@RuntotheMovies. Ladies, I might have mentioned or requested this before, but what are the chances of you ever reacting to 'the mating habits of the earthbound human?' Despite the name it is not an adult movie, is actually a brilliant comedy on dating from a different perspective. Unfortunately this is the only trailer I can still find that makes sense. th-cam.com/video/q3s9OFuEvhI/w-d-xo.html

One of my favorite quick jokes is when they are 'combing' the desert and Col. Sanders asked if they are being too literal. Dark Helmet uses his megaphone to respond standing right next to him but puts it away and just yells to the guys way down below doing the combing.

Great Reaction....... "Putting on the Ritz," "People Fall in Love Everyday"
George Lucas and Mel Brooks are Great Firends..... When Mel Told George about his movie idea, George gave Mel full access to ILM for the special Effects, The only Condiditions were "No Merchandise (No Copetition for Star Wars) and the lead could not look like Han Solo (So Mel Drssed him as Indiana Jones).....
Dot Matrix was an early type of printer for home computers, She is voiced by comedian Joan Rivers.....
Vespa is a classic european Scooter,

"Let's take a 5 minute break, Smoke 'em if ya got em"....... The spaceballs do not appear on screen for 5 minutes........
Mel Brooks like to play multiple roles in his movies...
Dark Helmet playing with the dolls was totally unscripted.... They just gave Rick the dolls and let him Improv/FreeStyle........
"May the Swartz be with you" was the slogan of Mel Brooks' Lawyer who was named Schwartz......
John Hurt actually reprized his role for the Aien diner scene....

    Toy & Tori
Dark Helmet is played Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis has a long career in entertainment. Then 1997, Rick took a hiatus from acting to raising his children after his wife died in 1991. In 1997, Rick became full time father. Then Rick is slowly returning to acting with a few selected roles. Rick reprised his Dark Helmet to voice the villain on the sitcom, The Goldbergs in 2018. Besides Spaceballs, Rick starred in Honey, I shrunk the kids and its sequel, Honey, I blew up the kid. In 2020, Rick signed on for 3rd sequel in Shrink (Blew Up) series for "Shrunk"

One of my all time favourite movies!
Rick Moranis ended up costing Mel Brooks "a lot" of money, since the crew (including Brooks) couldn't help but laugh during his scenes, most notably when he first appears on screen and has breathing problems.
George Lucas lended the services of his company ILM to shoot some scenes. The escape pod dropping out was actually a (once) deleted scene from A New Hope. He agreed to let Brooks make the movie on the condition that he couldn't make merchandise, hence the running gag throughout the movie. And he didn't want Lone Star to dress like Han, so Brooks chose to dress him like Indiana Jones.
Rick Moranis improvised the entire scene where he plays with his dolls, he was sick and had a fever that day and still came up with one of the best scenes.
The original title was Planet Moron.
Brooks had a bad reaction to the Yogurt make up and got a bad rash around his eyes.
The voice Dark Helmet has when his... dark helmet visor is down is inspired by David Prowse, the physical actor for Darth Vader in the original trilogy, and how he sounded with the mask on set. You can find footage of it.

One of the DVD version of the movie has the whole thing in fast-forward, dubbed "Watch in Ludicrous Speed". The Merchandising stuff is a running that Mel Brooks put in, because George Lucas OKed the movie and let them use ILM for the effects, on the condition that no merchandise be made from Spaceballs. Thus, almost everything in the movie is "Spaceballs the placemant", "Spaceballs the toilet paper", etc. I would definitely recommend Robinhood Men in Tights.

You guys are probably too young to remember this, but in 1987, when I was 9 years old, ABC had a TV show called "Max Hedroom", which was an adaption of a British TV show, with a "computerized news anchor". He would always glitch and repeat things and stutter....in the Pizza the Hut scene, the robotic assistant and the guy who directs the call to that was a reference to Max Hedroom. 🙂
Lots of good things happened in 1987....the release of the IBM PS/2 line, IBM's first PC to use the new 80386, the first PC programs that made use of CD-ROM, such as Microsoft Bookshelf (it was text only!) and encyclopedias on the Mac that had graphics, and also the liquid nitrogen superconductor (way warmer than liquid helium ones), three Friday the 13ths.....and, my personal favorite event of 1987, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was released! 🙂

Ladies, assuming no one else has mentioned it, the scene of Helmet playing with his dolls was totally improvised by Rick Moranis after Mel suggested he do that for the scene.

22:23 This is a gag. When Mel Brooks wrote Spaceballs he knew he would be sailing pretty close to infringing on Star Wars copyright. So he rang George Lucas and asked him if it was ok. They came to an agreement, part of which is Spaceballs couldnt produce any merchandise from the film

In Greek mythology there’s someone who eats themselves to death (Erysichthon of Thessaly - I just checked). I think he chopped down a special tree, the rightful owner cursed him with an insatiable appetite and he eventually ran out of things to eat (I didn’t check that but I think it’s right(ish)).

40:35 I'm sure you're aware by now, but just in case: This was a homage to ALIEN (which you've seen already) and this is even the original actor from Alien, so it makes sense he says "not again". ;))

Toy & Tori are the only reactors that I know of to realize the similarities between the Yoghurt's Temple scene with The Wizard of Oz movie: Princess Vespa is Dorothy, Lone Star is The Scarecrow, Dot Matrix is The Tinman, Barf is The Cowardly Lion, and Yoghurt is The Wizard. Good job, Girls 👍

Prince Valium was named after a sedative commonly prescribed to anxious housewives in the 70s - hence the yawning.
Pizza the Hut was named after the restaurant...
President Skroob is Mel Brooks' name backwards.
    Lots of little in-jokes.

If you want to continue with the world of Mel Brooks, be sure to watch Blazing Saddles before Robin Hood Men in Tights. I will say there is a Hangman in both movies that is played by the same actor.

Valium is a trade name for diazepam which increases a calming chemical in your brain and often makes you feel sleepy, that's why the Prince is yawning. His name is also a play on 'Prince Valiant'.

Mel Brooks actually wanted the opening spaceship shot to last over twenty minutes or even longer until he probably realized he was the only person to find that idea funny (to be fair I would also find that joke hilarious). If you listen to the music, it actually stops and restarts at different points because even the orchestra doesn't know how long the ship is...

Apparently, back when this was filmed you were allowed one use of the f-bomb and still get a PG13 rating, so Mel Brooks put in his one allowed f-bomb.

Hello Toy & Tori!😊 Nice to see the very lovely Tori again!🌹She should definitely check out a young Daryl Hannah in the comedy "Splash" (1984).😉 Tori was also right about Tony Cox (Bad Santa) being one of the Dinks. One of the Spaceballs with the hair pick in the desert is Tim Russ who would play the Vulcan Tuvok in future on TV's "Star Trek: Voyager". This is funny as there are references to Star Trek with the beaming and Vulcan nerve pinch.😉 The sexy nurse is Brenda Strong who would be known from the TV series "Desperate Housewives" as a character and voiceover for the series. The Twin ladies are from the TV commercial Double Mint Gum as twins. Felix Silla is one of the Dinks. He was in the TV series "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" as the ambuquad TWIKI, a walking metal robot. Great reactions to this classic comedy, Toy & Tori!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
