- This week I show HOW TO clean and set up VW 40 IDF carbs for your Volkswagen Classic Beetle. This DIY shows the quality of Chinese cheap 40 IDF Carbs and the Insides. These are Not Weber 40 IDF, or Empi 40 IDF. They are Chinese no name Carbs.

I’ve used these for 5+ years on my bus. Once cleaned and adjusted, they will work great.
That’s good to know, honestly. I have my concerns with them. I hear about the IDF causing aggravation with the idle jets clogging up and things of that nature. I was glad to see this post.
great video mate . yup im aussie . ive put 3 of the 40mm down draft chinese webers on 3 harleys in the last 4 yrs n have not had one problem with them .even after i strip them down n powdercoat the body they have run great .keep the videos coming ....btw google peter keegan if you want to see a very quik vw from the 70/80s in australia
I am ready to tune my dual 40idf knock-offs. I've never setup a dual carb system before. This will be interesting.
Ive been running them for over a year now. Just replaced all the internals with a radke kit. So far work fine. But i still want real webers 😂
Thanks for the video slade.
good video! cant wait to see how wait to see how they run
Nice tutorial, those carbs look nove
Slade, I've been running chinese clone twin 40s on my red bug for 3 years, IMHO they are awesome mate. The only thing I changed out was floats for the genuine weber items, this was due to the chinses ones sticking every now and then. Since that point they've never skipped a beat. And as a footnote, it was me that mentioned painting underneath rubber trim rails....lol... how could you forget me...
Keep on keeping on buddy
Dave
I could never forget you brother! I’m pulling those rails off tomorrow. Since they’re already bent into shape that’s kind of a bonus so I guess I didn’t waste my time. Some of these had no numbers on the air jets or anything. But the castings look absolutely fine to me. I just may have to buy a few things to make them right. But they were free.
@@SladesVWBeetle yeah change internal component, jets etc to weber and I'm sure you will have trouble free motoring
Nice tutorial, I think one day all do dual carbs for Sunny . Thank you brother
Thanks for the video
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
Nice!
Thank you, sir! I hope you have been doing well. I actually brought you up in one of my videos a while back. I hope you are feeling amazing now!
Interesting Guys , Thanks for covering these ,Those guide Rails came up really good Bro Pop rivited down
ive done the Boot ones on Bess got rid of all the Surface Rust and undercoated them , look good Ive got too do the Frunk next , i might be able too get away with out replacing any , Cheers
Ive seen these on Amazon LOL there Cheap
I love my single 40IDF clone. But I added all weber internals. It's a beast.
Let me know where you bought all of your Weber internals and stuff.
Great video brother. Excited to hear about the sponsor. Can’t wait to find out.😃
The sponsor information, is on the small paper in the beginning of the video.
I had a single 40 IDF on my mud puddle jumper years ago okay…and it ran really well okay…throttle response was really great okay…and it would rev to high heavens on a stock 1600
I think I will be investing into that tool to hold the screws and bolts
Truthfully it’s a handy little tool. I grabbed mine on eBay for 13 bucks. It is straight and Phillips
The complaining was nice. Proves you're genuine.
PS I think it was nice to see you have a gripey side 😂 Not the typical Slade. BUT those carbs do look decent. I've seen some through the years much worse
I can't get excited about Chinese carbs even with the low price. Money in short supply but I'm going to have to scrimp and save for higher quality.
the air jets are marked. I did not see you show air's. So i'm thinking you see the jet holder, thinking those are jets. The air jet is inside of the jet stack. in the top of the F 11 tube
I am very new to the IDFs. I just know how to break them down and clean them. And set them.
I always ran 34 Webers, they were my favorite. I will take another look at these thank you very much.
G'day,
I've found that even the jetting from Weber can be hard to read. The stamping can be so faint you can't see it.
But I find a jeweller's magnifying glass fixes this problem.
✌️ Peace
Do you know what I did? I bought a magnifying glass while I was at Walmart. Guess what, It didn’t do anything. 🤷🏻♂️
It wasn’t even magnified. Got a love Walmart.
I’ll stop and get a better one somewhere
I could have used this video a couple of moths ago😂
Nice information. 👍 Those look like 44 idf. Either way 40 or 44 work the same way.
Is there a way for me to check them for that? 40 or 44? I’m not familiar with these IDFs. You must have seen something to make you say that.
I always ram to 34 Wb. But I was told they would not be big enough for a 1904, which I still find hard to believe
@SladesVWBeetle
The 44 idf auxiliary venturi are different than the ones on the 40 idf. Look up the photos.
@vintage76vipergreenromeovintag I will do that my friend thank you very much. They could have sent me the wrong ones I’m not sure.
Personally I wanted to run the 34 Webers. I don’t see why they’re not big enough for a 1904. But some told me their too small.
@@SladesVWBeetle
Good running idf carburetors are great.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle i’ll have to figure out what jets and everything that I need for my area so to speak. And I need linkage.
Hey Slade, would those 40s work good on a 1776 cc engine?
Yes, they will work great on a 1776.
As vintage76 said, yes they would work great.
I didn’t want you to think I was ignoring you I got behind on comments.
@@SladesVWBeetle Thanks
Is there a PA-Look style? We all know Cal-Look and Euro-Look, California Look(which is somehow different than Cal-Look), French Look and Jersey Look…but what is PA style?
No Decklid a breathed on engine with Rear Muscle car Mags and Oversized tires and a handful of Primer Patches on a relatively solid car?
Haha!!! I actually wasn’t finished with that car at that point. That was a test drive. Sadly it’s the only footage I have of it now
DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE CHINESE CLONES, OR HOW THE QUALITY IS.
Honestly.. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! Please...
