    Due to a large number of requests, we elected to make a new video. We believe in personal safety and the use of respirators during soap making and elect not to talk during our videos. We are currently learning how to use technology in order to better our online videos; however, this is a slow and new process for us. We are soap makers, not professional cinematographers and editors. I want to be very clear- we do NOT support or tolerate bullying and harassment and expect better from our fellow soap makers and human beings. These posts will be removed by our Admin.
    Higher quality videos, better audio, and editing are things that we will work on in the future. We could have elected to withhold the video until the information was learned, but chose to share as is. Thank you all for your suggestions and we will look to this for future videos.
    For decades we have made beautiful hot process soaps with a process we call High-Temperature Hot Process or HTHP for short. HTHP is a method of soap making that applies the fundamental principles of soap science to accelerate the reaction rate of saponification. We apply our knowledge of fatty acids, solvents, additives, thermodynamics, and other chemistry concepts to create the soap with the appearance and properties that we desire, in a fast and efficient manner.
    After you have successfully completed this introductory recipe, you will have experience working with HTHP and solvents. You can use this experience, in addition to your UG2HP knowledge, to create and formulate your own beautiful transparent soaps, with the ingredients and additives of your own choosing. You can work with different solvent solutions, unique oil, and butter blends, and can create a soap that has the properties and performance you desire.
    Follow the video, recipe and written instructions to make your very own clear soap in less than ten minutes!

    Thank you for sharing your recipe. I have created a few M&P recipe's but I could not figure out how to get a complete translucent M&P slightly but not completely translucent. I used 99 % rubbing alcohol and sugar water 2-1 because that was what I had on hand. My M&P turned out good following your recipe and it is translucent. I'm happy to have found your easy recipe and it only took 10 minutes to make. thank you!

    My pilot friends tell me that their airplane used propolyn glycol to de ice the plane windshields
    It is also used to absorb extra water and maintain moisture in certain medicines, cosmetics, or food products. It is a solvent for food colors and flavors, and in the paint and plastics industries. Propylene glycol is also used to create artificial smoke or fog used in fire-fighting training and in theatrical productions

    Yesterday I made this recipe, it is wonderful! It hardened in one or two hours in cavity molds, then I melted a piece, added TD, powdered yellow mica, lemon fragrance and made some opaque, vibrant colored, beautiful little lemons for embeds! Very pleased with it, it still smells like alcohol, I just wonder the time we need to cure this transparent base before actually usiing it.
    - - -
    Ayer hice esta receta, ¡es maravillosa! Se endureció en una o dos horas en molde de varias cavidades, luego derretí un trozo, agregué TD, mica amarilla en polvo, fragancia de limón e hice unos pequeños limones opacos, de colores vibrantes y hermosos. Estoy muy contenta con la receta, todavía huele a alcohol, solo me pregunto cuánto tiempo necesitamos para curar esta base transparente antes de usarla.

    Hi! I loved your récipe! I live in Brazil and I'm having troubles to find sorbitol. I wonder if there is any other sweetener that replaces it keeping the transparent and clean aspect of the soap (other than the sugar that darkens a little) thank you! Thanks for sharing.

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Many people use sugar without issue and without any discoloration, so if you absolutely can't find sorbitol, it is worth a shot. Otherwise, sorbitol will likely need to be purchased from an online supplier, such as a cosmetic supplier or bakery supplier. It is a very common MP ingredient and is included in almost every MP base made.

      Moro no Brasil também e pra substituir o sorbitol faço calda de açúcar (lembre de passar na calculadora antes)
      Pra calda de açúcar não ficar amarela, vou pingando algumas gotas de sanitizante de legumes, você encontra em mercado mesmo na sessão de verduras e legumes, encontrei em um mercado grande aqui da minha cidade por 12 reais

I know some people use mica powder for resin projects like that, would that be safe to use with this chemical mixture?

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I do have a question though and I hope you can respond, the brand LUSH only combine glycerine and sorbitol to the hot water and then add the oils and EOs. Will this also work? Thanks!

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you do not add the PG and alcohol, you will not get a clear soap or meltability. You would also need a much high glycerin content for meltability which can then lead to issues like glycerin dew. You can also add FO/EO at the end with the understanding that it may cause clouding.
      This recipe is written as a basic introductory recipe to transparent and melt and pour soap. If you are not familiar with the processes of soap science, saponification, and lye safety, we do not recommend you make this recipe without first doing some research. The Ultimate Guide to Hot Process Soap coursebook is the perfect place to start.

    Thanks for this tutorial! Really beautiful outcome. Based on your experience do coconut oil and palm oil result in similar level of transparency in glycerin?

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Palm oil is not going to produce the same level of transparency because it has a higher concentration of palmitic and stearic, as well as usually having some unsaponifiables. It will still produce a clear soap, but not at the level of a clean and processed stearic acid and coconut oil.

