    I'm the one that mentioned about the Kadrons in the last video,, I have set of them got them in the new in the early 90 ty's I've changed the linkage up I put heim joints on it ran great. Since then I put on Kaddy shacks linkage on. Cleans it up a lot and looks really good.. These carbs have been on my rail buggy, I've started out with a 1600 then 1680 this engine I put forty valve heads on and a 110 engle cam. Now I run a 1835 with the same cam and heads. I did change the jet size from a 130 to a 140 and it run great I haven't changed the ventri in it yet It still the 28 in it.. Kaddy shack said to I should be at a 160 jet with 32 ventri. Anyway thank you for posting a little about the carbs! Keep up the great fun video's!!

      Thank You for suggesting this video. Sounds like you have a great ride. I don't know about you but I like the smaller venturi's for putting around exploring things. My body can only take so much of the pounding and its just as much fun to crawl around as it is to run wide open... Take Care and keep the rubber side down.

      @@TheEZGZ I love the quirks of the Kadron. The linkage is the worse part. The fact you can replace the the throttle plate assemblies is great. Really cheap.
      I built a 2074 for a 1970 Bus one time for a customer. CB Cheater cam, 40x35.5 043 heads. Single quiet pack, 009. It would pull the Grapevine in 4th gear. My customer loved it. Never needed adjustments.

    The synclink throttle system is a bad ASS system. It's like having a normal modern throttle feel on the pedal. Like butter!! And so EZ to adjust. I have it on my 2276 and I absolutley love it!!! I need to get my Kaddies set up for the altitude... I think I also need to work on the accelerator pumps a bit... I've got a flat spot on take off.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can check your spark timing with a timing light that might help. We generally like to run more timing up here. With a 009 distributor I Check my full advance to 34 BTC that usually gives me 12 BTC at idle. Make sure your ignition is all good. If that seems to help and your still running points. Switch to a pertronix ignition modual shop.kaddieshack.com/PERTRONIX-IGNITOR-Electronic-Ignition-For-009-050-Distributors-1847A.htm?categoryId=-1
      Turn the screw counter clockwise on your accelerator pump rod to reduce fuel. Be sure and look down the carb throat and make sure your getting a strong squirt on both carbs and it look about the same.

    Keep up that good Info Ez, still working on my single carb set up on my 1835... need a fuel regulator and floats were set. Still have a stutter 2000-3000. After that it’s fine.. keep you posted.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good luck! By 2000 RPM you should be pulling on your main jet so it kinda sounds like you might have to fatter on the main. If you raise the float level a tad to high and it runs better that means we are on the right track. A inexpensive Vaccum gauge tester also reads low pressure if you get the right model. 3 PSI is the sweet spot.

    • @patar7999
      @patar7999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEZGZ that’s what I was thinking too, got lots of jets to mess with now, I lowered the floats to 12- 28mm for off-roading, First things first. I got the heater low profile cb manifold to put on. Fuel regulator which is priority before I go further! I can drop my vents to 28. 30 mm that is in it now. 44 carb. My cam I know won’t idle smooth adv 290... kinda between 110 and 120 cam. when I pull the old junky non heated manifold off, I well check the progression ports and make sure my throttle blade is before em. Plus side I do have f7 emulsions and zero bypass screw in. I’ll report back. This is my first VW and it’s a baja Ive built.

    Where would we be without Kadron....?The company did a lot of research in the early 80's and came up with a kit that was fit for domestic drivers as well as the racer!
    Back in the day Kadron also launched a range of header exhaust's to go with the their twin solex carb kit....The hot set up back then was Twin Solex H40 Kadron kit, a Kadron 'K300' exhaust and some bolt up 1.25:1 rockers.....a complete bolt on performance kit......The carb kit got a bad rep for the 'clip' on linkage and the early kits had Steel manifolds, some failed at the welds and cracking was reported. many people were left on the side of the road because the linkage failed or the steel manifold failed. Kadron didnt give up, they then produced a aluminium intake manifold and solved that problem.
    Shame, had the linkage issues was never really solved by Kadron, had they designed a cross bar type........I think Kadron would have ruled for much longer! And as you say, simple and affordable to fix, in keeping with the aircooled way of thinking.

