This is almost exactly how my husband makes it (save the sugar sprinkled on top). His mom taught him, and he found that to get the real feel of the dough took quite some time. He was in his 40’s before he felt his matched up with his moms. He has since won a blue ribbon at our State Fair for his shortbread! Thanks for showing the real Scottish Shortbread.
Back in the '80s, my boss, who was from Scotland, brought Shortbread cookies home for me as a present, and I immediately fell in love with them. His wife had the recipe. I remember making them once or twice, but the recipe was lost. I recently searched for the recipe on the internet but only found recipes with powdered sugar, and I remember using plain sugar. The only difference I remember is that I was told to refrigerate the dough for an hour or so before baking. Thank you so much for the recipe!! And thanks to the American below who converted the measurements!
I am in awe/shock! That is the fastest most simple shortbread recipe that I have seen! I am so impressed, plus, - no mixer! I can no longer tell my kids I don't have time to make shortbread! THANKS!! ( a lot, really!! ) LOL! Plus- my but that cuppa looked so inviting!
So glad to see just three ingredients!! My grandfather and my grandmother (both Scots) always said that the only ingredients in shortbread were butter, sugar, and flour! To this day - this is exactly the recipe I use for my shortbread!
OMG! Just made these they are so amazing!! Thank you! 😘😘😘 For Us Americans I did the conversion Flour: 1 cup, 2 tbsp. Sugar: 1/4 cup Butter: 1/2 cup Bake @375° 15-20 minutes
@@WhatsForTea found your channel recently and I love it and your presentation. So nicely simple. I like to bake and I have made shortbread for many years. Just your simple recipe, same one that my Gran in Garelochead taught me. You know the measure of your shortbread, how tender it is! For the past couple of years I have been taking the mix to the crumb stage and then simply pressing it into the shapes I want at that stage. Into a glass pan to cut into fingers when cooked. Or a round to cut wedges. The gluten is not activated and tender, Oh yes. No rice flour needed. Keep on making the great videos. I live in America now.
Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe for traditional Scottish Shortbread! Our Mum was a wee Bonnie Lass born in Glasgow in 1920 who passed at the age of 80. She truly loved her tea and shortbread!! We learned about all of the fantastic Scottish foods from her and try to find and eat them even today. God Bless you and your Family. Rob Allen.
i made it today but I added lemon zest and then half dipped the shortbread with white chocolate. I think it’s the best recipe I have ever made. Thank you x
I have just stumbled across your channel and my heart is so happy! I could listen to you for forever. Your shortbread recipe is just like my Mama Bruce’s. In fact her written recipe measurements say to use a tea cup ☺️. She always made the fingers. Oh how I miss her. ❤️
I'm Scottish and feeling homesick. I watched as much for the recipe as for the accent 😅 My Mum used to make this for me. I was the only one in the family that loved shortbread. Thank you! Bless
Thank you so much for your videos. Love the easy explanations and I LOV LOVE LOVE listening to your lovely Scots. Sometimes I'm watching just because I want to have a little Scottish feeling ☺. Greetings from the Highlands of Bavaria (alpine region) 💙🏴💙
I have wonderful memories of warm, delicious Scottish shortbread. My high-school cafeteria had had a few Scottish women who worked there. They made the most delicious shortbread, I would get it every day. 😆 Kearny, NJ USA 🇺🇸
Nice and simple, I'm going to do them tonight for my wife and son. Gas mark 5 is 375°F (190°C) if anyone wants to know the conversion. I have very fond memories of Scotland in the 1980's. I travelled extensively on an old 500cc Kawasaki motor bike especially around Kilmartin and Oban and travelling beside Loch Lomond was a treasured memory with some of the best roads in the world. The best roads are the ones that are least travelled. Love your channel, and best wishes from Salisbury East in South Australia. Paul.
I have never tried shortbread because I thought it was very hard to make. You make it look so easy, I think I can do it ! I could listen to you speak all such a beautiful accent & voice,.
Ah yes! This is the way to make shortbread. My mom used to make this at Christmas every year. Every neighbor and teacher at the school waited to get their package of Jessie's shortbread. So simple and delicious.
It’s Christmas and this shortbread has always been a favourite of mine at this time. This is my first year making it myself and I was so thrilled to find your recipe. Thank you so much for sharing!

My boyfriend and his brother had planned a trip together in Scotland and would have been visiting this week. He hides his disappointment well. I made pub pies last week following your recipe and he was so happy. I will try this shortbread recipe as he has a Walker’s shortbread every evening while we watch Still Game. ☺️
Thank you, I'm gonna try that right now - will go lovely with the cold weather we having in the Kingdom of Eswatini! All I'll be short of is that lovely accent.
I just saw packages of Walker's Shortbread at Cost Plus World Market here in California and went nuts because I love a good traditional shortbread. I grabbed a package up and brought it home, dug in, and was in heaven. :) I've made it before myself but it's been a long time and buying was just easier right now. I'll have to make some more myself sometime soon.
I love Scottish shortbread. I can buy the Walkers brand here in the states, but I was thrilled when I bought several boxes of it during my visit to Scotland. Oh how I loved that trip !

I make these every week for my local farmer’s market. Usually three batches, but after last week, I’m making at least eight! They’re popular! Yummy!
So great, dishes I grew up on and have missed so much since my Mum is gone. So now it’s my turn to try these for my family.
