This is a true story. Small boy (2yrs) and parents on a crowded cable car that breaks and seconds before it plunges down, the parents hand their child up to safety. This is written by Han Hong, a well known Chinese singer/songwriter, who heard of this story and wrote the song from the child's perspective watching his parents fall to their deaths. She then adopted the little boy. This is so heartfelt and wonderful. It is one of the best performances ever. No one but Dimash could do this. More Dimash please :)
At the moment of life and death when the cable car crashed, the parents lifted up their children, shaking people“s hearts! A cable car tragedy, where both parents died but saved their young son at the last minute with their last ounce of life holding him up. It's extremely heart felt.
Once you learn the backstory of this song it takes it from being just a good performance into a complete tear summoning masterpiece. 😰

He is going to transform the whole of the art of singing and is already doing so by combining opera with pop, traditional, everything... He will be a benchmark for future generations..... and will one day be called the GOAT.

In 1999, a cable car accident took the lives of 14 tourists in China.
One couple lifted their son out of the falling cable car to safety, but their action meant they were unable to survive the accident.
Han Hong wrote 'Daybreak' to commemorate the couple's sacrifice for their child and later, she adopted the orphan.
Dimash sings the song in the original Mandarin, from the point of view of the child.

The intro to the Gloria Wu treatment of the performance on Singer 2017 not only has the back story to the song, but also covers how Dimash lost his voice the day before having to sing the song, and shows him getting an injection to his throat. It also shows Dimash getting a phone call from Han Hong. The lyrics and mood make more sense when you know the tragic circumstances behind the song.

The first time he was performing this song at the show SINGER, he was sick. There was a problem at his throat. Even so that performance was impressive. With this Bastau performance of Daybreak, Dimash showed his real potential on this song.
I couldent belive his voce and performence in the singer competionen was so dam god when he lost his voice the same day!!! He dident know if he could sing when he went on stage!!! He found the voice when he started singing. Also the contestens backstage was worreyd for him and they showed that to. When he started doing high notes !!! Wow. The doctors told him not to sing high notes!!! After he had so mutch pain that he lost his voice again. He did that show knowing he could really heart his voice doing it!!! Thats the kind of man he is! Also in the mist and sorrow of his voice I must say this was the perfekt song for that problem...it added texture and sorrow in a way. Offcourse I dident whant him ta have that problem though.
In this situation “daybreak” isn’t positive as this song is written from a point of view of a real boy. He was in a cable car accident with his parents who’s last instinct was to save him while they didn’t make it. I guess daybreak was the silence or the settlement after the accident. The original singer and writer adopted that boy.
_Daybreak_ is hopeful, though. The parents died so their child could experience another daybreak. Daybreak is not just the sun rising, it is more _time_ and more _life._ Hope isn’t always happy, warm or easy to accept. In this song, hope takes the form of another dawn for a child without his family. Perhaps it would have been easier to die with them rather than enduring their loss. Faced with that, hope can be a terrible burden.
It actually makes total sense to me (her duality interpretation.) Yes, it's sad, of course, but it's also positive in a way... At the end, the kid was saved and had a whole life to live thanks to that sacrifice.

@@giovannigio3764 Yes, he is Terry Lins adopted son and Han Hong adopted him as his mom. I believe there was a show both Terry and Han Hong were on and when Dimash told her Terry was his adopted father she about flipped out. It was funny. Dimash and Terry are close friends that bonded duriing Singer 2917 when Terry Lin supported Dimash who was in a new country, different culture and could not understand the language. It is a long and difficult process for him, but he is learning Mandarin bit by bit. English, while difficult with his accent, is a little easier for him to learn. He is learning both side by side. He learned if he could not speak Mandarin, English was a good second language in China. Plus, God willing and the politicians don't kill us all, he will be coming to the states for more studies and to perform. I was lucky enough to see my first live Dimash concert in New York where he had his first ever USA Concert. It was heaven.

Everything everyone said about the Cable Car accident and that Han Hong adopted the 2 year old boy is on point. I just want to add that also Han Hong came to really like Dimash during the Singer Series and she calls him her 2nd adopted son. Dimash is so endearing that even people who come into contact with him professionally seem to attach themselves to him in an emotional way. Many of the singers on that show in China have become close to Dimash. Terry Lin also is gained the nickname Papa Lin by Dimash and they are close. Jam Hsiao and Dimash are like brothers. And Li Jian went out of his way to buy Dimash this super expensive Chinese medicine when he lost his voice on the show. And, He referred to Dimash as his little nephew. All his fans are protective over Dimash as well. It's interesting that he has that effect on all of us

Also Li Jian said that every performance in the competition is a piece of fine art. He was the youngest one and far away from his family. He looked very vulnerable at a time. Plus his loving personally hard to resist. So many of them felt some maternal/paternal effect.

You are confused about how to feel about this song because you don't know the back story
There was cable car accident in China in which a child lost both his parents as father pulled his son up to safety. Daybreak song describes the perspective from that child's point of view. And day break in lyrics signifies the beginning of new chapter in that kid's life.
Nina there are some songs, this is one, "Autumn Strong" & "Daiddau" are others, that you really need to understand the Back-stories Before you react. Otherwise you're missing the fact that the song is the story of a boy loosing his parents before his eyes. The incredible emotion (that only Dimash can do justice to) is the cry of a child for his mother and father. You need to either watch the Gloria Wu versions which includes which include the Back-stories or Google the Back-stories before reacting. It's only then that you will fully understand what an incredible storyteller Dimash is, and why the "Dears" shower him with flowers everywhere he goes. 😊🏴👍

This is the ultimate song of hope. Hope is meaningless without grief. Of course there is intense pain. The pain is in line with the ultimate sacrifice made by the parents. A reflection of the the ultimate selfless love. The Mother's sacrifice is meaningless if her child does not survive and have hope.

Daybreak in this song is the dawn the beginning of a new life for the toddler. The point in the songs story where the toddlers last vision of his mother looking back at him, smiling as his parents are falling away is both his mother's happiness of knowing that her child is safe & her unselfishness (ignoring her own impending terror) inorder to leave her young one with a pleasant vision of her not being fearful of moving onto what is coming next, setting a good example to the end.
