On a deer or anything really. Is it necessary to shave on a fleshing wheel after pressure washing or can i dry it as good as i can then put dry preservatives and it and mount
I dont know much about tanning or preparing a hide, but I would like to believe that I know a thing or two about pressure washing. A flat fan nozzle (somewhere between 15 and 30 degrees spread) would distribute the force over a wider area, such that a puncture would be less likely. It would also create a more consistent work, and cover a larger area in less time :) It would be the equivalent of scraping a hide with a scraper, but just with water instead.
Well I’d agree with that. I have quite a low power machine. Went pretty well but the skin was more delicate than I expected. Did a nice enough job for my purposes. In fact it was my own fault for too much knife and not enough punch in the skinning. Every little knife line seemed like an invitation to the blaster. But I have never done as good a job by hand. I will get a bit more finesse with the next one I hope.
Man i wish i had known this before i laid out 6 hides and had 6 sheets of ply wood inbetween in the yard- the next morning animals had gotten to them and fur was all over the yard, my moms had a fit! LOL took me days to get all the fur
@@WisdomPreserved hey, lessons learned, didn't know there were so many wild animals here out at night, LOL- bobcats, coyotes and bears were even seen in the community after that. Made me be more careful being out at night on the land. Now the turkey tails i had were mounted for me and i danced at pow-wows in the sacred circle with them- still have them on my walls,
I start with the most gentle nozzle and then increase until I get to the nozzle that lifts the membrane but is not ripping a hole in my hide. What PSI is your machine?
I am just getting into tanning hides and am looking for an easier way to flesh them. Thanks for the great video. I will definitely try this.
You are so welcome!
Thank you. Did you do a video on softening the hide?
Not yet!

The pressure washing should remove all flesh so the wheel shouldn’t be necessary.
That was so interesting! I hope we can see what you do with the hide.
Yes, more to come.

I’ll try that next time. Thanks for the advice.
Great video, just going to pop outside and try it out on a 2 tooth sheep. Fingers crossed!
This worked so well for me. I don't think I'll ever go back to a knife.

This is such a great method. That is sad about your hides.

What nozzle did you use on your pressure washer?
I have tried this and it did not work!

Yall ever pressure wash a buffalo hide? Jw how it would work on a buffalo hide
I haven't done buffalo hide but I imagine it would work well. If you try it let us know how it works.
