Fun as hell! I remember the old guys talking about meat lining back in the 60's. Maybe I'll be one of those old guys talking about meatlining in my sixties. If I don't hurry, it will be in my 70's!
So goofy but yes so affective. I’m sore after cranking these setups. Nobody I know has spent as much time on the water as Boots. Crazy how much he knows about the southern Puget Sound
Ok watched through this again. We need some tech specs. His setup is not how my dad described their setups. I really want to put mine in the water but am a little lost. What kind of main line on the rods? How much weight? Did he have a snubber on? Did he clip the weight on after putting down the leader? How much weight? Does he ever use a flasher on those rods? What kind of leader setup is he running? Did you use the herring on one of the rods?
So awesome to see it in action! I have one of my grandpas meat lines it and my dads rigs both use the largest pflueger sal trout with downrigger cables. My grandpa has the handles moves out with a large brass extension to give more leverage. The rods both use a couple of pulleys as the guides. I have never used it though. Need one of those beefy rod holders. Can you ask Boots where he got those rod holders. Seen some other ones like that around the point. Thanks for another great video.
How cool is that. Boots made these rod holders 20-3O years ago. They are in rough shape but they still work. I think the only option these days is to make them. Next time I’m out with him I will do a close up of the rod holders.
There does not appear to be any advantage over a downrigger with this set up. It is still a large amount of lead on a line to bring it down deep, only you don't have the release to disconnect it when the fish strikes. You also lose the ability to run really heavy weights since you have to hand crank it back up.

That’s epic! I always wondered what them goofy rods were. Goofy but affective! A guy could learn a lot hanging with Ol’ boots for awhile! Nice vid!

It's been really good out there this year! Sucks it's been closed so much.
Ya I wish we had more days.

Next time out I will ask Boots to go through the whole setup. Should be soon
Real nice fish! Cool job on the big lead setup
Nice job! Fun watching your channel. The meatline looks like a ton of fun to master. Keep it coming!
Going out tomorrow to hopefully film another meatline video. Thanks Pete
that facility and boat elevator are super rad. we don't get cool shit like that up on the coast of Canada
There isn't anything cool like that on the Washington and Oregon coast either.. just Puget sound and san Juans
Wow teach me the ways boots! I’ve had decent lick out there but cant get over the 12lb mark. Great video!
Thanks. I’m still not sure how he does it and I’m on his boat a bunch. I can tell you his gear is always touching or close to the bottom.

Would like to see how those pulleys are mounted on the rods. Been trying to rebuild a meatline and that part is the big hangup at the moment.
Next time I film a episode with boots I will do a close up
What happened to "saw"?
Good plugging video.
What speed?
Not sure what speed but fast. Faster than I would troll with flashers

I see you guys have custom rods made for this, but what sort of rods did they use back in the day to meatline?
The rods boots has are from back in the day. They are full fiberglass and very old
@@NorthwestCatch Super cool! Not my style of fishing but I always love to see old fishing methods kept alive
Looking for 2 rod holders for my meatlines. Got any for sale?
I wish. The old timer around Tacoma stopped making them.
What make, model, length is that boat?
