I do love the shrimp! I gave my young granddaughter some for her tank and she said‘I like the way they sit on the bottom and knit! Now that’s all I see lol
Another winner, Matt! I'm curious, to the rest of the viewers: Am I the only one who ltalks back to Matt during the videos? ("OH I like that.....yeah that's better...." etc)? 😅
In my head I reply, especially like the open ended questions like you say, when Matt says “I think that looks better?” I’m definitely like “yeah I prefer that” in my head! 😂
I know that cuttings from this species can live in plain tapwater for at least a year and grow lots of roots, some nutrients will probably get them to put out new leaves! :)
hi fish shop matt! i have a tank with very similar dimensions and used the same umbrella tree for a very similar setup funnily enough :) my tree struggled a bit at first and dropped quite a few leaves but once it started growing new roots it bounced back and now looks better than ever so i'd suggest being patient and leaving it in even if it does start looking a bit miserable. you always put together such lovely aquariums, thank you for sharing them with the world!!
Wow what a beautiful setup Matt love the usage of the tree creating that effect, reminds me of when I used to go fishing as a kid, you would always find schools of fish hiding under the shelter/ shadows from the trees
Fish shop Matt got blueberry snails! I'm so jealous ❤. They give live birth and only to a single baby every 3 weeks or so. They are a bit expensive for a snail here in Oklahoma.
Awesome build!!! I must confess I was a bit dubious when I saw the shallowness of the tank, but it turned out absolutely marvelous! What fun!!! Thanks for sharing...
Could you please show more about how you made the filtering system ? We didn’t get to see how you placed the pump ? Location ? Prefilter sponges? Loved the build !!!! Great job !
So I've known you were going to do your own channel for a long time, and had been looking forward to it. Today this popped up in my feed and I got really excited. You did not disappoint, this is exactly the sort of content I was hoping for and I am truly inspired as both a fan of bonsai and a man with far too many shrimp tanks. When people ask me how my new addiction has started I will be sure to blame you.
Blueberry snails are the coolest! They’re a live bearer snail so about once a month they should just pop another baby snail out! If you get the chance try checking out piano snails which are equally as stunning! Amazing tank set up Matt!!! And great video as always🤩🥹
Yeah I can appreciate that. I have been looking at some different things to use as a shallow scape. I've seen a couple of IKEA plants stands that are deep and could make cool shallow displays.
I bought myself 3 of the blueberry snails a few months ago and can indeed confirm that they do not leave the water. According to online sources, as long as you have males and females, they should release a baby about once a month. This corresponds with the rates I have witnessed. I currently have about 4 babies :D
The schefflera, you can cut back the stem and it'll branch. Any cuttings will root and grow easy when put in water. This way you can multiply your plant for future projects. It doesn't need a lot of light to grow. The more light it gets, the shorter the internodes between the leaves will become. Nice, simple setup.
As soon as the initial tree and rock placement happened,..... my thought was it needed to be for a few crabs. (Or crawdads / crawfish) More potential interest and activity than snails and shrimp.
Aside from cinescaper, shallow tanks don't really get showcased much by TH-cam aquarists which is unfortunate considering how amazing they end up with the emersed/submerged growth. Looks great Matt! 👍
You should do an indoor mini pond for medaka price fish. Maybe in a tub or pot. Just setting one up myself now and would love to see your take on it. I bought a large plastic planter from home bargains for £5. A sponge filter, some hornwort and some floating plants. I think this will be my easiest and cheapest set up yet! 😄 Also as a side note (I’m really not trying to be condescending here so please don’t take it that way) but placing filter start in the aquarium and leaving it for a week is doing absolutely nothing because you do not have an ammonia source.
wow Matt, you surpassed yourself with this one. Such a cool aquarium, and just goes to show that you dont need a deep tank, or a lot of space to enjoy the hobby.
We have trees all around the beach line here. The roots have gotten exposed, and some have died from the tides, so I've been collecting them for my aquarium. They're even sun bleached, looks amazing!
I got an umbrella plant on lava like that for AUD 16 (Aldi special buy!), but 4 pots of anubias like that will be at least AUD 50 or so, while the rocks would be around AUD 20. So yeah, opposite to yours, the umbrella plant is the cheapest!!!
I love these shallow tanks! I've been wanting to do one for ages. We've got all kinds of beautiful shallow habitats where I live, and there's so much inspiration to draw from. It's great to see someone else's take on a shallow scape to get more ideas going.
Really cool scape without a ton of effort. Love it. Looking forward to version 2 when the tree has grown and you had one or two more on a larger scape, ideally also including some fish at that point
Matt You should put a couple of African Dwarf Frogs in there. Plenty of space for them. They won't bother your snails or shrimps. Feed them on frozen food and sinking pellets. Anything uneaten will be polished off by the shrimps and snails. ADFs are epic and as they're completely aquatic, they won't climb out. .
Just been binge watching all your videos Matt im a addict 😱. Going to pay aquarium gardens at visit sometime this week because of you 👍 keep making us videos matt we all appreciate it enormously 👍
Great build, Matt! I really like that style of tank too. There seems to be loads of possibilities with a low tank like that. Have a fantastic week ahead! Cheers! ~Ron
