Helpful vid. I just bought an 03 Sonoma extended cab with 91000km (around 56000 miles). Body is in good shape, got it from an older fellow who bought it when he retired and then kept driving his older vehicles. He took good care of it. Needs some front end work because there is play in one of the front wheels. Can’t wait to get the safety inspection done so I can hit the road.
Got a 03 Extended cab w/V6 Vortec and just passed 500k on the original engine. LOVE THIS TRUCK - so easy to work on w/o all the computer stuff on today's engines. Only 'major' repair was a few yrs ago replacing the fuel spider. WAY easy. Actually increased the mileage to about 26mpg from 17. Just now starting to show body rust (bought in Louisiana in 03 but been in IL, MI, FL, TX, OK and PA. Road salt kills! Actually taking it down to the frame and do a complete restoration. This truck and I have been to hell and back quite a few times and She's My Baby. We got too much in common. LOVE THE MODS you did - TOTAL sense!!!
I have a 2000 S10 short bed. 2.2 five speed with 206,000 miles. Original tranny, original engine, original clutch, original AC components, original exhaust, original thermostat, original blower motor, original front end components (grease it every oil change). Did have to replace the wiper motor, 1 fan clutch, 2 water pumps, front brakes, starter, alternator, tires, belt, hoses, plugs/wires and coils, and oil changes. That is about it, great lil truck, burns zero oil, extremely reliable just not very peppy.
Some people get lucky
Just recently got my 2nd gmc sonoma. It's 1999 with 30,000 miles. 2.2,5 speed manual, crank windows and is a blast to drive. Recently replaced all radiator and heater hoses, thermostate, replace a/c compressor, orifice tube, receiver dryer, all o rings, had rear and transmission gear oil changed, added air suspension to lift up rear 3 inches and flushed brake fluid. Got a crew cab ram but this little truck is more fund to drive around town.
I've changed my brakes, fluids and battery. 2001 Sonoma original owner. Oh the dash cracked as well
There is nobody better on a s10 then me. 38 yesrs of s10s here. Its all i do. I have 800 s10s and blazers in my back yard. Building them and parting them out.. come see me. In Georgia
Should I buy a 1996 sonoma manual?
@@joannamendoza3955 96 is a good year. Stay away from 95 and 98
Do you have a solid cab for an 89 s-10?
@temporalteleporter2874 yes I do
God damn....
I’ve had 2 of them, first a 2001 4wd had a lot of problems with the vacuum actuated 4 wheel drive and the transfer case, now I have a 2 wheel drive 02 sonoma I’ve owned for about 4 months and I love it no problems at all it drives like a brand new truck. I plan on keeping it till it rusts apart
I have an 2000 GMC Sonoma 285,000 . Motor replaced with 2.2 with 175.000 miles runs like a top. Love it. I am replacing secondary air pump and parts.
Thanks for this!
No problem
A lot of stuff you said is common with most vehicles from from the 90s and the 2000s and it make a difference who made it how you keep up on the maintenance should last forever
Exactly
I had one just like it at one time nice little truck
Yeah good little trucks
Have an '02 s 10 2.2L. lot of the problems you mentioned are things that've gone wrong on mine. AC unit doesn't work, getting it fixed soon. Fan clutch has broken on me, wiper motors stop working for no reason every once in a while. And the headlights, I just sanded them down and restored them and that did the trick.
Yep they do random things lol
Just bought mine, gonna keep watching your vids for tips, I gotta replace the cat
Remove the 2 exhaust clamps underneath and take a rubber mallet and remove the cat section and get some catalytic converter cleaner spray it all inside wash it out thoroughly and then heat dry it then reinstall
I hate changing the fuel pumps in these trucks but I found out and easy way to
do it .
I have an 04 sonoma sls crew cab 4.3 v6 4x4. I bought it from a junkyard as a salvage title. 200k on original motor (runs great!) I replaced the transmission and 99% of the suspension. Most of the issues I have match your truck. My transfercase just blew the other day 😂
i've got 2 03 s10'S a 4CYL 2WD and a 6CYL 4WD. Both have been faithful servants over the years with minor care. They are heads and shoulders better than my last Ranger. None of the interior issues that you refer to as trash, but then again my 2 live in the northeast and don't bake in the Florida sun
The automatic does have the first grease point too not the mini shaft ones though. And theres the upper and lower ball points too.
Excellent information
I love mine ❤
Take that bed liner off unless you want a rusted out bed!!
