    Love your brutal honesty not hiding your failures with welding etc the boat isn’t worth persevering with because of the aluminium fatigue and many cracks but you use what you’ve got and that’s A good thing cheers mate love your work

      Thanks mate, I don't see the point in trying to hide mistakes. We are all human and never get it right all the time. I think if it starts to develop large cracks again I will have to just scrap it but Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it now.

    It was crazy the difference just having primer on, the wee boat looks a million times better plus as you say it doesn't leak now and far more importantly you know there are no hidden leaks waiting to spoil a day and panic the family - crackin job (pardon the pun) 👍

    That looks suspiciously like my dinghy, 1972 De Haviland Norseman. Even the original green colour of the aluminum. Great tender mine planes with a 10 hp. Special note **** you probably are aware that aluminum boats don't like anything except their own paint. Anything else can start to eat your boat. I use mine as tender for my yacht, I stay onboard a lot so I am using it every day with crew and guests, shopping and so on.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can get her to plane with the 4.5 but I have to me way up the front and a completely empty boat lol. I wasn't actually aware of the different paints causing issues with the alloy. I would imagine it takes a long time to cause issues though?

    • @HarpersShed

      I would like to put much bigger engine on her but that would then require me to register it and then have to pay the yearly fees.

  • @Mardy72
    @Mardy72 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice little birthday for the old tinny, looks 100 times better than it did. Maybe get a zip up bimni cover. It goes over the fabric top when it's folded up. Just protects it a bit more when it's not being used, and keeps it tidy too.
    I'm guessing you just want a 5hp so you don't need to worry about registration? Or because you take the engine on and off a lot.
    Cheers mate 👍

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bimini came with a cover bag already, your spot on with the 5hp mate. Don't have to worry about rego and also like you mentioned I am always taking it on and off to keep the tender at the shore so don't want anything too big and heavy.

    Nice work on the boat, probably the best treatment it has received in a very long time! For an outboard I recommend a Yamaha 225 2.8L v6 four stroke, LOL Honestly you get what you want to with this boat being as old as it is and how thin the Aluminium is, a high horsepower motor is likely to damage the boat and cause more cracks to appear, so a lower HP engine would definitely be a better option. If you intend to put the thing into salt water, I do recommend you put an engine with a bit more than the outboard you currently have, incase the sea get onery on you by surprise, you should have enough horsepower to get you to shore is short order, but then again, I'm a total landlubber and heavy waters scare the poop out of me! Jeez, just standing on the shore of Vancouver looking out into the pacific with some really black clouds coming towards me is enough to send me looking for higher ground. The Ocean is far too untrustworthy for my liking, she's a cruel mistress and highly moody and I can't stand women like that so I tend to go elsewhere when she's fixing to have a tantrum! LOL even being on large bodies of water on land is something that commands respect, I don't know how you salt water dudes enjoy the ocean as much as you do, the only thing that entices me to salt water is the world class fishing that can be had in Saltwater. Deep sea fishing makes freshwater fishing look like that magnet fishing game that you see at fairs and outdoor attractions of similar ilk. I mean I want to fish for Tuna, big ole Bluefin Tuna! two to three hundred pounders, yeah! Love Tuna! Can't wait for your next video, no matter what it is!

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol I think a 225hp could be a touch on the big side for the 12ft tender. Main reason for only wanting a 5hp is we have a law here if it's over 5hp it needs to be registered. I also take the motor off and bring it home with me as the tender stays on the shore so a large outboard isn't practical. I don't particularly like going out in big seas too much either, we were in 6ft swells being Kiarra up the coast and that was enough for me. I do however like the idea of taking her back outside the heads on good weather for a fishing trip soon.

  • @AquaMarine1000
    @AquaMarine1000 ปีที่แล้ว

    Keep the rubber bung. You can pull it out when you are underwater to drain water and replace when dry.

    • @HarpersShed
      @HarpersShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      I never trusted them though. You can buy rubber scuppers that screw into the bung hole that allow water out when moving.

    Very nice to se ya mate. Two part bog doesn’t work due to contraction & expansion throw in twisting. Had a motor home 27 ft it over the years developed cracks above the side door and opposite side window Tim I fought them damn cracks fix them use it they would come back over an over. One day pulling into a fuel station light bulb 💡 moment twisting crack a beer can then keep twisting it. I would have to start boxing the frame to stop the flex. Might have to stiffen it if it keeps up. You have a nice weekend everyone. Jim western Washington USA it’s spring here yeahhhh
