Both are responsible for the death of their old masters. Both end up killing most of their own kind. Both wear masks to conceal their identity as well as to hide scars. Both command an army of white clones. Both command an evil organisation with a handful powerful members dressed in black. Both of them are reminded of their past selves by a cocky blonde kid. Hell yeah Force users on average are incredibly strong foes, even moreso when they have no qualms about killing you dead, even MORE so when they take gratification from it like a Sith does. Obito was one of the few on a very short list of ninja I believed could manage a win in a fight with a force user. with Vader as that force user, that list collapses to like, maybe 3 with Obito being one of them.
@@symphony_in_152mm2ehh maybe a little more than 3. I believe Obito, Madara, Sasuke, Naruto, and Teen Boruto can beat him. This, of course, doesn’t account for the Edo Hokage who are immortal
Agreed, even though it was pretty clear who would win i enjoyed feeling like Vader was a powerful, magical dark knight on some evil quest. Very satisfying to watch UNLIKE THE AIZEN V MADARA BULLSHITE (SALT SALT SALT SALT)
I'm convinced the entire reason they chose these two was not because of any common grounds they had but because they wanted to make the "He could beat Obi-one but couldn't handle Obi-two" joke.
Except its literal cap their logic on alot of obitos stuff is just made up. He can't use the sixth paths thing by himself and the infinite tsukiyomi can't be instantly activated. And the understood vader his powers definitely work in other universes. And as anakin he's was able to bring down the physical embodiment of both the light and darkside of the force. And vader is even stronger vader wins this fight low diff. Plus they left out one of vaders strongest forms which is his Astral form. This whole fight is cap.
@@habijjj the infinite tsukiyomi isn’t why he won, that’s just for the animations. The animations don’t necessarily say how the fight will go, it’s just a visualization of the fight that shows off the cool abilities and stuff. For example here they cite a major win condition for obito is to use kamui and trap vader in kamui dimension, that’s something that didn’t happen in the video because it’s not climatic and is a boring way to end, but if you ran this fight 1k times I bet at least 2 or 3 times out of ten Vader goes to stab obito and he just uses kamui. But obviously you can’t portray that so they just show something cool to watch and then give the real reasons after Besides I thought it was really cool, both the initial genjutsu showing Padme and the last illusion, thematically it’s very appropriate and it’s almost sad in a way. But even if u disagree on that just know that cinematic =/= outcome
Tbf both Vader and Obito can oddly relate to each other. As Obito said himself in the episode, both of them lost their humanity even though they started out as idealistic heroes.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up mentality in the post-match commentary, Vader had some serious emotional trauma that could be exploited; the same pain and anger that made him strong was also his biggest weakness.
True. Importantly, it's also something that might actually have mattered. Madara says he tought Obito how to manipulate the hatred in peoples hearts at it shows in how Obito manipulated Sasukes anger to turn him against the Leaf
The fact that obito made darth vader's death painless and relatively "happy" just shows how much he respects him, when he found out that he was very similar to darth vader
I mean Obito's whole plan of domination was always driven by his own ideas of kindness and a sense of justice, I don't think Obito really killed anyone to make them suffer but to heal what he saw as a broken world.
Until this battle, I never realized how similar Darth Vader and Obito are. Both of them lost limbs and were horribly maimed after a brutal battle, were manipulated into joining the dark side by an old man with white hair, and lost the loves of their lives, which caused them to abandon their old identities and literally and metaphorically dawned a mask and assumed new identities. Yet for all the atrocities they committed, they were ultimately redeemed and brought back to the light thanks to the actions of a blond-haired youth.
@@Squirrel486 Pinky Pie from My Little Pony, funny when in DP2 he calls Yukio Pinky Pie. And I think when they put Chuck Norris vs Segata Sanshiro they instead destroyed the universe
When I first saw this I thought it was kinda ridiculous how Darth Vader, a guy that just has cybernetic enchancements, a light saber and a pretty great hold of the force, could hold off against Obito. But after 10 seconds into it, I remembered just how great the force truly is, and how one sith was once able to completely suck dry a planet with it.
Seeing Darth Vader fight a ninja is pretty cool if you consider a lot of George Lucas’ design inspiration behind him came from Samurai and their armour. The ending to the fight was amazing too.
It also makes a lot of sense for Vader to lose that way, too, since the more hurt and angrier he gets, the stronger he gets. Ironically, Vader is quite literally weak to love, as is Obito, considering how both were unstoppable while they were wrathful and spiteful but succumbed to their doomed fates when they became inspired by the love that they once strived to protect in order to beat someone much greater. The dialogue is also nice foreshadowing because they're so similar character-wise that Obito would have the self-awareness to know that fueling his opponent's wrath would just make the fight harder, so he bestowed the gift of a beautiful illusion of love that he craves so badly as the finishing blow, to someone who also craves it just as badly.
@@joshuakim5240 Wow, that was the perfect way to explain the character dynamic between those two. Ironically, even though Obito ultimately changed his ways and decided against the Infinite Tsukuyomi, I think Vader would have have seen it as a gift and accepted it as his end... I also think what Obito said to him at the very end was an acknowledgement of his and Vader's shared pain and perhaps a show of compassion...
The thing that i loved the most in this fight is Vader's pure straight path slow aggression against Obito's ruthlessness and bag of tricks. Especially when Obito uses fire style on the sith just to get pulled directly into said flames, Vader crushes Obito's sturdy mask with just one hand, (which took a jin cloak rasengan to break) only to see the face of his long lost dead wife whom he blamed himself for regarding her death. He breaks the genjutsu to see obito smirking at him before attempting to pull Vader into the Kamui world. Genius scene by death battle
Obitos masks arent armor, theyre to hide his identity. they are probably the same material as anbu masks. the problem is - most people simply are not hitting obito. it didnt take a rasengan to break it, its just that a rasegan hit it. Kakashis kunai left a pretty deep gash in it. and konans paper bombs blew it in half.
@@DrippUP actually Obito's WA mask is pretty damn hard since it tank a headbutt from jinchuriki without a single scratch. Obito himself said that it made of spacial material exactly for the battle. And to take a gash from the Kakashi's raikiri it's not an antifeat since Kakashi literally pierce a biju cloak with it couple chapters before. So no, white mask is definitely not made from same material as anbu
Does Obito really I mean his apprentice left him Ashoka after he helped her from being framed he was a slave and said he was gonna meet his mother again and when he did she died in his arms He had visions of Padme death and when he asked yoda he said rejoice she will become one with the force also Obiwan faked his death and when he told about his visions of his mother death to Obiwan he said u can go later meanining this caused his mother death
That's true. I read their connection at death battle wiki. I was surprised how many similarities they have. Both were protagonists who lost their humanity. When it comes to understanding they're the equilavent of Shoto and Zuko.
Vader didn't lose in my opinion. The infinte tsukuyomi isn't an ability Tobi possesses. It was an arbirtrary event that happened in Naruto that took decades of conspiring. It wouldn't just manifest on the fly like a force choke.
@@stoiccrane4259 Nah, If obito didn't have the 10 tails and infinite tsukuyomi, vader would've cooked him well done like a steak, but I also like the battle as is.

