You should have unlocked the doors as you reached the station. The train was only doing 8 or 9 miles an hour as it passed the platform, and from what I could see the passengers looked able-bodied enough to make the jump. Checked luggage may have been a problem, but you can't have everything.
Why have I just watched a full video of you driving my old commuter route?? Pretty accurate simulation, including the fuck ups, other than Paddington being empty at 19:30 on any day of the week....
Really enjoyed that Colonel. I used to live in Reading and traveled to/from Paddington frequently so thanks for the memories although I have NEVER known that train to be 10 minutes early! You deserved a win just for that feat!
you did a better job than most GWR train drivers do, alot of them cant make the journey from Totnes to Newton Abbott with getting it stuck on a slight slope and arriving 15 mins late.
Colonel once again you impress me with your quality failures. How do you slow down too much to start with and then still not brake earlier enough to stop all in about 30 seconds? Impressive
Hmm... only last week I joined one of these heading back to Zummerzet, the morning after a Hyde Park gig. We sat in a hot and stuffy carriage whilst the driver told us he was waiting for “technical” to fix one of the power cars. After 40 mins we had to decamp to another train 10 platforms away (in double quick time). We then joined the other people who were already catching that train. When we got to Reading we were told that the route had changed and it wasn’t going to our station any more.... much to many people’s annoyance. We had to get out in Bath and then make 2 more changes before getting home. Gods Wonderful Railway, has turned into Generally Woeful Railway.
I love TSW videos cropping up now and then, especially the Star Trek-esque announcements! I'm not from the UK but I've spent a lot of time there and it's so true about WHSmith.
Ah Mr. Gamgee, you probably haven't ventured out this far from the Shire yet! Enjoyed this a lot more then expected Colonel Failure! ;) Keep your entertainment coming!
Great Vid Colonel. Had me laughing as I have used GWR many times. But the Captain of the train made the short journey to Reading so much fun. Nice one mate :)
Platform 3 for the 19:30 service to Bristol Temple Meads Calling at Reading, Theale, Thatcham, Newbury, Kintbury, Hungerford, Bedwyn, Pewsey, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads. This train is formed of 8 coaches. 1st Class is at the rear of the train. A buffet service selling light refreshments is available abroad this train.
gamgie: would you like some breakfast? colonel: no thanks gamgie iv already eaten. gamgie: what about second breakfast? colonel: second breakfast you say?
Okay, so... is failing and living up to your name a success? And if it is, wouldn't that make you a failure? If you'd completed it successfully and failed to live up to your name, would that actually be a failure? And by that failure, would it make you a success? My head hurts. I'm going for a lie down.
Networkers had their carriages specifically designed for that seating layout, they are actually much wider than most trains, we've got the electric versions down where I live (well, used to, thanks Thameslink) and, being 5'4", I found them very good indeed for that layout, and the screaming from the BREL electrics at 75, the literal definition of heaven on rails.
Colonel Failure you’re wrong about the doors. They used to be horrific I’ll give you that but in the last 5 years upgrades to the pneumatic controls and a new mat design make them reliable. If they weren’t working in the last 5 years it’s because people like me when I was fixing them were too lazy to set up the open and close pressures. You’re welcome 😉
The 19:30 out of London Paddington would be a Weston-super-Mare train, calling at Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon, Chippenham, Bath Spa, Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare
So here's the thing about train brakes. They take a while to activate throughout the train. So, you know... "i'll make it at about the half mile mark" is not gonna get you licensed as a train driver any day soon.
Not true the HSTs brakes come on instantly. its just the weight of the train and the efficiency of the brakes that take the time to slow it. Braking from 125 to 70 in half a mile would have been possible if hed gone full service straight away.
Not only that, but EP brakes are also computer (or in older instances electro-mechanically) guided to brake at certain strengths to give a smooth braking curve. That means you'll sometimes even get worse brakes with EP, than with pure pneumatic, because you can't manually override the braking strength. I do believe that british trains have a fail safe there, that if you go full service, it actually switches to pure pneumatic and bypasses the EP system. But that again means that full service is slower to take, but brakes harder eventually. Still slow. I'm a train driver (not UK) and you really have to take a lot of factors into consideration when braking, not just distance. Could also be a slight gradient, which will significantly extend your braking distance, more than you'd expect.
Because of your vids, i bought this game, and i am enjoying it, but i cant help thinking that it would be far more fun if you were the guard on my trains giving constant commentary :)
LMAO I love it. Col when are you gonna realize that stopping a train is just as important as getting it up to speed. Slowing down take time so do it early and maybe, just maybe you will pass one of the scenarios LOL Keep the vids coming. Always love a good laugh
I really need to know who gave this video a thumbs down and why?! Its like searching for videos of tigers and saying pffft nah dont like them tigers, nothing like the frosties box :s whats not to like and what were they expecting. Most enjoyable witha few good laughs along the way
the XPT trains here in australia in the state new south wales that service queensland and victoria are based on these except a few modifications to sute australian conditions
My throttle does not seem to be working every time i put it on throttle 1 2 or 3 train does not move but 4 and max are working fine how do i get first 3 to work?
I been sitting in every train and nerd all the buttons and could not find a communication option so i guess this is a layer you do afterwards, if i understand correct :) a train should have a communication option though :S its not the biggest project to add something like that. Thank you for all your great videos you giving us!
You should have unlocked the doors as you reached the station. The train was only doing 8 or 9 miles an hour as it passed the platform, and from what I could see the passengers looked able-bodied enough to make the jump. Checked luggage may have been a problem, but you can't have everything.
Did occur to me.
U can see now why your job application at GWR failed..
Indian railway
@@milkandduckrailway323 yeah lmao
Managed to live up to your name at the last second. :-D
10:40
_"I don't know if there is an afterburner here"_
lol, priceless.
You would be the funniest airline captain ever.
The consequence of overshooting the landing might be a tad more disastrous though.
Mere details.
Wes Lown everyone would die laughing. In flames but laughing.
So close to actually succeeding for once at this game
Nice to find a youtuber who doesn't take it so seriously. Don't change it would be a shame. Subscribed.