that is beautiful ! my 2 cents is that schefflera will either thrive or die... can't wait for an update. if it thrives, you'll find it's a very fast grower ... might want to keep it bonsai size :) you just started a new hobby !
i mean, i had friends drowning schefflera i gave them, but my experience is also that when it's thirsty... it's THIRSTY ... in caps, be ready to refill that aquarium on hot days :)
That's really good to know thank you! I've found a lot of the time that people end up over watering plants in soil and then the soil turns nasty and kills the plant. Haven't had it happen much with growing plants out the top of the aquarium yet.
Digging this one... Been looking at a bookshelf tank for some time, this is giving me those vibes. So nice! 😊 But, Azalea Wood? I'm surrounded by azaleas here in Virginia USA; do you mean the wood branches or the roots of? Super curious as I love to use things on our property if I can. Thanks Matt, good stuff as usual. 😊
Love it. Fabulous work Matt. Not to take away from your vision/ build, but I think MD definitely had a positive effect on the way you look at building a tanks. You’re so much more confident in front of the camera nowadays to what you were at the start, although I liked your hiccups back then. 😂 keep up the great content. 😊
I'm wondering if you can do this with Dwarf Australian Weeping Willows too... They do well in swampy areas and they shoot out tons of roots from cuttings when submerged in water. Could be a cool experiment
hey Matt you should actually make a mangrove swamp tag with figurine puffers Archer fish different types of mud skippers and other brackish waterfish you can even have maybe fiddler crabs I'm sure there are lots of brackish waterfish that are needed to SE Asia that you could add. Just an idea if you really wanted to do an actual mangrove swamp with real mangroves cause some stores do sell them and they will grow in fresh water even though they prefer brackish but they do need fresh water. Up to you just thought I'd mention it.
Always wandered what to do with shallow tanks... now I know lol. Looks amazing didnt think you could do that much with it and the addition of the critters just make it come alive. Beautiful. On a side note my red shrimps had babies , so excited never had baby shrimps before lol
Blueberry Snails! I have some, they are a somewhat hard to find in the USA right now. I found that mine only seem to eat dust algae and biofilm. They will not touch the algae wafers or blanched vegetables. I ended up losing two of mine (oddly enough both my males), I think because my tank is only a couple months old and they had a hard time finding enough food. I am a bit concerned you might experience the same thing with your setup being so new. I stopped cleaning my glass on two sides of the tank to make sure there is enough biofilm and dust algae for them. I haven't lost anymore since. I am hoping that one of the 5 babies mine had are male so that mine continue to breed and my group grows. I have an open top tank and none of them have climbed out so you shouldn't have that issue. I love this build! It turned out absolutely beautiful! You may have inspired me... 🙂
That's exactly what I read a few days after I finished the video. I've actually popped some mature prices of wood behind the rock structure to hopefully give them somewhere to graze.
I think if you ever add any fish Harlequin Rasbora would be lovely in that tank set up. Just enough color and that touch of movement would be a bonus. Love this set up.
@@FishShopMatt That's always the biggest problem if you want to call it that. lol So many choices. I was just thinking of something small and colorful of course there are more choices. Enjoy you did a lovely job on this one.
the tree will keep growing towards the light; I might think about adding a spotlight pointing towards it from the other end of the tank, to tempt it to grow sideways.
You should add some Cory’s in the tank. With all that space in front of the scape you would really be able to watch them play, and they do good in shallow tanks. I put a school of Venezuelan Red Sails Cory’s in an 11 gallon shallow bookshelf tank. They are the focal fish and they play constantly in the sands and plants. Thank you! I love the idea that you talk back. That's how I like to present and talk is like you're with me scaping.
In my head I reply, especially like the open ended questions like you say, when Matt says “I think that looks better?” I’m definitely like “yeah I prefer that” in my head! 😂
Your not the only one gahah
Nope you are not alone, lol from the USA.
Sunday cup of tea watching fishshop matt 🎉
Thank you!
I thought it was a gorgeous aquascape, but adding the extra wood out of tank took it to the next level! very nice!
I can’t wait to see if the tree survives, the moment I know it does I’m buying one. Epic build good work Matt.
I know that cuttings from this species can live in plain tapwater for at least a year and grow lots of roots, some nutrients will probably get them to put out new leaves! :)
@@daskdasksson5873 thanks for the info I will deffo give it ago now 👍
@@daskdasksson5873 what is the name of the tree please?
Very cool, I reckon some fog rolling out of the tree would be epic.
I love this one! Will you be using any kind of filtration in here? Or water changes or what??
This is my favorite scape I've ever seen done. It looks like living art.
You’re making me want to scape a shallow tank myself, even though I don’t have space for one. Great vid as per always!
hi fish shop matt! i have a tank with very similar dimensions and used the same umbrella tree for a very similar setup funnily enough :) my tree struggled a bit at first and dropped quite a few leaves but once it started growing new roots it bounced back and now looks better than ever so i'd suggest being patient and leaving it in even if it does start looking a bit miserable.