    Hey EZGZ another great video. For what it's worth ill share my experience with running a single kadron on a vw engine. When I first built my supercharged engine with a little amr500, I originally had a Rochester 1 barrel off of my dads 250 straight 6. I got it to idle but trying to drive it would stumble and cough and it only had 1 jet and I was much more familiar with a solex or weber so I made an adapter plate and put one of my single kad's on it. I was able to drill up the idle and main jet to where it drove really nice part throttle and wide open then ordered a set of proper jets. The main issue I had was the cruise air fuel ratio, it would go pig rich and only get about 8 mpg. No matter which jet I changed it would either be too lean on light acceleration or to lean wot in boost. I even tried removing the venturi but I summed it up to being too strong of a draw on the main's venturi since it was designed to feed only 2 cylinders and now I was giving it double duty plus the suck of a supercharger underneath it. I ended up putting the Rochester back on it and drilled the jet up a couple sizes and it was as close to perfect as one could ask(back up to high 20's mpg and almost perfect afr, almost like efi) the only downside was the bowl would seep fuel. It was a fun project and great to learn from.
    As far as dual kaddies go I would agree they are a great set of carbs but nothing compares to the king idf! Have a good one thanks for the videos

      I wonder if Dual Kaddy's on that SC would have worked. Your a better risk taker than I am. I've always liked the idea of SC over Turbo. We had an v-12 detroit deisel where I worked. I test ran it ounce a week. It had 2 superchargers on top and those were fed air from a big turbo. Suck the ID badge right off your shirt. LOL

    • @V8N8T
      @V8N8T 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that sounds like a air mover for sure! The nice thing about sc's especially in draw thru is they are pretty straight forward to tune a carb and that low end GRUNT torque is awesome even only at a couple pounds of boost

    The carbs that came originally on brazilian vw bugs (fuscas), buses (kombis), brasilias, variants, sedans (TL), etc., were Brosol made Solex models, ie. Solex 32 PDSIT 2 and 3 (2 is one side, 3 the other). There are 34 models also, and 32s usually came with 24mm venturies for stock 1600cc. There were minor changes on linkage, other aspects, due to motor type the car had. I think the Kadron brand is aftermarket US, maybe produced in Brazil or not, but the design has some notable changes, as per your models, and quality seems good. The original Brosol Solex twin carb linkage is a poor mechanism, with balls and gloves, being one fixed the other adjustable. I hate it, since I am always tweaking it for balance. They work great with no flat spots with SVDA distributors, but the vacuum is half of the 1600 single port, so it needs the right unit which is more sensitive. I made an adjustable vacuum unit to mess with, change spring, etc. The right parts, original ones are getting hard to find.

      You do have to do normal maint. on the linkage. They won't run great unless you give them some love now and then. Some folks are just better off sticking with stock.

    I have these on my 69 baja. This ties to the cam and oil pump videos. Did you say a fuel pressure regulator. I'm guessing I need one what pressure I'm I looking for.

      No more than 3. If your going lean try a 5/16 fuel line.

    Can anyone tell me if a set of baby dells will work good on a 1776. 042 big valve heads with small cam.415 lift 286 duration? I was told it’s not a big enough can.

      @TheEZGZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those baby dells are great carbs. They came from CB Performance back in the day. They were set up for a 1600 so your going to need bigger main jets. That is not to big of a cam. If you have any shims under the cylinders your going to have problems with the original carb linkage but with some ingenuity you should be able to get it to work.

      A new STOCK cam is the answer. Even with more displacement most of the time. More fuel, better exhaust. Leave the cam on the mild side.

    In europe those kadrons aren't popular, I've nevery had them ether. For the money and quality i rather buy weber 40 idf clones from alibaba china, because brosal don't make the kads anymore, and empi is trash. I have more trust in fjas chineese idf's than all crap empi make. Because empi also produce there crap in china, and they need to earn some money for there products,.. Empi carbs are lower quality than direct china clones. I had them both, hmpx over fjas china is a big deal. Had chineese clones 40 idf on my baja, never had any problems.
