I just discovered Steve Hillages music and when I first heard this OM Riff I was hooked.. I can't stop listening to it. This piece of music deserves to be heard more and played more by Rock radio etc. Finding this was great !
My Green LP took a total bashing every weekend back in my Acid years,,,,and I loved every minute of it
It was the shrooms we picked locally for me, but yes!!
My wife allowed me to pick Palm Tree Love as our wedding song. I love Steve! He was/is a major influence on my playing! Echoes Yum! And early guitar synths!
Love that Strat tone he gets!
I saw Steve Hillage live in Bradford in 1978. Joe Blocker's drumming was absolutely mind blowing!
The Glorious Om Riff originally was part of a track called "Master Builder" on Gong's "You" album. There is a tremendous trilogy of albums, from Gong's early seventies through mid-seventies period. They make up The Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy: The Flying Teapot, Angel's Egg, You.
Steve Hillage played on Tubular Bells. You can see him on stage.
My favourite Hillage album is Fish Rising, especially The Salmon Song!
One of my many favourite songs from Steve hillage
I first got the Green album in 78! It's a damn near perfect record. Like you the drumming from Joe Blocker just knocks me out. It's sensational throughout. A nice clean sound, with lovely double bass patterns on this track . A nice sax solo too from Nik Turner from Hawkwind. Palm Trees(Love Guitar) got to be worth a listen too. Every instrument perfectly blended with all others to create a beautiful piece of music.
Whole album is really good you should try listening to eloy
Very nice. CD ordered...
Watching you enjoying the band was most entertaining
I didn't think anyone else new him. Just started "collecting" his stuff on vinyl. Awesome version of It's All Too Much! Also, please please try Nektar. A Tab in the Ocean, Remember the Future, Early Morning Clown.
Nektar - Journey To The Centre Of The Eye is awsome.
Man, you were younger as was I. Hunting for Hillage reactions. Why not the whole album or Motivation Radio? Thanks so much for bringing this to more ears ❤ For me, my brief rave period in 92-3 was fed into by my love of his work. Then came System 7! ❤🎉
Love Fish Rising superb album, and Gong Shamal again superb, Motivation Radio
Ha! You found one I haven't heard! I enjoyed that quite a bit. I'll be checking him out. Cheers!
Yes! My work here is done!
Live Herald!
steve hilladge is right up there with guitar vibes and sounds for me and this album is one of my top albums good move mate..
It’s amazing.
My favourite is still either Fish Rising or Live at Madison Square Garden 1977.. still can't decide. Great stuff! 95% of your channel probably haven't heard of him.
My request because it only came out a few days ago: Haken - Veil
It is the greatest riff ever recorded!
You could be right!
Nice to see this one live on the air in 2019. Right with you!! We have lift off! Your face and gestures said it all. Love it. Take care (-:
Gong - Master Builder
Try Mahavishnu orchestra - ¨Apocalypse¨ (with the London symphony orchestra)
Aye me mucker, yer craic'n me Hillbillly lugs !
What scales would steve hillage use while improvising on this amazing track
Hidria Spacefolk - Badding
This is fun! More Mars Volta perhaps?
Bloody brilliant. The drumming st 8:20 damn smooth :D i recommend something i did before: Finsterforst - Finsterforst. Cause i wanna see a reaction to a slightly unusual melodic version of german pagan metal. Its just different thats why i like it :D really long song tho
WAs originally done by gong-masrter builder.
Hey Jim,
Recommendation for you,
The Butterfly Effect- Always.
Great and well respected Australian band,
Hope you're feeling better soon,
Take care,
Reece.
Oi Jim is back! Had been sick too. First day ok again xD
Hope you're getting better matey! That man flu is a bugger!
@@JimNewstead i have prophets of rage, mr. Big and sons of Apollo in my ears 24/7. Just rock the flue away with some of the best musicians on the planet :D
Orphaned Land - disciples of the sacred oath II. bonus info: Steven Wilson mixed the album, and here i quote Steven" the Israelish version of Opeth
If you like interesting drumming, check out Hashishshin, "Immolation".
Hey Jim, great video once again. If you are planning to react to some Tool, I would recommend Eulogy!
Kick Muck is really just a cover of this
Eloy - Love Over Six Centuries
You know what? Its time i recommend a progressive metal masterpiece: Sons of Apollo - god of the sun. The band has my 2nd favorite drummer and my favorite bass player :)
Dude, I think I've listened to these guys before.... Rather good, eh? I'll have to dig out something I've not heard before!
@@JimNewstead absolutly :) im always curious what comes next and ill keep recommending, just to give you options hehe
Jim, when are you going to do Disposition/Reflection/Triad by Tool? Or at least Reflection? It is long overdue!!
Procol Harum - Weisselklenzenacht (The Signature)
Привет Джим !!!!!
Hey, Jim! Good to see you back! Another one I've never heard of but enjoyed. Not too in to psychedelic rock but can see the influence it's had on many a progressive metal band (which is more my thing). And yes, it's hard to believe this track is really 40 years old! Speaking of progressive bands: check out Art of Illusion - "Distance". th-cam.com/video/4bE_ryqp3Ig/w-d-xo.html
I know,I know. I'm not a metal only channel though. I like to listen to everything (within reason).
Of course! And I meant it as no critique at all, just a relflection on my part. Keep up the great work!
Also can I add that for someone to make this music in 1978 in the UK with Punk /new wave being totally against long drawn out noodling space rock , was a little out of place for the time.
I’m so glad Steve Hillage didn’t cave into trends and fashions!
Its always amazed me how Hillage and especially this track are not much more well known. Maybe people don't like music that's too trippy.
