Nice video... it helped me walk through the oil change on my 09 YZ250F. I see your a Michigander. I saw Larry's Performance RC's in your intro. I also run there.
Nice video! Just did my first oil change in my 2008 yz250f. Just a little different than my 1974 250 enduro. Now I am ready to hit Busch beach down here in NC! Gonna be a fun year. 🏍.
I am going to help service my friends Yz250 tomorrow. Did my XT660R last weekend and thought it would be good to look for a video on the Yz because I have never worked on a full offroad myself. SO I see the small differences thanks to your vid. Cheerz mate!
Marshall Watson No, the breather bolt on the resevoir is small and would be a total pain to pour into, and yamaha's instructions say to put it all in the crank. It will cycle itself through pretty quickly
Lol who cares, if I can't find the right wrench in my toolbox, but I do have a crescent wrench, I use that instead of walking 20 meters to the bigger toolboxes we have.
yep, i've run three changes on it so far, around five hours a piece. Now, i dont ride constant rev limiter like a lot of pros, but I rode it plenty hard and its given me no problems at all, and no difference in sound, performance, or anything like that.
Dude thanks so much for this video just brought a yzf250 2011 and was stumped on how to change the oil I had only bled the engine and not the reservoir was absolutely puzzled haha thanks man
One more thing. I think i saw you stand the bike up straight when you checked the oil which is the correct way, but i didnt hear you mention it in the video. Might help some one.
At this video i used AmsOil 10W-40. Now I use shell Rotella T 15W40. A lot better paying 12 bucks a gallon intstead of 14 a quart. And I believe Rotella is better in every way IMO. I did a looooottttttt of research before switching
depends, where do you live, most importantly what is the range of temps (outdoor air temp) that you ride in? I would recommend full synthetic in any case, 10W-40 is the average best all around temperature oil. I use 10W40 in my bike, My dads LTZ400, and my cousin runs it in his CRF450F. That's what I'd use unless youre riding in extreme heat (desert) or cold (snow/arctic)
This video was super helpful but I have one question. I am trying to ensure I have used the right amount of oil. I have conflicting versions of at what level the oil should be in the window when warm, filled, etc. I did everything you have done in this video correctly except I cannot see at what level the oil is in your window? Help!
Shane Hayes i never use the window, the glass is always cloudy, inconsistent when hot/cold, and its hard to find a clear explanation of how to read it correctly. The bike holds 1.05L on a change, 1.15L with filter change, and 1.30L with a new engine rebuild total. If you properly drained the oil and filled with the appropriate capacity there should be no need to worry. as for the window, My manual says: CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn off the engine and wait for five minutes. 2. Place the machine on a level place and hold it up on upright position by placing the suitable stand under the engine. 3. Inspect: • Oil level Oil should be up to the full level in the check window "1". Level check window is not full. → Add 0.2 L (0.18 Imp qt, 0.21 US qt) of oil.
good video mate but don't you need to check the oil pressure by loosening the oil pressure bolt then running the engine for a minute or so then checking that oil is seeping out from that bolt??
yes, the manual does say to do that. Its obviously important to check oil pressure to make sure your engine is lubricated... if its not I think we all know the tragedy that can happen... ouch. I guess i just got lazy and assumed that my bike ran perfect all this time and shouldnt fail now. Of course, its NEVER a bad idea to check and you shouldnt assume things. my mistake. I guess I also figured it has as much chance to fail at any point during a ride as it did while changing the oil. thanks for the watch and comment!
nice video and good demo! love the intro. make sure you slow or speed the music a tad so it doesnt get picked up as copyright. And definitely replace the KX100 footage in the intro with the new bike footage when you get some. Cant wait to see some riding videos, that thing looks sicker than my 450 lol!!! keep it up!!!
Nice video but a suggestion. When you replace your oil filter, be sure to also remove the remaining oil in the oil filter compartment. That is typically where debris in the oil lie.
+Bunty Burger yep. maybe I did not show that too well, but most of the time, the oil in the compartment will drain out during the change and whatever doesn't, I wipe out.