In answer to your question it has 4500 horsepowers, at least it did when it was new.
Strong knowledge.
The new VP 185 engines that replaced the old Valenta engines are 5362 bhp at 1950rpm.
I will just hang my anorak up here with my bobble hat.
Really enjoyed that Colonel. I used to live in Reading and traveled to/from Paddington frequently so thanks for the memories although I have NEVER known that train to be 10 minutes early! You deserved a win just for that feat!
This is an absolutely great laugh! Wonderful commentary! I must stick around!
you did a better job than most GWR train drivers do, alot of them cant make the journey from Totnes to Newton Abbott with getting it stuck on a slight slope and arriving 15 mins late.
Who els is in Britain and rides these trains all the time
“What have we got on the menu tonight mr.ganji?” “POTATOES!” That line got me
Colonel once again you impress me with your quality failures. How do you slow down too much to start with and then still not brake earlier enough to stop all in about 30 seconds? Impressive
In real life the HST brakes are very aggressive that’s why he didn’t slow down till he was too late I’m assuming
Been on this line many times. Video brought back many happy memories. Thank you for a good video.
4:12 " ok good, driver's buzzer"
*ominous brerererereep sounds*
*"nice..."*
Oh dearie dear. You blew it.

It would be nice to see Deltics an old UK diesels in the game,, but wow would love to drive trains for real.
I love TSW videos cropping up now and then, especially the Star Trek-esque announcements!
I'm not from the UK but I've spent a lot of time there and it's so true about WHSmith.
Could not agree more about WHSmith!
less about sticky tables and more about sticky floors as WH Smiths
And cans. Why are their drink cans always sticky? Is it to distract you from the fact you just paid double the going rate?
Btw if WH Smith would like to sponsor this channel my door is always open.
You'll get a sticky keyboard and desk!
WH Smith, if you're watching, comment above applies here, too!
They're actually not that bad here in India in terms of pricing. Except the ones on light rail stations are a bloody rip off
Ah Mr. Gamgee, you probably haven't ventured out this far from the Shire yet!
Enjoyed this a lot more then expected Colonel Failure! ;)

6:32 best train announcement I've ever heard
I suggest everyone go back to when he did the NE Regional. The end was priceless.
Great Vid Colonel. Had me laughing as I have used GWR many times. But the Captain of the train made the short journey to Reading so much fun. Nice one mate :)
Thinking about buying this game - so glad I found this vid, hilarious!
Hilarious! I’ve never had such a fun time riding a train before! You, Sir, are a great entertainer! I’ll stick around and check your other videos. :)

Despite the failure I really enjoy watching these videos Colonel :) Love the commentary.
The lack of a bulldoze button on the cabin is a major hindrance in this day and age
Agreed. Now how about a quick trip from Wolverhampton to Dortmund...
Okay, so... is failing and living up to your name a success? And if it is, wouldn't that make you a failure?

Get out of here with your "logic". We don't want your kind here.
Sorry Colonel, sir. I blame it on the heat.
FINALLY some train sim! 😍 Also, 2+3 seating in carriges that narrow is criminal.
If you're 6' or taller you can't sit in them straight either.
Heh, I fix/work on the hst’s
Then this should be considered a master class. In right about the doors.
Colonel Failure you’re wrong about the doors. They used to be horrific I’ll give you that but in the last 5 years upgrades to the pneumatic controls and a new mat design make them reliable.

