Changing the radiators on my son's CRF250 for heavy duty radiators

- My son's HONDA CRF250 was getting a little hot so we decided to put a couple new higher capacity radiators on it and that has made it run a lot cooler now, so cool cucumbers to that ;-)

I use to have a YZ450F always had problems with the radiator.. Looks like you got it straighten out mate good job..
+Shiny Knife Oh yes a 450 thumper mate sweet, so what was the prob you had with the radiator overheating was it? And yes this upgrade sure did solve any overheating probs he was having thank goodness.
Yep it would over heat in the tight and twisty trails in the woods.. On a track or on some open fire roads it wouldn't.. But most of my riding was in the woods.. I got rid of it and bought a 660 Raptor never had one problem with the cooling system on it..
Shiny Knife Ok yeah well that was my sons issues same as yours you had with the YZ fine out in the open where there is lots of air and speed but in the bush/woods is when it overheated. 660 Raptor nice machine indeed mate, would like a 4 wheeler myself but have not the room unless I build another shed.. just might do that! have a good weekend mate!

My dad was a better man than me though :) I reckon its hard to understand us because of our slang way of speaking we butcher the English language lol .. yep Father and son team effort there!!
My father was also a nicer father than my brother for his sons! But you're almost there and everything takes time and practice, so don't give up!

I wonder how much of the improvement is
merely the issue of replacing old clogged up
radiators with clean, new ones... shrugs....
New to new would give us the true story, on whether
'racing' etc radiators or racing hoses ( I see they sell those
too) are the key to better cooling. Obviously this fixed
the issue here, but it would be nice to know what he actual
issue was; old clogged radiator, or lower capacity, or both lol..

since the capacity of the cooling fluid is higher after the change, will it not affect the waterpump since it has to work more ?
good job... my CRFs getting to hot too... and the new Rally more than the other and much faster
PhuketBungalow Info G'day mate, no she is still going really well had no problem with the water pump and solved the over heating issues all together, if your having the same problem give this a go I'll bet it solves the problem. Cheers mate

My crf250r 2011 is having the same problem it over heats even going at a good pase but I just ordered some radiators like theses hopfully it fixs my problem
Hi mate, I reckon it will solve your overheating problem, fixed this CR's overheating issue. Let me know how it goes mate if you wouldn't mind I'm interested to know just out of curiosity.
+Roodog Gonebush yea sweet as I'm mid way through fully rebuilding my 011 crf250r and I've found the head gasket had a slite leaking so I think that may have been partly the reason but I'll get back to u when I get it up and running agaib

That bike is sold mate, my son has a 450 now and has just put the after market larger radiator tanks on that, they are really good high quality 👍

Hello Jake well I don't know the brand of them my son brought them... I just asked him and he said they didn't have a brand on them and said they was Chinese made so just check ebay and set your search to worldwide, that should give you some results mate. Good luck 👍

That's air cooled, I believe, so there is not
internal cooling passages to accommodate
any liquid cooling.

Roodog Gonebush Looks like there's metal pieces in the engine from the piston... He's gonna take a lil more time with it and try to save it but the cost of fixing it may not pan out... really sucks, not looking good. :-(
+Jody Clary Hmm well ok.. why not just look for a second hand motor for it or do as I done with my sons old china pit bike.. it was a 110 and he my son broke the engine casing so I got him a brand new 125 motor for 200 bucks off ebay that was in Aus probably even cheaper straight from good old china dunno.. worth a look though maybe mate depends what the rest of the bike is like really aye..
+Roodog Gonebush yeah really sucks man. The mechanic just being very cool he suggested that I look up the motor and buy it off of eBay. but still he can't offer any brakes on labor... Said if he was set up at his house he could do it for a couple hundred bucks replacing motor and everything. I'm going to end up with a four wheeler if I have to cut the motor out of that one and bolt a lawn mower motor to it! I will ride! LOL
Jody Clary Ahhh shucks man, lawn mower motor will solve the problem mate :) .. when I was a lad my dad got me a home made billy cart that had a 2 stroke lawn mower motor in it .. it looked like a ww2 army jeep but it was yellow and a lot smaller .. oh man the fun and joy me and my mates had in that thing holy cow, but geez it was noisy must of drove the neighbors mad lol
