You might be idling too high! The header does get redhot but when you’re bright red and seeing sparkles that’s wayyyy hot!! If your coolant level is ok and the choke is off.. it’s possible your idling rpm is tooo high and the flathead screw on the side of the carb counter clockwise will lower… if you have a newer bike with EFI (electronic fuel injection) then I’d ask your local shop. You can also buy a stick on themometer designed to stick on the side of the engine to see if the engine itself is overheating
It’s possible even with the my stock pipes they can turn red.. it shouldn’t be super super red red from idle maybe if you rode for awhile it might…. When the bike is cool say before to kick it over for the day open the radiator and see what the level is… proper height is right to the collar. it would look like about a half inch above the little internal fins

Once the radiator gets hot if any spills, drips or residual coolant splashed on the outside of the radiator if will smoke until burned up.. Give the radiator a good rinse and it will clear up 👍

For some reason im having an issue my header gets red hot at idle when kicked over, what could that indicate?

Ive heard this could be from your bike running too lean.
luckily it's a 2004 CRF lol, would it be better to lower the flathead screw idle ?

How much coolant did it take?
I put in an even 1 Quart. Service manual calls for 0.98 Qts