Because Qui-Gon was the father figure. When Obi-Wan took on Anakin, he was still Qui-Gon's Padawan and just ready to become a Knight and therefore quite young. If Qui-Gon hadn't have been killed, Anakin would have turned out so much different.
I’ve said it once but I really do appreciate how these days, Death Battle does more character-driven, dramatic deaths rather than purely shocking mortal kombat deaths. Like this one felt like a bittersweet death given by an opponent who understood his opponent’s pain.

Actually, no. the Emperor forbade him to ever do anything of the sort. He needed Vader to be weak and feeble, so he could be controlled. Changing his suit one bit would be a treasonous act for both Vader and whoever changed it.
@@corjonbett Sort of. OP is right in that there was one timeline where Vader was given the opportunity to upgrade and chose not to. I forget if it was canon or Legends, though. It happened in one but not the other.
It doesn’t even matter. Vader would still give into temptation and he would still get owned….. unfortunately this is a thing. I even saw a comic on it. And he crazy desperate for Padme which is his downfall.
Interesting thing I noticed near the beginning of the fight: when Vader first impales Obito, his lightsaber clips through the ends of Obito's headband, which could be easily written off as a run of the mill animation error, but it's actually an indicator that Obito is using Kamui to phase through the attack. That's a nice touch.
I mean if obito couldn't phase through attacks I would have called bull, that was one of his most broken abilities and even in the show without those set circumstances established in naruto with kakashi, no one would have landed a hit on him.
Small issue though. In one of the info boxes, Wiz and Boomstick mentioned that when he absorbed the ten-tails, he lost the ability to phase himself with Kamui (see 11:29). Since Death Battle is using him after he absorbed the ten-tails, then while he had all the powers granted from that fusion, he should have not been able to use powers lost.
@Lordmewtwo151 Actually death battle have this weird thing where they like to use everything at once. Obito doesn't start off as a chinchuriki during the fight, its later that he absorbs it cause odd Coincidences.

