Seeing your crockpot, well at least that’s what we call them in the states. I love cooking with those things. Im a single Dad, after a long hard day, I pickup my son from school, and being able to come home to a cooked meal, that smells incredible, it’s amazing.
Good luck on the boat, definitely looks like a good bit of work, but those are the projects I appreciate the most. The feeling you get when you achieve your goal, it’s truly priceless. Plus the payoff, and being able to enjoy your work. Ignore the nay sayers, pay more attention to the ppl rooting you on.

Big changes. The water in the old tanks looked surprisingly clean. The bilge under the engine was amazing. The boat is going to float 10 cm higher after removing all the crud. When I pulled the old engine from my former wooden cruiser there was about 10-15 cm thick congealed grease/oil under where the engine was. It was a big, messy, job to get rid of it all.
Your cockpit drain plumbing reminds me of the raw water intake plumbing on my old boat. I counted 17 fittings on one thru-hull. A plumbers nightmare.
    Keep up the good work.

I think that was oil dry. The sandy clay was probably someone's idea to deal with leaky engine. In other words that engine was coming out even if it had been running. 😉

I am very jealous of what will eventually be the work shop in the engine room. That would be great to have. I love visiting the bins at my marina and have found many treasures there although my wife often feels shame when I do. It will be nice to get rid of all the unnecessary through hulls. I have a little catamaran and after my last haul out went to none in the port hull and would like to go from 3 to 1 in the starboard hull next time she comes out of the water. Keep up the good work despite the hot days.

      Hello Mike!
That's one of the things we love the most about this boat... The space in the engine room!
We are never ashamed of looking through the bins. Many people here do it and it's surprising what some people throw away...
This boat has so many through hulls it's unbelievable 🤦🏻‍♀️ We are getting rid of so many of them... So we can totally understand why you are trying to reduce the number of through hulls as well.

After 45+ years of marriage, I realize that my wife does not agree with my “dumpster diving, trash picking or buying used merchandise at garage sales/auctions”. We obviously have different backgrounds and I did not think to resolve this before our marriage.

John, what I see of it you are no different to anyone else.
Us blokes are always seeking "treasures" that our wives perceive
as junk, we see it as being useful one day, and it usually is,
wereas women see it as more clutter to mess up the showpiece home.
Nothing to resolve, just a normal part of life.

I wonder how many people can appreciate what it's like to live in a small space like a boat while you are dismantling it and removing half of it with no running water, no cooker and no toilet ? The dust, debris and heat would be overwhelming for most people and the lack of a floor and places to sit or just put things down creates so many issues, especially long term !
This is a huge task that you are undertaking and it takes a lot to be able to deal with all the issues you are facing and stay positive ! The amount of work to be done is too much for most people but clearly not for you guys and from what I've seen so far you are going to succeed !
I like how you are tackling this project but I don't envy you !

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Ian!
We couldn't agree more... It looks funny when you watch the videos but it is definitely hard. We are probably managing alright because we come from a very small boat compare to this one and just the feeling of having more space even if it's messier has been a great improvement for us.
Hopefully you are right and we manage to succeed getting this project done. We are just at the start but we believe there's nothing that can't be fixed... Even if it takes longer than expected 😅

Kudos to you two, sailors living "Beyond the Buckle"! Being amongst those who practice dumpster diving , my brothers and I have termed it so because if your not in beyond your belt buckle you're just digging, not diving in the dumpster! Just pulled three aluminum framed slider windows out of the dumpster today that will make it into a greenhouse I will be building at a property we close on tomorrow. I've just come across your channel in my feed and it has fast become one of my favorites, now I'll need to binge through past episodes to get more of the background on you two adventurers. Hang in there, not too long beyond the buckle, and keep pushing forward in spite of any nay sayers who never leave their couch.