it does look like it, but its not. It has a fiberglass exhaust wrap, which is real nice to protect the pipe from dents and stuff but the guy before me who owned it raced it it wet red clay conditions and when it slung up at the pipe from the front wheel, it bakes into/onto the wrap and it doesnt come off
Should the oil level be right at the line on the sightless? My oil level is way over the line and is burning oil. Wondering if the owner before me put in too much oil in.
thanks man! and not a clue on the graphics, they were on the bike when I bought it, The pipe is an old DR,D full system, but it doesnt fit quite right so it seems like the guy before me tried to put on a 450 pipe. I'm ordering a Two Brothers full system this spring.
Aaron Caveda The tranny/engine oil are the same on the YZ's. at least in my year.... Im not aware of if they changed that. As far as I know only hondas have seperate oil.
to be honest the more i look back at it the more id never done it. It was kinda supposed to be sarcastic, you know, but most people just see it and it makes me look like an idiot lol and of course its on one of my most viewed videos
WHEN U CHECK THE OIL LEVEL WINDOW ND ITS AT THE LINE .DOEST IT MATTER IF THE BIKE IS ON OR OFF . WHEN I CHECK IT THE BIKE IS OFF ND THE OIL LEVEL IS RIGHT ON THE LINE BUTT IF I START THE BIKE THE OIL LEVEL DROPS ALOT DOES IT HAVE TOO STAY AT THE LINE WHEN ITS ON...
To be honest with you, I've given up all hope on the oil check window. mines so marred and clouded and faded i can barely see through it. Every time I check it it seems to be at a different level. I drained all my oil and measured out exactly how much came out and filled it exactly to the manuals specs, rode it for a while, and then the oil was so far above the window that i had to tilt the bike almost 45 degrees to even see the top of the oil/air line. when its running its too shaky and churning too much for me to even get a read. As long as the proper amount came out and you know you put the proper amount in, and your oil system is working (have pressure in your oil lines, oil is flowing to the reservoir) I really wouldnt worry too much about it.
Mike Werthman I know this is old but it may help you or you may already know by now. This bike is a dry sump, so if you check the oil level with the bike running it should read high because the oil is flowing through the motor. It takes oil from the reservoir and adds it to the motor. Good video man,
whats the best way to get a stripped crank case drain bolt off? ive recently bought a yz250f and cant seem to figure out how to get off the stripped drain bolt to put the new bolt in with the tight space between the bolt and frame
I did the same exact thing when I was putting the coolant drain bolt back in. I broke the head off. We got it out by drilling it out with a small drill bit, but be really care full because you can ruin your threads. Do it slowly and be suuuppper careful!! Good luck
My drain bolt on the crank case has about an inch between it and the frame so the only way to get in there is at an angle and I'm afraid it will hit the case if I try to drill it out.. Talk about a pain in the ass..
+Handendaer check your manual or an online chart for recommended oil weights for different outdoor temperatures. Whatever you do, use a motorcycle oil or other oil that is safe for wet clutches. THIS IS CRUCIAL! Generic car oils with the wrong additives and friction modifiers are not safe for wet clutches that dirt bikes have and can lead to trouble. As far as weight goes, you can usually go with 10W-40. Currently, I personally use Amsoil synthetic 10W-40 motorcycle oil and am very happy with its performance.
hey one question does the yz have to change the clutch oil apart or its the same oil as the engine? I saw a video of the oil change on a crf and the guy change the clutch oil on the other side of the engine
+Luis Alberto Gálvez lots of honda crf's have seperate oil for the engine and for the trans/clutch. The YZ (at least this one and all that I'm aware of) all have one oil compartment for everything so you only have to drain the one (on the engine case and on the reservoir).
Luis Alberto Gálvez Yep for sure, better safe than sorry! Take care of your bike and itll take care of you.... Hate seeing people abuse/neglect their machines haha
i got a 07 250f and this worked perfectly for me thank you bro great vid🙌
Fantastic! - that is exactly what I needed to know. Great, clear video, and well explained. Thanks
Thanks for the reply Mike. I really appreciate it! Oil all changed like a champ, now if only I could ride like one! Thanks for your help.
