So still a good time to pick these up while the prices are good. I Must have bought over 50 Games by now. But was worth every penny. Because who know's how much they're going charge for them in the upcoming years.
Plus The X360 and PS3 can still be connected to a HDTV, and Online is still available for the majority of title's.
But will if i ever get to play them all??? Unlikely. But working on it slowly.

This makes me the most sad. When I was a kid I traded in about 50 Xbox games to Play and Trade. They gave me store credit and didn't warn me I only had a year to use it. Came back more than a year later and they claimed I wasn't even in the system anymore because it had been so long. For me as a kid that was an absolute tragedy. Ever since then I've warned people that Play and Trade robs children so end of the day maybe I cost them more than they made.

Why would anyone trade in games.
Even as a kid I was either gonna trade with friends and acquaintances or sell on platforms like ebay or on forums.
I would never have gone to a shop like gamestop when I know they’d just rip me off.

Very few games on the Xbox are 480i only, but with a Modded Console (which I assume pretty much every one has at this point) it's incredibly trivial to patch them to run in 480p. Which means functionally the entire Library is at minimum 480p, which is better than the other console where 480i is inevitable in some games, regardless of what cables you use.

The OG Xbox is more appealing than ever now. Games are cheap, plenty of local multiplayer games, good exclusives, and Insignia reviving Xbox Live for good makes the console a better investment than ever.
Depending on your collecting goals, many OG Xbox games have become difficult to find and fairly expensive

I absolutely loved justice league heroes back in the day lol. I actually played through it like 3 times on 3 different systems. I originally played it on PS2 and then while deployed I played it on PSP and I picked it up for my Xbox later. And if I remember correctly it will actually play on the Xbox 360. One of the few co-op games I played completely through with a friend as well
I've been collecting for OG Xbox games over the last year, still a few holy grails to go, but pretty darn close to my ideal collection.
The amount of quality Xbox exclusives is staggering. Deathrow, JSRF, PGR, Amped & RalliSport 2 to name a few.
I've never seen the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that Xbox exclusive game is a masterpiece. Even more fun than the developer's subsequent release, the X1 backwards compatible Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. The combat in Buffy was just flawless. Too bad the sequel Chaos Bleeds wasn't as good.
Dude, I just snagged one from my local game shop. Going from mainly collecting ps1 and snes, I can't believe how cheap xbox games are! I also snagged the hdmi adapter, and the games actually look pretty good

My brother's and I loved the xbox. We kept the system and games and I have it. It stopped working but I restored and it got it working again. Love it! I'm working on expanding the library!
The only thing I'd be concerned with the og Xbox is the hdd I'm sure this one has been replaced with an ssd with the original os installed onto it but if not that could become an issue as it ages another thing is the Xbox got more pc ports because it was basically a Dell laptop customized to run direct x and shoved into a console case

DirectX is an API. It can be ported to *anything*. Hardware doesn't need to be customised to run DIrect X. Direct X is customised to support hardware.
Also, the xbox is based on x86, but it also has custom hardware. Not a single piece of hardware in it is the same as off the sheld components, sans the storage.

Found my first OG Xbox around 2006-2007 at a Goodwill for $30. I bring it home, and to my surprise when I boot it up, the EvoX Dashboard. I later then found out later when I pulled the motherboard out to do something with the system (I can't remember what) it had a 1st Gen Xbox Enigmah Modchip soldered to the underside of the motherboard. Though being young and stupid at the time I removed it after installing a softmod, and I unfortunately no longer have that old chip.
But it is still my main Xbox, and now currently is TSOP Flashed, and with a (extremely overkill) 1TB HDD, and in a Ruby Clear XCM case. (Which I got the XCM case for a steal back in the day, now they seem to be worth a fortune)
I've also got 3 other Xboxes that i've TSOP flashed, one had a semi-corrupted TSOP that would only allow the system to boot once every 15-20 attempts from a cold boot, but after an ordeal I managed to get it flashed which completely fixed the boot issues.

I remember Black and the hype that surrounded it. Said to be the cutting edge of physics based simulation in the gaming industry at the time. It was more or less a $60 tech demo.

I grew up on the original Xbox. Marvel vs capcom 2 was one title me and my brothers used to always play. Spawn Armageddon is another title that come to mind.

still have my day one first in line OG xbox..still works as of now..i even removed the clock capacitor myself a year or 2 ago..Still have the box for it even though its in awful condition ...

Same here. I just bought 2 from an auction and had to re-sell them locally on FB Marketplace because both of the xbox consoles couldn't read discs. I didn't want to try to fix them up b/c I didn't know what I was doing so I sold them to someone who works on them.
Most need to be recapped, i got mine refurbished and it’s ready to go for another 20-30 years
So many of these titles are backwards compatible and even optimized for XB1 / Series X and that's awesome.
Justice League Heroes was one of the first games I beat, watched the ending then started a second playthrough immediately 👍
