Being undocumented, which is what they want, and why they ditch their documents before they cross the border, because , as a ghost, they can wipe out their past, and take on any name they chose, and very often, they chose the ID of a U.S. citizen with a good credit history. Last I heard, a stolen ID can be bought for $3,000, which a cartel pays for and the recipient pays back triple, or loses their head, or a family member left back home does.
