12 year old me thought this was the most awesome movie ever when it came out. Adult me still agrees. I never stop feeling sorry for that poor dude on the escalator. My man was just on his way home. Arnie is in top form but Ronnie Cox makes a great villain and chews up most of the scenes he's. His line delivery is on point.
"In 30 seconds you'll all be dead, and I'll blow this whole place up and be home in time for corn flakes." that's got to be my favorite line. Followed by, "Who told you to THINK? I don't give you enough information to THINK! You do as you're told, THAT'S WHAT YOU DO!

Seeing this in the theater when it released, I remember when Arnie was pulling the bug out of his nose, a guy in the audience said, very loudly, "Wow, pick me a winner dude!"
    Everyone lost it bad.
I was with a bunch of friends that night, we were there to cheer on Debbie Carrington (Thumbelina, the little person) who we all went to high school with.
She was the coolest and one of the most popular girls in our school, loved by everyone, RIP Debbie.

Michael Ironside is a freaking badass! Just watch him in V (the TV-show and the miniseries)! His voice is even freaking iconic, from voicing Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games to voicing Darkseid in the DCAU Timmverse shows like Superman: TAS, Justice League and JL Unlimited. He even voiced Frank Miller's Batman version in one episode of The New Batman Adventures (still part of Batman: TAS).

The first summer blockbuster of the 1990s.
From the director of Robocop (1987), screenwriters of Alien (1979) and
based on an short story by the author of Blade Runner & Minority Report.
The teaser trailer for T2:Judgment Day was on the early theatre prints of Total Recall and audiences were going nuts for that before the movie started.
I can't tell you how much excitement there was in this extravaganza.
Arnold at his best with supreme action, suspense and plenty of one-liners.
Amazing effects at every turn in every form.
The original score and main theme by Jerry Goldsmith is fantastic.
Not just bang, boom and pow.
But there is a story to be had with identity and all the things that come with it.
"Taking the red pill" or a means of returning to reality, this movie pre-dated The Matrix (1999)
    in using this term.
My mom still has the comic book adaptation by DC Comics (DC Movie Special).
Autographed by one of the people who worked on it.
There was a remake in 2012.
More closer to the original material (not set on Mars) and it wasn't liked as much.
But other than that, hope you guys enjoyed the ride.

Let me tell you, this movie was SO GREAT to experience with a full theater. We were all so into it and it kept us all guessing until the very end (and there are still questions!). Paul Verhoeven the director has stated that they tried to write it in a way that either scenario was possible: that he really went to Mars and did all those things or he had a schizoid embolism while he was strapped into that Rekall chair. Personally I lean towards he really did it because even the actual look of the girl he fell in love with - that he had already seen in his dreams - is the actual one he met on Mars. Anyway, tons of fun!

One of the things I like about this movie is that the ending leaves you thinking that everything Doug experienced actually was a memory implant by Rekall. Also, Mars has only 1% of the atmospheric pressure that Earth has, so if you were exposed to its atmosphere, your organs (including your eyes) would begin to expand until they exploded, just like in this movie.

The movie you're trying to think of with the uncrossing of the legs is "Basic Instinct" (1992) and it is a film by Paul Verhoeven starring Sharon Stone.
As for other movies to watch, both "Blade Runner" and "Minority Report" are based on stories by this same author. Also, you might like "Blade," if you haven't seen that yet. It came out between this movie and "The Matrix," and shares the style of both. (BTW, thank you for noticing the "red pill," which appeared here before it appeared in "The Matrix.")

Interestingly, that same year, George Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise to Bob Iger's Disney. They decided to cut their losses and minimize marketing for John Carter. They also stayed less time in movie theaters so that they can focus on Star Wars.
Disney believed they could make so much more money with SW they decided not to follow up with John Carter novels. It would have been a great series to look forward to 😮 if they kept going.

This movie is special to me because it was filmed in Mexico City and I used to live there and passed most of the location quite often, which are most obvious in the subway cars and subway stations and modern buildings but also in the scene with the Johnny Cab - it is the Insurgentes 'glorieta' metro station. The left some of the neon ads the same in the background.

Can you imagine what the original versions of these movies looked like before the had their even more violent sections removed so that they could get an 'R' rating?