LOVE THIS SHALLOW SCAPE💚💚💚
Wow what a beautiful setup Matt love the usage of the tree creating that effect, reminds me of when I used to go fishing as a kid, you would always find schools of fish hiding under the shelter/ shadows from the trees
Thanks buddy! Yeah I totally agree, I've got a few spots locally that are the same.
Fish shop Matt got blueberry snails! I'm so jealous ❤. They give live birth and only to a single baby every 3 weeks or so. They are a bit expensive for a snail here in Oklahoma.
I love how that rack started as one jelly fish 😅😅❤

When you mentioned MD I got nostalgic.
I love the scape! Shallow tanks have a special place in my heart, I just wish they didn't cost one arm and one leg ^^°
Yeah I can appreciate that. I have been looking at some different things to use as a shallow scape. I've seen a couple of IKEA plants stands that are deep and could make cool shallow displays.
Now I want a setup like this 😁
Bonsai combination?? Love it !
That tree is bonsai root over rock.👍
Omg that was so fun to watch! I love that you do unconventional projects like that. Makes me want one too! lol thanks Matt
OMG Aquafleur has their logo on the top of the label now? Thanks to MD for sure
ah yes, sounds so familiar. The back of my mind is fulled with tank ideas 🙂
Same man, I would already be a competition grade aquascaper if I could afford to actually go forward with all my ideas 😂
All the ideas and not enough time to do them! Hahaha it's a serious problem!
Or room! I want a shrimp and snail only tank but can't even find room for daughters hw space atm lol.
What a great job BRAVO! I love my shallow tanks with trees and immersed aquatic plants coming out of the water thanks Matt.
Love this idea Matt, another fab scape, those snails are very cute, haven’t seen them before either.

I have been following hundreds of fish tanks channels , yours is one of my favorites .

Love your enthusiasm and honesty Matt. Keep it up, be yourself 😊
Personally when u added the extra "roots" sticking out of the water made it look even better ❤
Im obsessed with the blueberry snails!!!!
They're great aren't they!
Love the shrimp chilling on top of the snail's shell
Very cool! Its as nice up close as it looked in its cameo 😂
You have such creative ideas! I love watching your channel!!!
Thank you so much!
Your videos are not only lessons in fish keeping and aqua escaping... they are also very relaxing 🤩
Really cool build Matt! An unconventional tank that turned out really awesome
Glad you like it
You really created a Taiwanese mangrove riverbank especially with the cherry shrimp
looks fab, but i'd cut few bottom leaves, or half of them, so the trunk looks more elegant elongated, the way they treat bonsai trees
This is what I was thinking but I have a hard time trimming things that are doing well.
beautyfull Build! im in love with it And most importment I love you doing these Aquascapings, Thank you Greetings From The Netherlands.
Beautiful aquarium, it screams cherry shrimp, & snails. Yea, I guess you heard it too. A cuttle bone for bird cages gives them calcium for their molt.
Absolutely love this build! Really enjoying shallow tanks I’ll need to find that plant here too! Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you so much.

Looks great Matt! 👍
Thank you! Yeah I totally agree, I get bored with the same old glass rectangle with wood, rocks and plants I need to change it up every so often.
Another awesome scape. Again, I love how all your scapes look different, instead of over planting and hide the hardscapes.
You should do an indoor mini pond for medaka price fish. Maybe in a tub or pot.
