Still trying to get my recording software sorted since I switched to a new pc. This is why the video is presented like a slideshow. Hopefully it still helps
thank you, genuinely could not figure out how to get this to run in linux for a server. set it up how you described, still didnt work. turns out i canceled the forge install and it only made it about half way causing the console to spew [internal exceptions] error messages
I keep on getting this exact error: Internal Exception io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: io.netty.handler.codec.EncoderException java.io.UTFDataFormatException: malformed input around byte 23. Sometimes the last number changes to others, and everyone gets the same error. It appears to be a server error. but the console doesnt drop any message, like this: [21:38:33] [Server thread/INFO]: lightokla[/] logged in with entity id 220 at (-13.5, 63.0, -69.5) [21:38:33] [Server thread/INFO]: lightokla joined the game [21:38:36] [Server thread/INFO]: lightokla lost connection: Disconnected [21:38:36] [Server thread/INFO]: lightokla left the game Any ideas?
This isn't the most specific java error so it's pretty hard to interpret. Do you happen to have any other pieces prior to this that might help paint the picture?
@@RealFabris Yeah ive seen theres a lot of trouble around this error in some forums due to his nature. I couldnt associate something to it exactly and the console log doesnt seems to be helpful. I think it is something related to the compatibility of some mods but i alredy removed the suggested ones and nothing.
1. opened up server properties and noticed query, rcon, server port numbers of 5 digits. Tried using these for server address in game to join. Didn't work. 2. Server-IP has no value in the server properties text file. Is that right?
@@NickFuller-t6t To my knowledge both of the ports that are not server-port in the properties file are automatically disabled in the config. So you should be able to ignore them. That being said, this video only encapsulates the file structure/pieces required to boot the server. You'll need to find a tutorial for port-forwarding if you haven't done that yet as that sounds like the issue here. Essentially just focus on getting the information correct for server-port Server IP is suggested to be left blank, it will take care of this value on launch every time. If I recall correctly (and assuming you're hosting this server off your own machine/network). You should be able to test if everything is working by going to the server tab for multiplayer and entering in localhost or locahost: as the server address. If either of those are working you can move on to testing the actual connection that others would use by putting your public ip in place of localhost so : The simplest way to get your public ip is just to search for what's my ip on google.

how do I put the server in the game (also how do I give my friends the server address so they can join?)
