Fly With Me to Bimini, Bahamas Part IV

- My parents visited me in Miami from Los Angeles and what better excuse to fly to the Bahamas.
Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States. It is the westernmost district of the Bahamas and compromises a chain of islands located 80km (50 mi) due east to Miami. We flew into South Bimini Airport and took a very short boat ride to get to the North Island. I have been to many beaches around the world and Bimini by far has the blue-est waters I have ever seen!
Hope you guys like this video. Thank you for all of your support both on Patreon and TH-cam =)

A beautiful young lady flying to beautiful places... who wouldn't give this is thumbs up. Keep on livin' the good life Sonia.
Ski & Cathy
Another wonderful video, thanks for taking us along for the trip.
YAY hearing Colin Hay singing the new version of Land down under!!...nice vid Soni...I come from the land down under!
I can't think of a more beautiful destination. I'm currently a student pilot learning in a C172sp. Noticed you were in a Skyhawk too. Can't wait to take flights like you do. Thanks for sharing your memories with us, they are a blast to watch !
That was an excellent video you put together. I feel like I'm riding with you. Great scenery.
That's a flight I have dreamed for decades about making. Thanks for making it and allowing us to come along. Love the ATC and the island views!
Nice finish with a classic Australian tune.
My Lovely Dr and Pilot Sonikhanem with a great video as always.
frank thanks Frank!
I just stumbled accross your you Tube postings and have really enjoyed them...Bimini was just 4 days ago. A little aviation history. US Navy Flt 19 that dissapeared in 1945 (Big Bermuda Triangle Mystery) took off from Ft. Lauderdale bound for Bimini Island.
Anyway...My wife and I are relocating from the West Coast (San Diego) for South Carolina. I have a Cessna 177 that will be coming with us of course.
Bimini and Key West is on our list of destinations. It was great to watch your videos and to get a feel for the adventure. I'm afraid that West Coast Desert flying is going to be a totally different animal than the East Coast!
Great as always. You are one cool cucumber. Looks like everyone had a great time and yes the water is unbelievable. Smile.
Wayne Magin you're right I'm always so serious. Need to smile more
Great video, beautiful island! If Tom ever quits his day job he can become Steveo's stunt double😎
I am sorry, you smile just fine, this is serious business flying an airplane, but you know that. My "Smile" was my way of saying to you, that you obviously enjoy just what you are doing and are one Cool Cucumber doing this. Big Smile. LOL
Thanks for taking me along! Great video! Now I want to fly to Bimini!!
Thank you for sharing, fun yet again...
Love it.. So beautiful.. thanks for sharing, from the most gorgeous female pilot in the country!
we are proud of you! I wish I'll be able to fly someday soon.
water looks gorgeous...spend the whole day basking in the sun and swimming in the sea. Lots of planes fly over this little island. Very nice treat..so sweet..BTW very pretty EYES!!
Beautiful Video! Love the music! keep up the great work! 🍻🍺
Beautiful captain,fly high 👍🏻🛫
wow! The beauty doesn't fall far from the tree!
Nice job! I've flown over the Bahamas on my way to Puerto Rico a couple times but never landed. I'm for sure heading down at some point this year to island hop! Just received my Bahamas Pilot Guide from AOPA. The planning has begun. Thanks for the video.
Nicely done Sonia. I'm thinking you should have your own show on the Travel Channel where you fly yourself to awesome locations.
Jeffrey Wolfe work in progress! Can't promise it will be on travel Chanel though 🙈🤓
originally came here from steveo's channel and must say love the work and the recent frequency of uploads compared to earlier I've been waiting lol. Keep it up. Job well done! : )
Great job! Your beautiful smile is overwhelming. Until the next video. Take care.......
Great vid ! Love watching your channel ! Thanks
Nice video
. Well done. I remember flying my parent's over New York city and going to Allentown and then back again. I'd fly with you anytime. I'll have to look you up at next osh kosh. Take care, G
I know that's an exciting feeling to actually fly with the parents aboard. Keep building those hours. Pretty soon, it'll be just parents and no "chaperone."
Great!, like we say in Puerto Rico "Brutal", I have been there in the past, congratulations, for you this trip will be unforgetable, your mother is cute and your father is handsome and you can share this time with them., it is really very important for you and for me with this video you make me remember my parents, sometimes I'm lost in my situations, thanks and God bless you.