@@idkibk7 It’s not the winner I’m worried about but the battle itself. If the battle is unsatisfying to watch then the win might as well have been a tie or a stomp… Ben 10 vs Green lantern is an example of how not to make a satisfying battle, Goku vs Superman (the third one) is the exact opposite.

@@sugardady1019 wrong. Alien X is for sure above 5D, but saying he is above 26D isn't certain. All we know is that there are at least 26 spatial dimensions in Ben 10. Green Lantern has decades of comic feats to pull from, while Ben has only used Alien X 6 times in the prime continuity (one of those times he is immediately transformed back to Ben by Paradox).
Only thing I truly really miss was them introducing the theme of the matchup with a quote BEFORE first mentioning the fighters during the first few seconds of each episode. It's a minor detail or at least should be, but urgh, does it bother me as I liked the other way so much better.
Alright, this is probably my favorite episode of the season so far The fight was really good overall, especially that scene of Vader facing down the Ten tails and shrinking that attack. But that last scene was something else. Vader being caught in the infinite Tsukuyomi, seeing his wife Padme, attempting to reconsile her. And Obito taking him out in not an over the top way, but in a quick and tense scene, recognizing another man who lost his humanity and granted him peace. Seriously, hats off to everyone who made this. It was fantastic.
This was definitely the best DB so far this year and honestly, I think it will be hard to top as the best this year. DevilArtemis outdid himself in the animation, the matchup was perfect, and the emotions are high.
If I remember correctly I heard Darth Vader had the options in legends to update his suit and make him even stronger, but he decided not to do so because he thought he deserved to be trapped in the crappy one. Also a scary detail is Sith just get stronger the more angry they get, like psychic hulks and Vader has gotten so pissed off he didn't even need the life support system for days or even sleep. Although when he calmed down he needed the life support again.
There was a scene in the comics where Vader fought Darth Maul. When Maul asked Vader what he hated so deeply that it gave him that much power, Vader's answer was chilling. "Myself."
“You are liberated from hell. Find peace in the next life.” I can see Anakin in his last moments coming back from the dark side, silently shedding a tear while whispering his last words… “Thank you…”
@0RosannaH is lightsaber would reduce Gaara's sand to glass, and the force would allow him to control it to roughly the same level, maybe higher. While I do think these two chuckleheads underestimated Gaara BIG TIME (feel free to disagree), I'm not so sure he could beat Vader.
Fun fact about Obito is that his goggles are a carry over from when Naruto was supposed to keep his goggles after he became a ninja but Kishimoto said it was too hard to consistently draw
I love that Vader's version of "getting stronger as the fight progresses" isn't actually a new form or a new weapon or anything. It's just gradually losing parts of his awful suit that's just holding him back.
Vader's suit doesn't hold him back, it's part of the reason why he's so strong. The suit hurts him and makes him even angrier than he would be if he had a perfectly comfortable one, and he had said this and chose to stick with this design because of it.
@@see.eye.2361 the suit did make Vader ridiculously strong, making every strike of his feel like a tank slamming down on his enemy's saber, but still, physical force is nothing compared to using the force to enhance your attributes like Yoda and Sidious do, so having a better suit would hurt him in physical power and the force.
I never realized just how much these two had in common from story arc similarities to even having some power similarities. That final fight was awesome
People compared the scene with Obito asking Naruto to join him to the scene where Vader asked Luke to join him. Funny how universal some story themes are.
Hell, even their speed and power was close to equal. Mix all that with how perfect an ending putting these 2 got us and damn. Because just so we're clear, this is favorite ending thus far.
vader might be able to handle obi wan, but he couldn't handle obito kakashi might be able to handle obito but he couldn't handle obi wan i see what you done there Death Battle
@@baziworld I'm honestly confused why kakashi lost the fight. he has the same abilities as obito in terms of kamui. even if obi-wan wanted to crush kakashi's lungs, kakashi would have just teleported his lungs to the kamui dimension. he can also use kamui offensively by using kamui on a body part and sending it to the kamui dimension like he did deidara.
An extra fun aspect to the way this fight was portrayed is that both Vader and Obi-Wan probably recognized and had the power to break out of the illusion. However, while Obi-Wan is too emotionally controlled due to his adherence to the jedi code for Kakashi to try to use anything except fear to get that sneak attack, Vader got everything he wanted and appears in the last second to lose connection to the dark side.
My issue is that they use Padme specifically. She is the essentially the embodiment of Vader's greatest failure and the main reason his hatred is so great. Palpatine tells Vader that through her death, she gave him the gift of pain and pain does fuel the Dark Side. Last time Vader had a illusion of Padme in front of him, he force choked her again and then when a fake Anakin appeared to attempt to avenge her, he cut him down the same way Obi-Wan had done so to him. What they should have done is used Luke who represents what could be and not what he had lost
It makes sense, but now that I’m thinking about it didn’t Yoda do something similar in one of the comics and Vader ended up breaking from it and killing him?
@@kuribohbrother I don’t think Vader ACTUALLY killed Yoda proper but maybe a illusion of him. What I can say is that in the Vader series when he goes to bleed his Kyber crystal, the Force makes a active attempt to cause Vader to return to the Light, showing him visions of him slaying Palpatine and then finding Obi-Wan and begging forgiveness which Obi-Wan appears to do. Vader breaks the illusion, stating “No, this is all there is” as he pours in his anger, pain, hatred and fear into the Kyber crystal and causing it to bleed
I love this matchup, Anime character vs movie character. Therefrom completely different cultures but they have so much in common. Fight was awesome as well these battles never disappoint. Almost feels like a sequel to kakashi vs obi wan. Love how it ended in the infinite tsukuyomi. Never seen that weaponised in a battle before. One missed opportunity was not to include the kamui dimension In the fight animation though they did mention in the wrapup. But that's only a small criticism. Awesome as always death battle
As they said though, Kamui would have been an instant game over for Vader, so it would only be able to used as a finisher. Remember, the fights are just a spectacle - so throwing in an instant win move right at the start wouldn't make for a good fight. Also, when it comes to finishers... Yeah, Infinite Tsukuyomi was a no brainer and far better finisher than sucking Vader into the Kamui dimension.
Two things that surprised me. One: If they had Obi Wan win against Kakashi, you'd think they'd go the same route and have Vader take the win, but I was surprised when they didn't. Two: That ending actually got me tearing up for Vader. Also Boomstick using the same pun he did in the previous match up with Kakashi and Obi wan is so in character. 😅😅
Dath vader would have crushed both obitos eyes seeing as they were both giving him powers. And if you factor that in obito would be locked out of sage of six paths and the fight would go to vader
@@jackolantern147 and that is a HUGE difference. If Obito wasn't allowed the Rinnegan then Vader would win easily as chakra supply runs out faster than the force energy.

