    • @maplezyrup
      @maplezyrup 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      jones81381 Jeremy has talked about how Awesometacular movies have a moment where you're sitting in the theater and you just realize "Holy shit, this movie is AMAZING," and Ant Man probably just never had that, if I had to guess. Though he clearly still enjoyed it.

    • @user-hardbrain
      @user-hardbrain 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      jones81381 yeah the first 15 minuites are exposition heavy in which people having short attention span would find boring.

    • @jones81381
      @jones81381 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      J.J. L. I haven't seen it yet, and I don't mind exposition, but seeing as the first 15 minutes the only negative thing Jeremy really had to say about it, I'm guessing that's why it didn't get Awesometacular.

    • @user-hardbrain
      @user-hardbrain 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I already saw it 2 days ago. Most people want to see a Marvel movie for the action. this one doesn't have heavy action on its first 15/30 minuites so that's a heads-up for those people who haven't seen it yet.

    Marvel took Iron Man, a relatively unknown hero and turned him into one of the best known superheroes, they made a risk by throwing many heroes into one movie and actually pulled that off without it feeling forced, they took a comic book that no one read and turned it into one of the most popular movies of the year. And now they managed to make a good Ant-man movie even though no one believed in it. It's official, Marvel is pretty much legally printing money at this point.

    • @MachineFuckingHate
      @MachineFuckingHate 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Evelina999 Iron Man was an a-list known character since the late 70's. He was not on par with such characters like Spider-Man or X-Men in terms of popularity, but he had huge following and fanbase. Iron Man wouldn't got made if he was " relatively unknown". Relatively unknown characters don't have their own comic book series that goes for almost four decades. Marvel only uncovered what already have been established.

    • @Evelina_412
      @Evelina_412 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      SepticGod He had that popularity among people who read comic books, that's a small portion of Americans. In the rest of the world very few people knew who he was.

    • @1HardCoreGaming1
      @1HardCoreGaming1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Evelina999 Also the fact that Iron Man, in his long while in comics, was protrayed as an alchoholic and damaged man, depressed and sad, etc. It was great to see Downey liven it up.

    • @MachineFuckingHate
      @MachineFuckingHate 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ScortchAlcatraz that was the best part of the Iron Man comics. The fact that he was so grounded in terms of personality and why he's so reletable. And that's why he became my number one comic book character in a mainstream comics since I was a kid. If Tony Stark was written from the beginning like in the movies, snarky, cocky, narcissistic, I wouldn't even care to pick up any comics with him. Sorry to break it for ya', but comic book Stark is a better written and fleshed out character than his movie iteration.

    • @1HardCoreGaming1
      @1HardCoreGaming1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SepticGod
      I'm not saying the movie iteration is better at all, I much prefer the comic version, but it was still an interesting turn.

    I've never been so surprisingly impressed before. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect, but opening credits with mariachi music was certainly not expected. The movie did such a good job being small (No Pun Intended) after Age of Ultron. The plot was so solid and actually creative. Scott Lang is probably the most relatable character so far which was so nice. I loved all the character building. Hank Pym and Hope Pym even had depth despite not being the main characters. Also, they admitted that The Avengers exist and that they could just call them!!! That was so satisfying since most solo movies suffer from that. I cannot express how pleasing it was.

    Anyone noticed when Scott Lang first puts on the Ant Man suit and had no idea what the suit was, there 2 buttons. One on his left hand and the other one on his right hand...When he clicked the left button nothing happened but when he clicked the right, he shrinks....Could it be that the left button is the switch for Giant Man? What if that Giant Man button was left open for another movie like Civil War?

    • @phillip7082

    • @Wired4Life2
      @Wired4Life2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Gabriel Gonzalez Actually, I'm on neither side. I'm on the side of good cinema and frankly, a good portion of the MCU isn't good cinema, but $100 million dollar setups for the next film. But hell, at least they have a system going for them. Everyone else non-Dark Knight trilogy is falling all over themselves trying to find success in ways other than making good films first and foremost. And, much to our misfortune, these trends of popular things making mediocre works of art are bringing the medium down.
      Just to be clear, I do think the first Iron Man, Gotg, Ant-Man, and the two Captain America films are entertainment with a decent amount of brains behind them.
      When we have a popular, mainstream culture that would rather applaud a trailer than a Birdman, a Whiplash, a Grand Budapest Hotel (just to name a few), we've got some major obstacles to overcome. The only organic way to overcome bad trends is to wait it out until we get tired of it, which is already happening. Age of Ultron, as just one example, only came out a little less than three months ago, and I'm amazed at how little people are talking about it now.