thank you soooooooo much for this vid! helped me with my 09! keepem comin!
same, I have an 09. Glad it works
Thanks mike for taking the time too make this great tutorial video. I just got a new to me 2006 Yz250f and this really helped me out!
Braap06250f always glad to help man, take care
Thanks bro you too be safe riding :D
Hey question I also just got a 2006 yz 250 do you know what type of oil you used cause I’ve seen to use 10w 40 and 15w 40
No music is perfect; Excellent video, very professional, well done!!
Nice video... it helped me walk through the oil change on my 09 YZ250F. I see your a Michigander. I saw Larry's Performance RC's in your intro. I also run there.
+newagemuscle2010ss Awesome! yeah I love Larrys, but am currently living in the UP attending Michighan Tech. Ride on
Usin this video in 2021 for my 07
Perfect ! Thanks a lot man. Everyone else skips a bunch off steps.
Good Video, love the step by step esp when it came to the oil filter. keep it up.
Nice one bro very detailed! Just started riding after about 20 years and brought a 09 yz250
Nice video! Just did my first oil change in my 2008 yz250f. Just a little different than my 1974 250 enduro. Now I am ready to hit Busch beach down here in NC! Gonna be a fun year. 🏍.
Where do you live at? Have you been to south fork? I'm from the Richmond area
also, Busch beach or busco beach?
I am going to help service my friends Yz250 tomorrow. Did my XT660R last weekend and thought it would be good to look for a video on the Yz because I have never worked on a full offroad myself. SO I see the small differences thanks to your vid. Cheerz mate!
Sebastian Deyzel glad to hear it, thanks and ride on man
+Mike Werthman could you pour half the oil into the crank and the other in the resoiver?
Marshall Watson No, the breather bolt on the resevoir is small and would be a total pain to pour into, and yamaha's instructions say to put it all in the crank. It will cycle itself through pretty quickly
Mike Werthman oh ok I didn't know
Yep, I was skeptical about it at first too but if thats what yamaha recommends and its worked this far, its gotta be the way to go
my eyes started bleeding when he used a crescent wrench
john edwards You should probably get that checked out by a medical professional.
Lol who cares, if I can't find the right wrench in my toolbox, but I do have a crescent wrench, I use that instead of walking 20 meters to the bigger toolboxes we have.
Who gives a shit
lol don't be such an elitist
@@Cam_B Its because he used it backwards, thats an easy way to break a crescent wrench. oh well
yep, i've run three changes on it so far, around five hours a piece. Now, i dont ride constant rev limiter like a lot of pros, but I rode it plenty hard and its given me no problems at all, and no difference in sound, performance, or anything like that.
Thanks for the video, great material!
About to change oil on my '12 tonight!
And dont forget to clean your ail filter! :)
Dude thanks so much for this video just brought a yzf250 2011 and was stumped on how to change the oil I had only bled the engine and not the reservoir was absolutely puzzled haha thanks man
hey, glad to help, thanks for the watch and comment!
Hey Mike just wanted to say thanks for the video, helped me out a bunch with my bike!
Thanks for the help I did my first oil change today man
Πόσα ml λάδι βάζεις;
Scott Wedemeyer huh, it never even occurred to me that it wasnt stock. Looked it up and its on the 2010 and newer yz250f's
Tanks a ton! I just bought a 2008 yz250f and wasn't quite sure on how to change the oil. Btw nice bike, I like those rims!
Great video, very helpful. The only suggestion I have is including bolt/wrench sizes. Besides, that couldn’t ask for a better video.
Thanks a lot! Helped me out quite abit! Just got an 06 yz250f and I just wasn't quite sure! Awesome video! Sick bike aswell!
Very clear procedure : well done and thanks.
I know its old, but great vid, answered all my questions, thanks alot!! Much appreciated. Hope your still ringing out that 125 BRRAAAAPPP on!!!!
thanks man glad i helped and you bet!
thank you. it helps me to change the oil of my engine.
Thanks for the video man very helpful and I also like your graphics on your bike
My favorite kind of dirt bike, the YZ four fi- two fifty ef
One more thing. I think i saw you stand the bike up straight when you checked the oil which is the correct way, but i didnt hear you mention it in the video. Might help some one.
yep. good point
Watching in Lincoln, England! Thanks for the help
Just used this fir my 09 cheers mate
Awesome video mate. Thanks