What Fun! I like your music choice as well!
Pretty cool trip!!
Flying the Bahamas is one main reason I would love to get my private pilot license.😁😁
Great video.. I say your parents had a awesome time.. It is beautiful there, maybe one day I can visit there.. Take care, see ya on the next one..
loved the way you looked back at papa!! They must be so happy for you!! ❤
Awesome job, so beautiful. I am sure I mentioned before but I went to Bimini maybe 25 years ago on a Chalks seaplane, it was an awesome experience.
You are doing soooo great... Love the videos and your adventure
love your videos and you. your passion for cool things and places makes me smile. very cool
I know it's a little old fashioned, but the Bible says to honor thy mother and father... You passed with "flying" colors Ms Sonikhanem :-) I only hope that our children are half as honoring as you are ;-) I can't imagine flying with one of those magical boxes with all those buttons, learning to fly with steam gauges was hard enough for me ;-) Thank you for taking us along for the flight :-)
Brian W thank you for the kind words! And thank you for watching !
Another great vid !
Steve.
From England.
Flyer Doyle thanks Steve!!
You are a rock star!
Beautiful place it is thanks Sonia ,
Hi Sonia - Very nice video as usual. We are lucky to have the beautiful Bahamas so close. I hope that your return through the ADIZ and Customs was smooth. Good radios are super important. In my flights over big blue water I always have everyone wear an inflatable life vest and I try to go as high as possible to improve radio reception, radar visibility and power off gliding distance. Even to Bimini an altitude of more than 5000 feet is best. In summer it is cooler higher up and less bumpy - worth the time to climb.
Very nice footage. Interesting MAW cover at the end. I wonder who that was.
CM Woso I found it on Sc named MAW COVER Teliko.
Awesome video!
Very nice and the video is very much professional work 👌.
Nice footage!
Amazing !
thank you soo much for sharing...
Excellent video, beautiful place!
love it. giving me more motivation to finish my private
Im behind a little on your page but i sure am enjoying your videos... thanks for posting!!!
Good stuff as always! :-D
Hey! Great video! I read (most) of the comments here. I know how it is to have work and just life get in the way of flying! Hope you are able to get some great flying in this fall! The WX has been pretty bad almost every day here in Central FL. This fall maybe you can fly around and check out the fall foliage from above!
Thanks for sharing another flight! Which type of Cessna are you flying in this video? Looks like a 172.
Beautiful video and amazing colors. And water is breath taken.
I live on an Island and most of my flying is over water. Be prepared, just in case. Fly as high as possible and always wear a life jacket. Its not ease to put it on when you are inside of the plane.
You are doing so fine Sonia! :-)
You are awesome!
Thumbs up from me, for flying your parents to the Bahamas.... I bet you had a great time :)
thank you! we had a blast!!
another great video!
Nice video keep smiling always
Lovely Vid. I also come from the 'Land Downunder' and had'nt heard that Colin Hay mix before. Good idea but t wonder what you American friend think of the reference to those peculiarly Australian things mentioned. i.e vegimite sandwich, chunder, etc?
Great video......do you have your own drone for the aerial vids?
Ron Coker yes! I am in love with my mavic pro!
The aerial vids around the island, not in the plane of course. lol
Nice video
Nice!
muy bonita la isla para descansar¡¡¡. Prety Island to rest.
Hi S, you are coming along quite nicely .. just need the hours now. Take Steveo's cue and get used to writing down ATC's given data ... you will need the practice now for when you go IFR.
Hey, were you at Oshkosh this last week?? I could have swore I seen you on Tuesday coming through the main gate as we were leaving!
Yes! i was there only for one day, Tuesday =) hopefully next year ill be there the entire week and maybe have a meetup session!
Nicholas Grimshaw haha. Yes i was there literally for 24 hrs! And i was there that Tuesday.
great video!
That's funny I learned to fly on that exact plane when it was a Airborne Systems flight school. Let me know if you ever want to go up, always looking for people to fly that love aviation
Fernando Romani would love to! And same here as you can see I still don't feel comfortable flying alone. DM me!
Nice video! If you go to Garmin's site you can download the G1000 simulator to help you get better acquainted with the avionics.
Stephen Aull oh wow. I didn't know you can do that!! I'll get on it! And thanks for following along!!