    • @arreca09
      @arreca09 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      BlueFox94 I loved Age of Ultron , I'm not gettin tired of the marvel movies just like jeremy , Im 20 years old , and Im going to love the Marvel movies for years to come , and when infinity wars comes out , im going to be there with my Marvel t-shirt and a big smile on my face , I don't think a movie is mediocre just because it has humor on it ,I don't pay attention to this elite people ,hating on the popular and then crying alone in the bed, DC is taking their movies too serious , but instead of making a the Killing joke , Dark knight returns or another good story into a movie , they try to copy Marvel but without the humor , they are not trying to break the boundaries and make a piece of art , that argument is bullshit and you know it ,they only want to make money , I mean look at green lantern.Nolan its not going to save them anymore and his movies were never part of the DCU.The DCU started with Man of steel and I don't even want to talk about that movie , aaghhh!

    • @Wired4Life2
      @Wired4Life2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Gabriel Gonzalez I'm 20 years old as well and I get that studios want to make money. If you want to make a business with no intention of making money, your priorities are misguided. That's Business 101, right there and I understand.
      But, as CinemaSins Jeremy once said, "you can be a business without being a whore." And in the brothel that is Hollywood, Marvel is one of the main proprietors.
      One thing I keep telling comic book fans who seem so blind to the apparent faults that these films can and do have is this: the medium of the comic book is unique in its beauty and in its potential faults (one being the consistent pandering to entertainment as opposed to making timeless singular stories - the presence of multiple, perhaps even contradictory and reimagined, storylines for characters being the evidence of that). But once you make the move to Cinema, your rules must change. You're not here to fortify a universe, but to make a gripping, stand-alone work of art. You're combining the best of all other past arts, no longer just one. Worry about building your universe after making great films. That's what the first Iron Man, Gotg, Ant-Man, and to an extent the two Captain America films have succeeded at doing.
      The lack of originality and risk in Hollywood has reached their biggest incarnation in the MCU and it's their influence on how the rest of the industry makes new stuff that's the most damaging.
      I ain't elite at all. You don't have to be elite to recognize when a media trend is so willing to eschew quality and logic in near-complete favor of pandering to audiences. I wouldn't say that if over half of the MCU films were great films, but most aren't. There has to be a balance between quality and audience desire (the latter being more unpredictable) and this current imbalance is going to be the bane of the industry for the next decade or so to come.

      All Marvel movies are practically the same. "Oh boy. Look! This guy is special! He cracks one liners and makes families laugh everywhere in a theater near them." Marvel has become no better than the rest of Hollywood, they're gonna keep milking the comics and never actually have a conclusion unless we as an audience brighten up and realize we deserve quality movies. Personally I'm incredibly excited for suicide squad since it's actually something new and intriguing. Batman v Superman looks good too, but not as good as suicide squad

      NeonTime Its so easy to defeat these DC Fanboys who are so jealous , it oozes out of their pours. . . First of all, if it wasnt for movies like Iron Man or Ant-Man, there would be NO Batman v Superman or Suicide Squad. You can worship Marvel Studios and Avengers for WB to invest 250 million into those two movies. Second of all, DC is now away with Nolan universe and COPYING Marvel Universe. Batman v Superman looks EXACTLY like a Marvel movie with a darker tone, yet these DC fanboys claim that they are SOOO different. And finally, my last point is DC produced Man of Steel, Green Lantern, Catwoman, Batman & Robin, The Dark Knight Rises - what makes you guys think that the DC films will improve ? Because of Snyder ?? I saw the same DC Fanboys go wild when Man of Steel trailer hit the web, then they turned on it saying that was not a real superman movie. Now, they are jumping on the bandwagon of Batman v Superman. Come on.... DC Fanboys seem to just be bandwagon fans who wish their DC characters got proper treatment on the big screen, instead they are just imitating Marvel's blueprint.

    I loved how they used the size changing changing for some pretty cool action sequences. Using him switching between small/large mid fight was so fun to watch, but they still kind of joke about how silly it seems (with the train scene we seen), but also the ping pong paddle scene which was hilarious.
    Jeremy mentioned it in the video, but it was really refreshing seeing it on a small scale (pun intended), if you think about it, the only thing that really gets destroyed is the building (and that is destroyed in a creative way) and then the kid's bedroom.
    I love how this film was released the same year as Age of Ultron, so we can appreciate both films because of how different they are.

      While I do agree the origin was rushed, he was definitely a really cool villain. He was menacing but humorous, scary but sarcastic, and creepy but cool. He was enjoyable to watch as he was frightening to watch. Loki was decent in the Thor films but in The Avengers he wasn't even a good character. His intentions made no sense, he did nothing during the entire battle, he killed a character that no one cared about and he was easily beaten by one member of the team. Loki in The Avengers was a fucking joke.

    • @XVSting
      @XVSting 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ***** Fair enough. To me, Ultron wasn't remotely menacing. Through the whole film he was a lame smart ass robot with zero backstory and motivation. Not to mention how they changed the character to suit the younger audience. Completely different from trailers and what they promised us.