Stop putting diesel oil in gas engines. The additives are different.
Also, your clutch frictions will thank you. I'd recommend Mobil 1 v twin oil. You will thank me.
Good Job very helpful, and the intro is alright.
+Stephen St.Pierre thanks, glad to help. Lets be honest the intro is garbage and pointless lmao
how much oil?
Awesome vid and edits and filming and bike
this helped so much man cheers
thanks I got this bike without a book so u were very good
Thanks a ton, sounds good! I cant wait either!

very helpful video. I just bought the same bike. good, overview.

hey mike great video dude, do you know how much oil to put in if your only changing the oil? not the oil filter along with it.
Hey man nice tutorial it helps a lot. But my english is not that good so it takes 1,150 L with oil filter? Thanks a lot
Great video. I have a WR250f which is basically the same bike
good video mate but don't you need to check the oil pressure by loosening the oil pressure bolt then running the engine for a minute or so then checking that oil is seeping out from that bolt??

Great video dude!
What if your crankcase drain bolt is strating to strip before taking it off what's the safest way
very helpful video... thanks!
Hey bro good video helped me out a lot! But I heard you mention intevouls ? What are those bro?
Is that LarrysRC in the beginning?
Nice bike dude I have the same exact year
Thank you bro, your video was helpful
Glad to help, and thanks! I love it too :)
This helped a lot brother thanks
Should the oil level be right at the line on the sightless? My oil level is way over the line and is burning oil. Wondering if the owner before me put in too much oil in.
Can you clean the oil filter? Or do you need to buy a new one
Good job mate
Have you Not tryd mallosi red chilli oil filter ...
Nice video bike and graphics where'd you get them? Also what kind of pipe is that?
thanks man! and not a clue on the graphics, they were on the bike when I bought it, The pipe is an old DR,D full system, but it doesnt fit quite right so it seems like the guy before me tried to put on a 450 pipe. I'm ordering a Two Brothers full system this spring.
oh nice!
Thanks, this helped me so much. Btw nice bike, and also what brand of oil do u use??
Dustin Mosbrucker....amsoil
What type of engine oil did you use?? Or your most preferred
What size oil filter is it ? Becuse I can’t find it anywhere :(
why do you have to drain from the crankcase does it not all drain from the bottom since you put it in the same.
Could you post a video on how to change tyranny fluid
Aaron Caveda The tranny/engine oil are the same on the YZ's. at least in my year.... Im not aware of if they changed that. As far as I know only hondas have seperate oil.
Where did you get the oil filler plug?
Hey mate how are you finding the shell rotella t motor oil now? Still recommend it?
Thanks very helpful
no problem, glad i helped
Thanks 🙏
Funny intro!
to be honest the more i look back at it the more id never done it. It was kinda supposed to be sarcastic, you know, but most people just see it and it makes me look like an idiot lol and of course its on one of my most viewed videos
best song ever :)

What size and kind of oil filter did you use
what happenes if you dont drain the oil in the crankcase oil container?
yea it kinda does. but hey nice video! i needed it. thanks man!
And what type of oil filler cup is that?
Hey i have yz250f 2009 i will need a help it’s my first time doing it
whats the best way to get a stripped crank case drain bolt off? ive recently bought a yz250f and cant seem to figure out how to get off the stripped drain bolt to put the new bolt in with the tight space between the bolt and frame

Taylor Bissell Try cutting a slot into the bolt then using a flat head screw driver to get it out.
thanks I'll try that in the morning!
Do you have any clutch slippage with full sinthetic
thanks, glad i helped
Why is there 2 drain bolts?
Thanks!
What model and year bike is that front fender off?
Dude I have almost all the same decals in the same places on my 2010 yz250f! Haha
+Ethan Logan Nice haha I think they look awesome!
im such a nooob. but what oil should I use on my 450 to not to look up the clucth?thanks

would this be the same on the 07?
Do I have to drain the crank case even if im not changing the filter?
Jax Barbo yes
oh shit took you two kicks it needs a valve adjustment ! 😂 j/k j/k
hey one question does the yz have to change the clutch oil apart or its the same oil as the engine? I saw a video of the oil change on a crf and the guy change the clutch oil on the other side of the engine

Will this work for a 2010 model?
My 2011 doesn't seem to have a breather bolt I'm stumped
