Aquascaping a Shallow Nano Aquarium with Massive Wood!

- In today's step by step aquascaping tutorial, I show you how to scape an advanced planted aquarium in a shallow tank, the UNS 5S (2 gal). In order to create big impact in a small canvas, I'll be working with some very large locally collected wood to create some verticality. While this is a relatively advanced build, I've got lots of tips and tricks for beginners and intermediates alike!

I think all of us in the hobby have thought one time or another that it would be really cool to have a shallow tank. I like the shape and size of this one. I may have to get one on a shelf in my office. The only fish I would suggest is 6 pigmy corys and shrimp (of course). I love what you did with the wood work it is really impressive.
Just released an update with the fauna choices!
Beautiful shallow aquarium 🌿
Thanks, I've been loving it!
This is a beautiful tank. All the time you spent on it paid off.
I really appreciate that. It brings such a cool vibe to my space
I love shallow tanks I’ve got a 30x60x16 waiting to be scaped and a fully scaped 35x60x22
Stunning hardscape! My nano tanks have Chilli Rasboras and Blue Neon Rasboras but I did consider CPDs as well
All amazing species! I miss the Blue Rasboras I was keeping in Portland
Crystal Reds would be my fave
I'm leaning toward something like that
Love the hardscape. Get the Blitz. It would look so good on that tank!! I have 2 and love them.
Good to know you like the Blitz. I'm eager to try one
Definitely one of my dreams as well and will still be a while, yet one day🙂
Fortunately this little guy is very affordable, so at least it won't be a huge money sink when you decide to execute
Crazy. I just set up a UNS 45S with he same sand, accent rocks and seiryu stone yesterday. Looks good, have a good rest of your weekend! Also no fish, i would do some blue bolt shimps if you wanna mix it up from neos.
Blue bolts are beautiful! Great suggestion
For what it’s worth… If you’re the kind of person who makes their own tanks, it is definitely worth the extra effort to port so you don’t have as much hardware inside your tank. Also, great video, great scape!
pretty tank, but this video feels more like a "Where are they now?" interview rather than a build episode lol
I think you should get a larger 120cm and do a IAPLC submission next year!
That's the dream!
Add Norman's lampeye killifish and Bamboo shrimp
Killifish are so cool and I'd love to keep them. Bamboo shrimp are way too large
Chili or neon green rasboras!!!
Love both of those species!
Logan, this is without question the most beautiful tank I've seen in years. Translate that in: ever!
Esp. because it can be used in a higher / normal tank
Thank you! I'm really glad you like it. It's one of my favorite aquascapes I've ever created
Filter outweight the tank. Try to hide it or go for something else
How about just 1 Scarlet Badis and a few neo cardina shrimp?
Scarlets are awesome!
Which filter ? Lilly pipe.?
All explained in detail in the video. Feel free to check the video chapters to jump to the filtration section
for me, blyxa japonica really weird plant..sometime they keep shrinking
The growth is slow for you?
Maybe something like indostomus crocodilus
Wow those are so cool! Thanks for bringing that species to my attention
I have a 2.5 gallon that I tried to house some stuff in, but the small size and how delicately set up everything was made maintenance a nightmare.
Gluing everything firmly into place can help make maintenance a lot easier
@@LoganRandoAquascaping I think it was more the Mopani wood I had in it that just kept getting gross and leeching tanins into the water. I'm definitely not giving up on scaping it, but it'll be awhile before I try again.
@@jessm.2779 I hear ya. That can be frustrating. Good to take a little break sometimes and then come back with new knowledge and experience. I still have scapes that totally fail from time to time
@@LoganRandoAquascaping I wish I could show you my 7.5 though! It's really pretty and I'm super proud and in love with it.
fishless with some zebra babaultis or wild type bee's
2 gallons is pretty small. I would stick with shrimp and that’s about it. MAYBE a betta…
Betta is waaaay too large for a tank of this size, but I would love to do a betta scape at some point
I agree with the Betta. I know many say a minimum of 5 gallons for a betta, but if he could rescue one stuck in a glass in a pet shop, then 2 gallons will feel like a castle
@@Lorgayle1 my smallest tank for one betta is 5.5 and then my largest for a single is 11. I have a sorority and a male in a 20 long though 😬 defying all odds 😂

These are beautiful!
Gallons and inches 😣
Sorry, I copy all the spec info from the Buce Plant website and don't wanna clutter up the screen with too many numbers. Fortunately it's easy to convert
