I have not bought a Washington State fishing and crabbing license in over 10 years. I sold my 21' Northriver and bought a 36' EagleCraft and strictly fish Alaska and BC waters. I refuse to give Washington State fisheries another penny. Life is too damn short to waste time on low opportunity fishing.
I agree 100% with you that the way they concentrate the pressure into particular areas is bullshit and is killing the fun in fishing. Hard to get excited about fishing Puget Sound when it means playing bumper boats because everything else got closed. The existence of a hatchery quota makes zero sense to me. For all our history, and in most places, salmon fisheries are managed for *escapement* not quota. There is no way in hell extra fishing days in area 9 would have lead to any of the hatcheries not making escapement. I understand concerns about killing baby Chinook, but there has to be a better way to address that than blanket closures, and when you concentrate all the fishing in one small area, no s*it a bunch of sublegals get brainspiked
Your title says it all. They close area 10 and we catch 3 good size clipped chinook the next two days out. Area 11 quota is 3,379 with only 820 caught. Area 10 quota is 3,566 with only 1,364 caught. 23% and 38% respectively. 4,700 clipped fish going uncaught .16 days of fishing in MA-11 this year. More fish returning this year, higher quota this year, but one less day fishing this year as compared to last. Something is terribly wrong with WDFW.
@NorthwestCatch A few years ago I thought the same. But seeing what has occurred the past few years has unfortunately changed my perspective. I wish they had our backs.
@@luhuang5405 I’m not sure what they thought was going to happen when they stopped feeding 120k pen raised smolts and released them at the Pt. Defiance boat house a month or so ago. Really? They’re hungry. They want to grow. They’re not going to travel far… no wonder there’s so many “encounters”… all of this is bullshit management at its finest. Terrible.
Yeah, I live near Redondo, WA in Marine Area 11 - they closed it up hard. Then the WDFW close MA 10 north of Vashon thru Seattle but eased up on that some. Have to travel some to go fishing but $5.29 gas on my retiree budget is tough to do! Still, I love my fishing!
Right! I remember their first attempt years ago at a high speed passenger ferry and the wake was to big so they sold them. These ferries almost come out of the water and don’t leave a giant swell behind them
Social media has also been a factor. You know the WDFW is watching everyone via Facebook, TH-cam, instagram. Doesn’t help to brag about everything. I haven’t posted about fishing in years because more people show up the next day. Less posts, less boats!🙏

The guide boats and natives kill the fishery’s. Guide boats go out and catch all day long and then the nets do their thing

I try my hardest to have wdfw back but this year especially has everyone confused and pissed.

Marine Area 11 reopens from the shore only. No boats until Sept 1. What a crock of shit.
Everything's about sub-legal encounter. Don't know if that's a good style of management.

I recognize the boat. I saw you out at Jeff Head. The front electric motor is distinctive. I just didn't put 2 and 2 together then.
Right on. If you see me again come say hi

Hopefully those herring boots jigged up didn’t add to the “encounters” 😂 good job 🎣
Too good.
It’s old news that’s puget sound way of fishing :D
Fun watching ya catch ‘em!
Great tasting salmon, great video 🎥🎣👏👍😎
Thanks 👍
What’s with the rod with the pulley? Just feel like fishing retro?😂
It’s an old school meat line rod. Still very popular in marine area11
Purple Hornet ftw! 🎣
That ferry was bonkers!!

8:03 I dunno why this came to mind?! 😁 th-cam.com/video/kq_GSIw0X0w/w-d-xo.html
When those ferries are bookin I pull Navionics app to see how fast we are going. 35 knots is fastest I’ve recorded.
Crazy. That is a good idea. I’m doing that next time
Same here in Washington state

Absolutely ridiculous. Let’s all hide in a hole.
What's the secret sauce? Just butter and chives?
Costco garlic salt seasoning, Irish butter and chives
Awesome thanks!@@NorthwestCatch
Wishin I was fishin
