The composition sample Aristide (rouen) is the best of all samplesets ever!!! The best CC sound etc.!This is also beautiful! But I like the organ off Nancy more in real!! Nancy is not a completely Cavaillé-Coll organ, but is very impressive sound. J. Vexo played so well!! Look his videos!! Thanks for this video
I somewhat agree. Nancy sounds great but is too wet. I play the Aristide composite sample-set from Christoph Schmiz and love it. For example listen to my Hauptwerk Aristide version: th-cam.com/video/o5X6JYZWnSE/w-d-xo.html with the real organ version: th-cam.com/video/5sQnla1gODY/w-d-xo.html
Marvellous demonstration of this organ, and you do it so well giving us snippets of your repertoire. You have convinced me that I should get this sample! I’ve watched this video many times over.
I was curious how far Hauptwerk and third party organs had progressed and downloaded the Hauptwerk trial and the Nancy demo, and getting this to work with my random assortment of midi keyboards, sound card, and such, was incredibly easy, and the default sounds included in the Nancy demo are magnificent, together with the sounds of the organ's air supply and the various mechanical clunks of setting and clearing things like coupling and other pedal and stop movement sounds, was astonishing. If lots of people buy this organ sounds set, and hauptwerk, and those funds from this organ's sounds help restore it, so much the better. Then the people enjoying its beautiful sound in their homes will also keep the organ around so that future generations can hear it.
A whole world of excitement, choices and tinkering awaits you. BEAUTY IN SOUND should be your go-to organ channel for all-things Hauptwerk! Lots of tutorials coming your way over the comings months.
What a fantastic demonstration! Thank you for this - and really helpful and informative chat - gained a lot of insight into this organ and its history. Thank you for doing this!
A very good demonstration of a very good organ. I wonder if they will use the Hauptwerk organ while the real one is overhauled, to me it would make sense. Are the Hugo stop settings adjustable? I noticed they appear to be set to random tuning and volume.
I presume this was recorded on Hauptwerk 6, or possibly even 5. I wonder if you've done any videos comparing sound in older versions of Hauptwerk to the latest version 7?
Cavaillé-Coll did more tricks like the Grand Orgue and Bombarde.....In St Sulpice they're called Grand Orgue...and Grand Choer,....basically they are the Combination stops of the Main Manual ( the Great) but divided over 2 manuals...they're on the same level in the organ Case behind each other..(so 2 windchests)....more Interesting is Rouen,.....where you have the same thing, only there the Bombarde is on 4th Manual......what you mostly see is a Grand Orgue with a pedale for introducing the combination stops on 1 manual....yet again,...they are still divided over 2 windchests
no worries....any questions....just ask.....I worked for the oldest company in the Netherlands that ( founded in 1855) has a history going back to working with Cavaillé-Coll, closely together at that time....in fact the chief of the technical division Here became CC's technical supervisor in Paris.....he never left Paris again as far as I know......the Company still is here, and they just made from zero a number of brand new Barker machines for a partially new organ....and by that I mean,...not ordering any parts from some factory Besides that,.....How you name a Manual,.....it's just in a Name...not what it does
Question for Richard... what soundcard are you using, and more importantly, did you use it's equalizer to amplify certain freq ranges or dampen/soften others. If so could you share some of those specs. I have the set as well, but it sounds rather 'bassy' to my ears... your's sounds much brighter. Thx in advance.
It tries to solve the problem of Hauptwerk organs being too perfectly in-tune. In real life, pipes often fall out of tune and often various ranks of pipes are fractionally out of tune with another rank. Pipe organs are tuned by human ears, whereas digital organs are automatically tuned by a computer algorithm. By 'detuning' digital organs, it attempts to humanise the tuning to make them sound more authentic. An example of Nancy would be to listen to my Durufle video from 22nd May, and then my Guilmant video from 2nd June. Durufle was recorded be 'detuning' was incorporated, whereas the Guilmant had the detuning element active. Can you spot the difference?
@@beautyinsound thank you for taking the trouble to reply. Yes I can detect a difference. I still find it a little confusing, however. You seem to be stating a preference for an organ which is just slightly out of tune! I thought the whole point of Hauptwerk is that samples are taken - presumably on a "good" day, when the organ is nicely in tune - and that that is exactly what you hear. I wasn't aware that the Hauptwerk software performs "tuning" on the samples.
Thorough demonstration of a fantastic sample set by an accomplished organist but somewhat tarnished by background baby crying and a cat jumping on organist. bassieredspecial asked a good question about the sound card. Grabowski seems to think that a CPU could alter the sound quality Is Hauptwerk Version V being used. It supposedly has a improved audio. Were there any tweaks like equilization, etc.? I have the Sonus Paradisi Caen sample set (almost the same stop specification) but the the Nancy sounds better. Why it sounds better is the big question. Either the microphone placement, improved Hauptwerk audio, sound card, etc. Out of the box, the Nancy organ does not sound like McVeigh's demo. Why is that ?
I'm using the latest version of HW and the latest version of Piotr's Nancy. Don't compare like-for-like over TH-cam - it's not a fair comparison. There are so many variables at play, eg sample audio perspectives, personal tweeks to individual ranks, 24-bit audio, video/audio rendering, uploading quality to TH-cam. I'm very glad that you think my audio sounds better than Nancy out-of-the-box. I spoke (waffled, actually) about this later in the video (from around here 1:23:23) where I say that most organs out of the box don't sound great, and that lots of tweeking is required to find that sound which suits the individual organist. For an online performer like me, this begs the question: "am I finding a sound that I like, or a sound my audience will like?". That's the secret to the success and high quality audio of my videos ;)
@@beautyinsound Orchids like that are normally sold in flower. When the flower dies, only cut the top bit of the flower stem off, just over the node where the second-bottom flower was. Given enough light and not too much water, there should be new flowers growing on the stem within 6 months. (Easiest way to water phalenopsis is to plunge the pot in water once a week for 10 minutes. Only let the water come 1/2 to 2/3 way up the pot. Let it drain for half an hour then put back where it was.) No midday sun, but an East (or West) window works well, or close to one.
The Vierne performance is one of the best I have ever heard. Fantastic choice of registration and a great tempo for the acoustic of Nancy. Bravo!!
Thanks David!

There are some Hauptwerkers here who are also into racing sims here 😏
Nice demo of what looks an epic sample set.
I wonder if theres anyone into HW and also into flight simulation. :-) After all both are simulating something real.