It's been on there since the conception of the truck and there's still zero rust in the back of it because drain ports were installed
Mine has 213,000 miles , still running as I bougth it.
16 years with me.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Model 98, 5 speed, xtra cabin.
I did buy it with 106 k miles.
I won't change it or sell it.
I have nearly the same red truck. Mine's an 02' Sonoma highrider ZR2 with the 4.3
1994 GMC SONOMA V6 RWD FIRST OWNER RUNS AND DRIVE I PUT A NEW BLOCK IN HER SHE AS 600MILES ,AC,HEAT,POWER EVERYTHING SAME TRUCK AND COLOR AS I FIX IT.AND YES SHE AS BALLS .GREAT WORK OR FAMILY TRUCK =)
E85 2001 sonoma extra cab. 110000 miles. 2.2 manual. Cracked dash. Have changed the brakes, fluids and battery. Tires as well. I have pulled 4k pounds slowly but made it 80 miles with a slight uphill incline. Oh, the fuel tank level is pretend in the best of times and the windshield wipers are haunted but work
carrier bearing goes out all the time on extended cabs (hanger bearing) Donut weight / balancer - I've seen them come loose and make a hell of a racket!
Howd you make that bungee setup on the rear molding, looks sick
I would love to have a third side door on my highrider that would be so convenient .
I have a 1997 GMC Sonoma with 243,000 miles on it. I have actually had very few of these problems. I'm wondering if it's because mine is a 4.3? Idk. My main issues have been the effing driveshaft joints and front wheel bearings. Every time I do the front brakes i go ahead and just replace the front bearings and races as well.
The lights are easy to clean with deet 40 outdoor bug spray and green pads and 2 cotton rages.
Do not use Deet it melts the headlights it is scientifically proven

Yes but the Aframe bushings wear out they dint have a grease nipple .
Everything he has listed is exactly wth is wrong with mine
Yeah man these things can be really problematic once they start having issues
how about the V6 engine automatic in these s10 ???
I appreciate the info. My Senior Father just bought a 02 from the original owner with 62k miles. I was just curious if there were any common problems. Is it a timing belt or chain? Just wondering if it had a belt I should worry about the age and change it. Just to keep the epic old guy going.
These are chain driven
@@IFixShet awesome. Now please tell me they don't have plastic guides and or tensioners.
By chance do you remember what fan you installed i want to get rid of my manual setup
It was a pretty basic electric fan from eBay it only costs like 40 bucks I've used it every single day for hours with no problem it's been over a year
I have one with a oil leak, replaced the rear main seal and it still has a oil leak between manual transmission and back engine block???
oil pan gasket maybe
been contemplating on buying a 2000 S-10 i’ve found for sale with 39k miles. Its selling from a dealership but if I can get them down to 10k i’m taking it
How much is the asking price? I just bought a 2003 low miles
$10k for a 2000 s10? They are hosing you
I just bought a super clean s10 w the 2.2l. ive had the vortec 4.3 before and im surprised at how warm it runs. Still keeping an eye on it, at first i thought the thermostat was out. How hot does yours run at cause mine is like 215
Not even close on my 2.2 it never breaks 160
@@IFixShet I put a 180 thermostat in it and now it's fine so I don't get it
Theres an easier way to do the starter, you come from the front with a long extension like 20" to get to the electrical connector bolts its a narrow shot but thats the easier way I've done the normal way and it really sucks and if you look in from the front side into the engine and can find that passage for the socket thats way easier.
How much Should I pay for a 1991 GMC sonoma in acceptable condition? This is about to be my first pick up and Im planning to drive it twice a week. Can somebody suggest a price pls ?
It's not that easy I need to know more about the truck. Any major dents how is the interior The other thing to factor in is it doesn't have an OBD2 port to communicate with the car if it starts having issues They didn't start installing those in vehicles until 1996 so if you start having engine issues you're going to be doing a lot of trouble shooting without the help of a computer.
Seems to me after viewing the video there are more issues with the 2.2 v 4.3
So what your saying is don’t buy a Chevy s10 😂
It's a 4cyl truck of course it's going to lack power
I mean bro I'm just giving my review telling people that suffers on power because these are things people need to know. As much as you think it's common sense a lot of people don't have common sense which is why we have to say things so that people understand
I have a 4.3 u should stand in front of it
@@deadbodybaby1 yawn 😴
@@IFixShet not you
@@IFixShetI have pulled 2 tons with it. A car hauler and a fiat. I made it 80 miles on a slight uphill incline and a pretty high 2 mile hill. They can do it
2200 engines suck
