Самое лучшее исполнение этой сонаты которое я когда-либо слышал. Где-то разве что искры не летят из под клавиш, а где-то сама нежность в обращении с роялем. Широчайший диапазон при невероятном исполнительском мастерстве. И сколько бы времени не прошло, сколько бы новых исполнителей не появлялось, Рихтер - как яркий бриллиант во все времена!

Because modern pianists are raised with luxury and the help of mommy and daddy to help their careers take off, they might be very accomplished technically but they can’t get to this level of sentiment. They haven’t tasted real toughness, they haven’t gone through true hardship. Richter carries within him the Russian soul, the soul of a tortured nation that nevertheless keeps fighting and going forward despite the hardships. He is a true soul, a true human spirit, a rare occurrence actually. Thanks Richter for reminding us what humanity is really about.

No. 7 Op 10, No 3 was, oddly enough, the Beethoven sonata that got me hooked on Beethoven as a youngster.
I attended Bronfman’s concert 2 days ago, he played 3 Beethoven piano sonatas, the other two being no.11 & 23, I liked this one the most. I am 35, not sure still young or not hahaha

Richter, as I recall, also performed this sonata in 1960 at Carnegie Hall. I used a recording of that performance and the Gould recording to help prepare my own performance of this work as a music student many years ago. I had the notes prepared for that first movement but listening to the Gould recording caused me to increase the tempo...I got through it but included some notes not composed by Beethoven. Still, always better to be influenced by the greats. The slow movement I played in a masterclass in front of a world famous musician, I was intimidated by the occasion and gave a subdued performance. So, this work has many memories for me.

Interpretazione straordinaria!!! Richter emoziona sempre. In Beethoven è grandissimooooo. Quegli accordi strappati del secondo movimento....drammatici all'inverosimile.
E la sinistra straordinaria, nel primo movimento, che crea quasi uno suing contemporaneo , come avviene iuna delle ultime sonate.
E il mare calmo , o a volte imbronciato, dell'ultimo movimento.
Una meraviglia di sonata e di interpretazione.
Qui c'è tanto colore, che non ho trovato in altre esecuzioni.

Right from the beginning the music has a sense of direction and purpose. Attention is given to so many details that simply rush past in most performances yet the architecture of the whole is never sacrificed.

Nah. I think the first movement is underwhelming, so it's a bad first impression. The other movements are genius though.
Danny B. This is a fabulous sonata, but I don’t think it’s underrated. In my opinion the greatest among the early sonatas . Many pianists who don’t play all 32 sonatas are playing this: Watts Horowitz Zimmerman Argerich Fischer Richter because it’s so great.
Indeed. Richter plays it the right way. This sonata demonstrates Tovey’s point about Beethoven and “play” (Tovey compared the boundless energy of LvB’s sunnier works to that of dogs and children - I think he has a point, aptly illustrated here).
Richter is such a lion. This is how it should be done.
I've been playing this for decades because it is so wonderful! It's been one of my private pleasures (no immature speculation tolerated) BECAUSE it is full of joy and enthusiasm. And, BTW, Mr. Richter pointedly performed THIS ONE. So, if you have a problem with that --- why don't you take it up with Mr. Richter's spirit? Seriously.

jason percy nicely put. but he always played that way Had supreme self confidence and always came out victorious. It's not that he rehearsed so much , he must have rehearsed, sure,but to a point. What he didnm't have in his fingers once one stage, he winged. But he had done that since his repetitor job at with the Dasnce groups at Odessa Conservatory.
And anothert thing, he somehow adds to Beethoven's composition, nothing that wasn't written down mind you, but he adds something because he always nailed it, musically, technically , spritually......

Richter is still playing without the score at this point. But that will change soon; he acknowledged that no one can remember every detail of a composer's wishes, and he wanted to be as faithful as possible to what composers had created.

Im unmittelbar gehörten Vergleich: Igor Levit sucht in seinem Spiel zu sehr nach der richtigen Gestaltung und unterliegt dabei der Gefahr, die Sonate auseinander zu nehmen und sie nicht mehr zusammen zu bringen. Grigorij Sokolov sucht und findet überzeugend den Zugang zur differenzierten Ausdruckswelt Beethovens. Svjatoslav RICHTER aber hat (wie so oft) die notennahe Werkspannung der Sonate von Anfang an in sich und zieht diese auch beispielhaft durch.

Nein, er ist ein russischer Pianist, der in der Ukraine zeitweise lebte..in Odessa. Sein Vater war deutsch, seine Mutter russisch. Sein Vater wurde zu Anfang des dt.Überfalls von den Sowjets umgebracht!
@@gerlindeczech8524 Richter wurde in Schytomyr geboren. Schytomyr ist die Ukraine. Später, ab seinem 16. Lebensjahr, lebte er in Odesa. Odesa ist auch Ukraine. Mehr als einmal erwähnte er die Ukraine mit Wärme und Liebe, weil er sich als Ukrainer positionierte.

Surprised by the lack of voicing with the alberti bass in the second movement. Obviously Richter had the technical facility to execute this, so I'm curious why he chose not to...
beautiful. spectacular. Andras preferred this sonata over the more popular, and overrated Pathetique.
Well, the Pathetique sonata (the following sonata Beethoven wrote after this one ) has its star qualities too, such as Beethoven depicting the feeling of pathos (suffering) and the 3 wonderful movements, so I wouldn't say it is overrated. But, to each their own.
Richter just plays this shit out of this sonata. This is a “take no prisoners” performance.

+john evans You've written this on a few different Richter videos. Perhaps you should focus on the music, and look for Richter smiling at other times in his life, which he did often enough.
john evans - Rachmaninoff had a dour expression on his face whenever he performed. That didn't seem to dampen his abilities. Maybe you should watch Libarace videos if you need to watch a pianist who "smiles once in a while".