Vader was so badass in this, yeah. He had Obito COMPLETELY on the back foot in the first half, and was capable of keeping pace with him when he turned into the jinchuuriki, even coming close to killing him if it weren't for the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
That was pretty kind of Obito. Giving Darth Vader happiness before going for the kill. Even wished Darth Vader to find peace in the next life. Guess after seeing a mirror image of himself in Darth Vader, Obito can relate with Darth Vader quiet suffering and decided to go for the mercy kill.

Freaking amazing episode 10/10 for sure. However if I had to make one change it would be the ending. Now I don’t disagree with the outcome, nor the concept of the kill, but it could be tweaked slightly in my opinion. The change starts after Vader gets trapped in the illusion. He drops Obito to the floor and Obito takes a moment to catch his breath and looks up at Vader seemingly satisfied that he was able to beat Vader. Then Vader starts thrashing around hinting at the fact that his two sides are fighting. On one side you have his Vader side, filled with hate trying to break free of the illusion and on the other you have the Anakin side fighting desperately to stay within the illusion not caring if it’s real or not. Cut back to Obito he sees that eventually Vader will break free, so, reluctantly he backs up and raises the double helix sword still saying his “You are liberated from hell,” line and he crushes Vader with it. We get on more cut back to Obitos face clearing sad that he had to kill Vader. I feel this would make for a way more impactful ending but what are you gonna do?
Peopel can argue about the matchups all day, but no one can deny just how impressive the production has gotten. Incredible animation, choreography, STORY in a hypothetical death battle, voice acting, and the music???? Unbelievable

Obitos masks arent armor, theyre to hide his identity. they are probably the same material as anbu masks. the problem is - most people simply are not hitting obito. it didnt take a rasengan to break it, its just that a rasegan hit it.

I mean if obito couldn't phase through attacks I would have called bull, that was one of his most broken abilities and even in the show without those set circumstances established in naruto with kakashi, no one would have landed a hit on him.
only makes Minato basically instantly countering it all the more insane.

Props to the sound design team as well. Darth Vader's footsteps thumping like he weighs a ton was a great touch
Yeah I gotta say that even though I do prefer Vader as a character,it's still a great episode.
"Myself."