  • @ruraledition

    My liquid pour looked white. I used methylated spirits that may be the issue. After 30 minutes of having poured, there developed a 5mm white frothy skin on the surface that I removed. The liquid under this skin was transparent. So I removed the white skin that I crushed into a ball and that still becomes frothy when I use it under water. You didn't supply a recipe so I used one from 101 soaping. I think there may have been toouch steric acid in the recipe. So next time, I'll reduce that and replace some of it with a tiny amount of castor. I'll keep you posted on results and I'll also include my recipe. Thanks for showing me this simple no fuss method.

      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This recipe is designed to be an introduction to clear soap making and although it is a certainly a mild bar, it is not formulated to act as a soap that provides gentle and softening properties. You can reformulate the recipe according to your needs.

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The recipe as written should only take between 6-12 hours to completely solidify the first time, and it will be a very hard bar. If it did not harden, there was an error in the formulating process, perhaps a mismeasured ingredient or a scale that needs to be recalibrated.

      Please don't think I'm silly for asking this but can the propylene Glycol be substituted with alcohol?
      Should the MP soap be left open for 4weeks after making it to reduce sweating when the MP is used as embeds on CPR soap which has to cure for 4-6weeks?

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@soappycuppycakes Yes and no on the propylene glycol. Propylene glycol not only helps lower the melting point of the soap mixture, but it is also is a midler solvent. For this specific recipe, we don't recommend doing a full replacement for the ethanol/grain alcohol, although you can certainly reformulate accordingly to accomodate the exclusion of the PG if desired.
      And luckily, this recipe is very low sweat! Cold (and hot process) soaps need exposure to the air around us so that they can experience an acidification process and water evaporation. You can use this recipe as "MP embeds" and it works wonderfully. Unless you are located in a very humid environment, you should not have any issues. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

      With all soap making processes, full PPE including gloves, goggles, and a respirator are recommended to ensure a safe production process.

    If i want to increase bubbles as far as i know can adding lauric or myristic acids could you advise what recipe can add or any other ideas .

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The recipe as written will produce a very bubbly soap. If it is fresh soap, allow it to cure for 2-3 weeks and retest. And yes, lauric/myristic fatty acids will increase the lather.

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. As stated in the provided directions, the ingredients must be heated/melted in order to successfully create this formula.

    Hello, if I exclude Propylene Glycol from the ingredients, will the soap base be re-meltable?

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The soap will still have a lower melting point than traditional soaps due to the other solvents; however, it will not be as transparent and it will not be as easily meltable. We recommend following the recipe as it was written, or adapting and reformulating to better suit your personal needs.

  • @jyotikapoor4468

    My attempt yesterday didn’t turn out transparent, what could have gone wrong? Is it something like too much cooking as I maintained temperature on a heater.

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried remelting the recipe? Did you follow the recipe as provided? Which solvents did you use? Did you allow the soap to completely dissolve in the solvents? Is your NaOH new? Things like undissolved soap crystals, weak solvents, and free fats can all create a more opaque appearance, but the recipe as written and provided will certainly create a beautiful, transparent soap.

    Thank you for sharing the video .I have a doubt the sorbitol solution. You say add it to water and heat to get a clear solution .. is it sugar or sorbitol ?

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both will create a clear solution, as both sugar and sorbitol are soluble in water. As noted in the verbal instructions, sorbitol is used in this video. You can elect to use either option when creating this recipe!

      I didn't have sorbitol or white sugar handy (only brown sugar). So I mixed 1 cup of water with 2 cups of powdered sugar (the very finely ground kind used for sugar icing) and it worked perfectly, except that the base came out opaque, not transparent, but it served my purposes already. which I myself added TD and colorant to work with the base.

    Thanks awesome video , but I have a question that I hope you answer
    Most soap makers use castor oil in transparent soap , why didn't you use it ? will it affect the transparency or colour ?

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is like asking "Why didn't you use olive oil in your cold process soap recipe?" This recipe is formulated to be very simple with two main fat sources and I wanted to use higher solvents for clarity. The addition of castor oil is optional, just like any other oil or fat. If you want to reformulate with castor oil you are more than welcome to! Hope that helps.

    Is steric acid is necessary or we can use candellian wax

    • @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP
      @THEULTIMATEGUIDETOSOAP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stearic acid and candellian wax are not the same compounds and although they may be used for comparable ingredients in other cosmetics, they cannot be interchanged for this recipe. The stearic acid reacts with the sodium hydroxide and saponifies to create sodium stearate, a hard, soluble soap. This allows us to create a transparent soap recipe with the addition of sovlents. You will need to use stearic or reformulate your recipe with other fats.

    Hi. Thank you so much for your informative video. It is really good. I was wondering how the soap behaves once the process of making it is finished? i.e. how long does it stay that fluid? I am desperate for a recipe for clear soap that allows me time to dip and coat things. Melt and pour is just not worth the hassle. Also I did try to subscribe to your blog but I don't think it worked sorry.
    Thanks again :)

    • @KarinaMD.11
      @KarinaMD.11 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you!! I need the same. I thought that to keep the base fluid, it occurred to me that while I'm working with it, maybe I can place it constantly on something warm at a low temperature like a yogurt maker or a pot for melting chocolate and turn it off if it gets too hot. . But I haven't done tests yet.
