  • A good 2zz Swap into an Mr2 should include the 6 speed C60 Transmission! A good C60 Transmission should include an LSD (Limited slip differential)! Let me show you what you need to do, to prepare your transmission for the swap and find out the fastest way to install an LSD!
I hope you enjoy this video, lots of effort has gone into it!

    Important Disclaimer:
This way of installing an LSD does not verify the Pre-Load of your Differential. Although in Theory and in various cases where I have used this technique it has worked just fine over 10s of thousands of Kms and hundreds of Race Laps, it isn't according to the Toyota Manual which suggests a Pre-Load check with a much longer process. Use this LSD installation technique at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for damage caused to your transmission!
Now that we got that out of the video, ENJOY :-)
Swapping the 2zz-ge into a Toyota Mr2 Spyder (MR-S zzw30) is nice and all, but one needs to take care of the gearbox so the swap can be a true success and enjoy all the extra fun that the engine will bring! The 5 Speed isn't as well staged for the the high reving 2zz engine. This is why, If you can, try to swap the transmission too! Its well worth it.
Furthermore, if you do go for a 6 speed (or even the 5 speed) one of the most rewarding parts to have in a Midship car is to have an LSD Differential. This will improve handling hugely!
By Watching this video, you will have a full step by step Process on how to do the mentioned modifications to your C60 6 Speed transmission:
This is part one with lots of details and over 30minutes of footage!
I also finally got my hands on some new Camera Gear. A Canon M50, Lenses and a Good Microphone!
    Enjoy!!!
    Step by Step Process:
1:07 5 Speed VS 6 Speed Transmissions. Whats the difference? Comparison
2:42 Disassembly of the C60 Transmission: 6 Speed
2:54 Shifter Linkage removal (from 6 speed)
3:44 Removal of Blocking mechanisms in the transmission
4:45 Removal of all screws holding the 2 transmission halves together
5:00 Don't forget the 3 Screws in the bell housing
7:03 Crack transmission open (and watch out not to drop reverse pinion and forks)
7:28 Remove Open-Diff from 6 speed (discard, far away :-)
8:39 Do same steps for the 5 speed, almost identical process as above
8:47 The OS-Giken Superlock LSD! Take it out of the 5 Speed to reuse in the C60
9:50 Comparison: Open Differential and LSD (Limited Slip differential)
14:51 Remove useful parts from 5 speed, to begin outer seal
15:29 Remove bearing half in Transmission casings, 2x (in 5 speed)
17:04 Same process in 6 speed, remove all rings so they can be replaced (leave the shims in the right place and order, SUPER IMPORTANT!)
17:54 Reinstall new bearing rings into transmission cases and the shim in between
    18:49 Reinstall seals
21.04 Remove Crown from LSD and install the 6 speed crown to the new LSD
23:17 Don't Forget to Loctite the screws holding the crown to the LSD!!!
24:20 Tighten bolts to LSD at 77 Newton Meters
25:31 Install new LSD into C60 Transmission
26:15 Clean surface and apply sealant (paste)
    26:23 Close Transmission
28:41 Make sure to check if the Gears all work flawlessly
29:47 Tighten all screws to spec
30:44 Reinstall all blocking shafts and mechanisms into the transmission and tighten to spec
    32:22 Final Result
Thats it for Part one! Thanks for watching!
This is Part 1 of 2, of the Transmission conversion video I have made. In the next video you will see how to convert the shifter mechanism to fit an MR Car (the Mr2) and all the finishing details to convert your transmission to be bolt on and plug and play in the ZZW30 chassis!

Jesse, I have done this twice now. I still struggle getting the reverse gear and arm back in position. For me, by far the worst part of the job. The reverse switch has to be removed to allow the actuating arm to slide far enough to engage the reverse lever. While a video makes this look easy, it is not a small job, and it is almost impossible for one person to do it alone (transmission is also very hard to support securely in the proper position). I also recommend that an individual doing this for the first time reassembles the transmission dry (no sealant) to ensure they can do it properly and the transmission works. Otherwise you have sealant everywhere that must be removed again from two case surfaces if you make a mistake.

Hey Jesse, thank you for the very useful reassembly. i used it on my c60 transmission and i it works 💪but it leaks on the driver side from the new seal i put in. so i just watched you're vid again and notice that you mention it needs to go in with a certain depth, but i have a hard time finding that measurement. can you remember how deep it most go in ? its around 19:00 you working on that same seal :)

Since I open the gearbox i'm thinking about remplacing my open dif to an lsd but i have a question, in what transmission I can found an lsd that can go in my C60 ?

    • @JesseSpec
      @JesseSpec  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@tkflex2332 Yes basically, its a balancing act of inserting the transmission shafts in their holes, making sure the teeth avoid each other and slip into place and also manage to insert the reverse mechanism into place. Then tightening the reverse shifter mechanism bolt.
The grind could be synchro related if you ask me. If it only does it in those gears. I like OS Giken Clutches, they keep a good streetability but with great performance increases and reliability. Probably the complete 2zz swap is best...hehehe

Hi, you should set the preload. I decided not to. The new and old LSD are absolutely identical in terms of dimensions. Remove an axle and look inside the transaxle. An open differential has an opening, and only has a small rectangular plate between the 2 sides…light can pass from one side to the other. A LSD has a solid steel center section and will not allow light to pass through from one side to the other.