(1:55) Dearest Toy, you are thinking about Basic Instinct (1992). It’s an erotic neo-noir thriller that features Sharon Stone in her most iconic role as Catherine Tramell. She plays a seductive and enigmatic crime writer who serves as the main antagonist in Basic Instinct. Ironically that film was also directed by Paul Verhoeven.
Total Recall actually features a few other actors who worked with Verhoeven. Im not sure if you recognized him, but Richter was played by Michael Ironside. He was the same actor who played Mr. Rasczak, Rico’s teacher and Lieutenant in Starship Troopers (1997). The actor who played Tony is Dean Norris, who was also in Starship Troopers as the Commanding Officer of Rico’s training camp and is probably best remembered for portraying Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad. Ronny Cox not only portrayed the villainous The Governor of the Mars, Vilos Cohaagen, he also portrayed the evil corporate executive in Paul Verhoeven’s iconic film Robocop (1987). By the way, Abby must absolutely see Robocop!!!
I think you mean a Hologram (15:00) 😂 No Abby, his real name is Hauser (19:12), which was briefly mentioned earlier. Brubaker is just one of his aliases, and it’s a reference to the character Charles Brubaker from the 1977 thriller “Capricorn One.”
I’m sure it was mentioned but this film is based on “We Can Remember It for You Wholesome.” A short story written by Philip K. Dick in 1966. There are several differences between the film and the source material. For example, the main character in the is Douglas Quail, but in the film it’s changed to Quaid in order to avoid referencing Dan Quayle, who at the time was the Vice President of the United States. In the short story, Quail is described as a meek clerk working a menial office job, but that was changed to a blue-collar construction worker to better fit Arnold Schwarzenegger’s build and persona. There was even a subplot regarding an alien invasion of Earth in the short story.
Before Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast as Douglas Quiad, Patrick Swayze, William Hurt, and Jeff Bridges were considered for the role. Total Recall was written to be very open to interpretation, even up to the very end where the audience questions whether the events of the film are real or a dream. That is something people still talk about to this day after all these years. Of course if the film ended with Quaid back at Recall being lobotomized, that’s something audiences wouldn’t have accepted back in 1990 with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which Verhoeven talked about in the Making of Total Recall.
By the way, I think Abby should totally see Dredd (2012). That’s an absolute must see for fans of action and science-fiction.

The movie starring Sharon Stone was Basic Instinct and it's worth a watch.
That being said, I loved how you two had so much fun watching this awesome movie. I only wish you could have recognized the talent here.
Rachel Ticontin was in several great movies but my favorite was "Fort Apache in the Bronx ". Opposite Paul Newman. You'll love it. Trust me.
Then, the ugly guy you keep referring to was Michael Ironside. Great, great villain actor. Best known for "Scanners" another recommendation.
Runny Cox was also in Robocop best known as Dick Jones. Ronny has appeared in so many classics like the Car. With James Brolin.
Great, great actors with very many works under their respective belts. They dominated the 70s and 80s.

You were right about the practical effects and miniatures. The train going to the base was a miniature, and inside was even smaller miniatures, including the TV screen, which worked.
I got to hang out with Robert Costanzo, who played the guy he worked with and led the team to kill Quaid. We were in Nashville, Tennessee, and started out at the Wild Horse Saloon before heading back to the blues clubs. When we were walking up the street Robert pulled up beside us in his Cadillac and started doing a driveby scene from a movie he was in, word for word, before using his finger gun to finish us off, lol. I was with another actor, Robert Miranda, who was in Eraser, another Arnold movie.

37:40 Because there is very little air pressure on Mars, so the air in your body is exanding and the gases inside our blood will start boiling. We are normally under constant pressure that keeps our bodies intact and we are built to resist it, without that pressure, that is one of the most accurate theories of what would happen to our bodies in such a sudden drop to low pressure environment.
This is exactly what happens to deep sea life if they are moved to the surface, where the pressure is significantly lower than in the deep sea 😅

I graduated HS June of 89, and several friends had jobs at the Universal Cineplex in Hollywood, and over the next two years(summers), I saw more movies than I probably saw in my life. There were more turds than quality flicks, but every once in a while there was a diamond in the rough, and Total Recall was one of those films.
As a kid of the 70's & 80's, I grew up with the generation before mine movies, which meant stuff like Alfred Hitchcock. And my current gen resurgence of all things Sci-Fi, and Total Recall was the perfect merger of those types of films. While I don't think this was Arnold's best film overall, it is probably my personal favorite, as I just love the story and the crazy set pieces(a super fun ride from start to finish).