@@NimbusTMA better suit would have made Vader more physically stronger and faster, but would have also make him less powerful with the force.

Brah, Padme’s face under the broken mask was some crazy genjutsu moment.
Yeah. And they even said that the anger the darkside gives you has saved jedi and sith on multiple occasions.
Just saying vader has gone through stuff like this multiple times and broke through all of it
It makes sense, but now that I’m thinking about it didn’t Yoda do something similar in one of the comics and Vader ended up breaking from it and killing him?
@@kuribohbrother I don’t think Vader ACTUALLY killed Yoda proper but maybe a illusion of him. What I can say is that in the Vader series when he goes to bleed his Kyber crystal, the Force makes a active attempt to cause Vader to return to the Light, showing him visions of him slaying Palpatine and then finding Obi-Wan and begging forgiveness which Obi-Wan appears to do. Vader breaks the illusion, stating “No, this is all there is” as he pours in his anger, pain, hatred and fear into the Kyber crystal and causing it to bleed

Facts, Obito has the ability to suck you right him on contact. No way Vader can pull himself out of the Kumai dimension.
Like they said, once Vader is in the Kamui dimension he becomes just a swordsman with a lackluster cyborg body
Second missed opportunity - putting Vader into cocoon after Tsukuyomi, turning him into White Zetsu and letting him live the dream for eternity.
Would’ve enjoyed seeing Obito see Rin too even with the slightest mind trick . But yes 10/10
That's because Death Battle cannot keep the Force consistent. They nerf or buff as needed.
Obi-wan had no business beating Kakashi.
Well, to be fair, Obito had the 10 tails power. Vader was pretty much dominating the fight until then and very likely would've won otherwise.
Dath vader would have crushed both obitos eyes seeing as they were both giving him powers. And if you factor that in obito would be locked out of sage of six paths and the fight would go to vader

I think this is the first time a Death Battle has left me with the feeling of "that was beautiful".
Somebody hasnt seen Homelander vs Omni Man 😹🙏💯
calm down, kiddo
@@mihaimercenarul7467 let me guess, are you salty?
@@sted21 nope, I just told you to relax, it's just a normal fight
This animation is insane. Good work to whoever did it!
Apparently, it’s Devil Artemis (and someone else)
Not joking lol, check the credits.
Its aight, not in love with it
@@ICTON123 That would explain why it doesn't look bad but still not up to par with how I remember Death Battle (it's been a while since I've watched one of these).
Cringe
I Love How Obito Was Honorable About Darth Vader‘s Death. He Showed Respect To Darth Vader. Congratulations To Obito 😎😎
He liberated Anakin from his endless cycle of hatred and wished him peace.
@@ericdalhoff3507 Facts 😎😎
@@chrisdash5917 I love the appearance of Hayden Christensen.

I think this and Magneto vs Tetsuo where the victor wanted the defeated to find peace in the end. Also easily one of the best battles in a long time!
Momo Minamoto vs Asuka, Dragon Kid vs Mikoto Misaka and Azusa Aizawa vs Elaina would top this battle if death battle actually realized to do better Underrated MUs.
This is basic in terms of excitement cuz it's decent
Wow. Who'd have thought?
Don’t forget Jonathan vs Tanjiro, hits us right in the feels at the end there😢
The storytelling in this fight is beautiful, also ERB’s Vader made an appearance episode is GOATED! Great fight and outcome
Wait when?
@@kcuf_adin those little picture things before the fight started.
@@romeoaifesili5931 oh, thanks
I like that recent death battles have been showing a level respect from the opponent after they win
May be it's just me but killing Vader via exploiting his affection for Padme is kinda disrespectful. Couldn't give my boy a warrior's death.
@@alexheller5602maybe. but Vader's suffered as a warrior under the boot of a man that abused him, physically and emotionally. a warrior's death may be honorable for most, but for someone like Vader, dying happy with your final thoughts that of your beloved wife and a glimpse at what you two could have been was his best gift
@@Jaded_Jinx meh, her face in the last frame is smiling unnaturally, fells like Obito is mocking Vader with her, I don't see any respect.
@@alexheller5602i don’t think the caster of the infinite tsukoyomi has any control of the dreams the people have, madara for example couldn’t possibly see or control thousands if not millions or billions of peoples dreams, only making the functions that the person can think of their best life lived forever.
Atoms death wasn’t respectful at all he was killed for not knocking when meeting ant man
May James Earl Jones the original voice of Darth Vader. He may be gone but at least he now has successors to continue his legacy. Sayonara to you, Dark Lord