Okay, you got me. I may not have taken an HST lately. You're a credit to your trade Jaff.
Colonel Failure you won’t have much of a choice soon - IET’s only if you travel between London and Bristol
hahahahah You Sir are really awesome :D I like your gameplay and especially the Communication with the passengers hahahah hugs from Spain
Thanks :)
The 19:30 out of London Paddington would be a Weston-super-Mare train, calling at Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon, Chippenham, Bath Spa, Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare
Didcot! Of course.
Didcot is always forgotten
Oh Colonel, you were doing so well but Failure happened again. Have a go in the class 66, that will make for some excellent CF footage.
Classic Colonel at the end.
Are they standing around checking for UFOs? The Colonel's ongoing Depraved-Jurassic-Trainsim-Fever game play series.
Excellent one Colnel. By the way the official speed record for a 125 is around 148mph. but that was set in the 70's when they were brand new
Jon Wisbey they may be able to do even more than that now with the new MTU engines in them
So here's the thing about train brakes. They take a while to activate throughout the train. So, you know... "i'll make it at about the half mile mark" is not gonna get you licensed as a train driver any day soon.

EP brakes are still pneumatic. Air still has to move from A to B and fill the brake cylinders.
Scy the braking is still instant even with an air brake system.
I can confirm brake applications on a hst really are not instant. Certainly not in comparison to other trains
Not only that, but EP brakes are also computer (or in older instances electro-mechanically) guided to brake at certain strengths to give a smooth braking curve. That means you'll sometimes even get worse brakes with EP, than with pure pneumatic, because you can't manually override the braking strength.

Made me laugh so much 😂
The end was amazing, still laughing.
5:40. Best train announcement
another fun filled episode from the colonel ;-)
Palm and face in perfect unison.
Lmao. Those satirical touches and announcements. WHSmiths lol.
the XPT trains here in australia in the state new south wales that service queensland and victoria are based on these except a few modifications to sute australian conditions
Take these all the way to Plymouth. Sometimes I even get a seat.
This is gold. Subscribed
Obliged!
I literally laughed out loud (for quite some time) at "POTATOES."
Jacks loves this game
Please do more of these TWS videos, really funny
It is fun to watch colonel success but the name of the Chanel is lingering in the back of my mind
I'm rather concerned about the fact that your head seems to spin round through 360 degrees twice. Was green projectile vomit involved?
Only when I've been at the sambuca.
very cool video great commentary through out you have just picked up another subscriber keep up the good work
Much obliged!
My throttle does not seem to be working every time i put it on throttle 1 2 or 3 train does not move but 4 and max are working fine how do i get first 3 to work?
NUTS !!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That old school star trek bridge announcement whistle lol :D
since ive swapped to keyboard controls i always overshoot the stations slightly, also you have beaten my personal record of about 30 mins
21:25 But i don't know another word for Balls.
I got it! Nutz!
What it they added the new York subway or the Chicago rails
Exactly what happened to me. But I can't seem to replay that scenario. :(
hi im planning on buying the game but idk which bundle to buy from Steam...
Can you drive from Paddington to oxford? It seems like Reading is the furthest you can drive?
SPAD, you bad man colonel lol.
Yes, I looked it up. Apparently that's a no-no. Damn busy-bodies.
When at 125, why not just put the throttle in notch 3/4?
Brilliant I do like your style
Thanks :)
Great trip!
Hahaha class made us giggle nuts lol
"Excellent" Geography knowledge!
Yeah, I reckon so too.
WOOHOO MORE TRAINS!!!!
Just like my first driving test
Does this game have a creative mode for map making and stuff?
The developers have been saying they're working on one for quite a while. However, they've been pretty busy building more routes they can charge for.
Can u get world for Xbox 360?
Sadly no
london stations are more packed than this or am i wrong god i need to go to london and check it out
lmfao, great commentary Colonel
Whats a disapointing ham sandwich? Thats something i could go for
This is really good..
lol... do you do the passenger communications in post?
I do them while recording then edit the audio in post.
I been sitting in every train and nerd all the buttons and could not find a communication option so i guess this is a layer you do afterwards, if i understand correct :) a train should have a communication option though :S its not the biggest project to add something like that. Thank you for all your great videos you giving us!
How do you release the passenger doors?
Tab.
Colonel Failure What's the tab?
Do the virgin trains east coast one from london kings x to newcastle please
how do you take photos one the ps4
Not my area of expertise unfortunately.
Hold down the share button and select save screenshot.
So close yet...nope. Failure!!! Hahaha
I have done that so many times it anoying especially on that line and train. the breaks on that train ain't the best but oh well.
Trust me, You are the best :)
Awesm video
brilliant loved it
You'd be better off leaving the throttle around 3/4 to maintain speed, so you can nanny less between max and idle. Not everything has to be binary =D
I'm a full commitment driver.
He likes faffing about...
how to get this game on pc??
It's available on Steam.
@@colonelfailure can i download for free or i have to pay for this??
How unforgiving this game is!!!
external view there are two sunsets lol
11:30 Ealing Broadway?
HST 125 can do 143mph but it service is 125mph
Every time
Hey Colonel, do you think you would do better pulling a train with a Bulldozer?
I suspect results will be mixed.
Con: Super Slow
Pro: You get a freaking bulldozer!
they would be if you used a cement mixer.
cement mixer? what?
the results would be mixed if you used a cement mixer. Its a pun.
The hell makes you think THAT is the Intercity 125?