    I have to say the same. I went on the odd chance without much thought and actually found myself highly rating this film. was far far better than I expected. I'd definitely see it again and look forward to how they can take ant man further in the future marvel releases. Quality performance by Rudd!

    Just saw this today and it was SUPER AWESOME!! :D A little slow during some parts but for the most part I thought the action was great, the comedy was also enjoyable without being too forced or overwhelming, and the character interactions felt natural :) Great job Marvel, you have yet to disappoint! :D

    It's very good but not that great than Avengers 2 however my only problem with the MCU is the fact that they make most of their villains like punching bag weaklings
    I mean granted there's still some strong and memorable ones (Kingpin, Ultron, Iron Monger and Abomination especially Loki from the Thor films) but sadly the others such as Ronan, Whiplash and especially Malekith are weak, undeveloped, unmemorable and watered down in perspective.
    Hell...people can bitch on the villains from Fox, Sony and DC/WB all they fucking want...but at least their motives were developed and they made sense.
    Although I'm a fan of the MCU, I'm not gonna sit back there like a blind biased fanboy and say ''OMG IT'S SOOO PURRRFECT!!!!'' because it certainly isn't, I love it but that dosen't mean I have to like everything in it unlike some fans do because I do have some problems with it and the Studio in general.

      I liked this film a lot. It was fun, witty, smart, and explosive all spearheaded by the writing of the great Edgar Wright and the charming performance of Paul Rudd. I went into this film with low expectations (due to my unfamiliarity with the character/concept), and it came out better than I expected. In my opinion, I think it's a better film than Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and The Incredible Hulk at the least, it's median would be around the quality of the first Thor and Captain America films (if not a little better), and at most better than Guardians of the Galaxy (at most I said; that's not a definite).
      As for formidable villains, I would add Red Skull and Alexander Pierce to that list.
      For this movie's villain, I knew beforehand this wasn't going to be some formidable for-the-ages villain, but I liked what was presented to us. Corey Stoll brings us back to the age of villains that we thought had either died out or never existed. He's not an emotionally complex villain (i.e. Magneto, Doc Ock, etc.), nor a gripping, fearsome villain (i.e. Joker, Ultron), but he's not a "watered-down" Saturday-morning cartoon villain either. What I like is that he isn't self-aware that he's evil nor that he thinks he's doing the right thing, but he's just nefarious in his own way that makes him a delight to watch on screen. And I also love it how he's just so casual about using lambs as test-subjects and just wiping the floor of the remains of the guy he vaporized with the paper towel he just washed his hands with. And the fights with Cross as Yellowjacket were pretty stylish and imaginative as well.

    Ant Man would make a great open world game, am I the only one here who thinks that? I mean, since you're a thief, you can accept quests from people and then wear your suit to help with the quest. you can control ants, unlock different characters, the game would most likely be stealth, and you can strategically use ants for transportation and stuff. Someone do this already!

      After The Avengers there was Iron Man 3, which wasn't very good, and Thor 2 which was pretty bad.
      But 2014 had 2 of the best Disney Marvel movies which were The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Great year for them.
      Then this year they had the 'meh and messy' Age of Ultron and the funny but 'generic' Ant-Man.
      If the pattern follows then 2016 will be one heck of a year for Disney Marvel with Civil War and Dr. Strange.
      I see it more as a roller coaster...

      Luis Gonzalez As a comic fan it's consistent to me. I like all the movies with the only one I wasn't big on was Iron Man 3 with occasional gems like Iron Man 1, Cap 2 and GOTG thrown in.

    • @odogwu7
      @odogwu7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Luis Gonzalez lol, I thought I was the only one that noticed the pattern. For Marvel...
      2008- Great
      2010-crap
      2011-meh to good.
      2012-Amazingly great.
      2013-incredibly meh.
      2014-nothing short of greatness.
      2015-at least good.
      2016-should be great
      If I was Marvel I'd only release movies on even years, months, and days/date.

    3 Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/ Yellowjacket
    2 Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne
    And finally the best actor in the movie...
    1 Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/ Ant-Man
    My rating for this movie is 8.5/10

I really enjoyed it also it was just the right length too, not like some of these movies that your like dang when is this going to end?🐢

    Just saw it, and it was really good. I mean, I still think the movie should've been about Hank Pym and Janet Van-Dyne, as apposed to reducing Hank Pym to an elderly mentor figure and Janet Van-Dyne as a damn cameo. But I had a lot of fun with this movie. Nowhere near as epic as "Avengers:Age of Ultron", but a still a fun addition to the MCU.

    1. Captain American - The Winter Soldier

    3. Ant-Man
    I think people are getting sick of so many super-heroes movies, and it is the reason they "didn't like" Age of Ultron that much. Lots of criticism against AOU. What is really weird, because the movie is VERY good.