Ditto. Thanks for the tip. Sonikhanem - You are doing the right thing going out with the instructor, kind of like doing an internship or residency. Soon you will become friends with others and learn from the group as a cohort. Get up to Oshkosh sometime.
where are your parents from.. such a cute couple
NIce cross-country flight. Great video. I was wondering if you could tell me the cost of the trip. I mean, airplane rental, trip to the beach and ferry trip, food, etc. I appreciate it.
Maybe I'll get to fly there someday
Possibly planning a trip there in March for my bday..how was getting through customs? Heard it could be a nightmare. Thx happy 2020!
How was it going over the ocean? I’m going at the end of August please let me know
I think you’re ready to take your IFR rating. Learning to fly in IMC shoots your situational awareness through the roof and, you'll be more prepared for unexpected weather on any flight. You will understand weather better, turbulence, icing, thunderstorms, and dozens of other weather situations can pop up on any flight. You'll learn how to understand and deal with it all. IFR radio calls can sound like a foreign language to VFR pilots. But when you get your instrument rating, you'll read back clearances and interact with ATC like a pro. You don’t have to worry about airspace. Will not be stuck at an airport do to low ceilings. You will understand avionics better. Start by always flying the same plane and instructor, when possible, work with a CFI II training under the hood for approaches and actual IFR conditions. Experience it even if you’re not PIC. It is not to soon, it will make you sharper even if you don’t go for your rating.
Great video look like you enjoyed yourself and amused your parents.
xrayneoo I startedI IFR in the spring but due to work and other obligations had to postpone until next fall. But I absolutely agree and def plan on it!
SONIA!!!!!!!
nice
Why would you decide to delay rotation to 65+ knots? Were you over gross weight? The airplane wasn't taking off from a high altitude airport. Also, did you bring along any flotation gear or an EPIRB?
no we werent overweight, and yes we did have float gear!
looks like you were a bit nervous on this flight.
trpldgtable I'm almost never nervous when I have another pilot. But was a bit too focused ! 🤗
Ugh G1000. I just started training, in non-glass cockpits, and honestly as a student I prefer it over the glass cockpits I've been a passenger with. I'm sure as I get more time it'll be easier to manage the advanced avionics, but in the meantime I just don't want to deal with the complexity.
Nice flight Sonia. you are right the water doesn't look real. you had a problem with the radio it was noisy . And remember a good pilot is always learning. That's from MzeroA.com
Wonderful with beautiful song. Please Link this songs.
open water ruh roh..hope yall can swim
well done.. check list is longer than the flight..but safety first
Wow
Flying 3500ft over open ocean to Bimini?? Kinda too low for me in case of an emergency. I would fly 6,500. And as PIC I’d make everyone where their life vests. One less thing to worry about. However great flight. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Sonia, I'd like to do their (Northstar) Bahamas Checkout also. Who was the CFI? Thx!
fish7days Tom is not a CFI but he does the BahAs check out. Highly recommend them!
@northstarflightacademy
Thx, On the list to do!!
fish7days give us a call when you are ready! (954) 952-2025
Thx. I emailed J last night.
Wanderful
Ignoring the long beard and fingernails for a moment, how long have I been asleep? Skyhawks have AUTOPILOTS? Those that I've flown barely had transponders!
Seriously though, this is some of the most beautiful and relaxing scenery on the web. Pretty girl, pretty scenery and airplanes... it just doesn't get any better.
Looked like a great trip.... you've got great lips Sonia! lol.... They look like your Mom's.... thanks for sharing the journey! You're beautiful inside & out!!
wonderful parents !! They did good on you ! Brian F. AKA GUSMIX22 on hear
Mum and Dad very quiet in the back this flight too.....
Jaimee Mather I guess I get the "quietness from them " :)
❤❤❤❤❤
Love to fly with you
Thanks for the shout-out Sonia. www.NorthStarFlightAcademy.com to schedule aircraft and Bahamas checkouts and flight training!
North Star Flight Academy @fish7days here is their info !
And do you fly now
Good. Show....H.H.
In a 172? You had to be heavy. But doable.
You 2 gel well.
PIC? No. But nice video.
I'm a little slow, on your comment, but I did get it right, he ain't a good instructor 😜
I think you mean "comprises".
Ben Bedell yes! I'll fix the typo. Good catch! Haha
did you get a conch salad from joe??
