    have a few questions here. 1. Is the PPI able to detect internal engine/gearbox issues? 2. Can the mileage in a porsche be tempered with and is it able to be detected in the DTC? 3. Does a black dirty exhaust and indication of engine issue?

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great questions 👍🏼
      1. PPI is akin to a physical body checkup as it's external only. In order to know the condition of the internals, you'll need to perform a MRI or X-ray scan which no workshops will have unfortunately. So, the answer is no, PPI can't tell internals condition.
      We can however look for abnormal running noises, rough/ jerky operation of engine & rough change of gears during test drives. Visually, you can also inspect the oil cap to see if it has overheated before, white smoke from the exhaust etc. This will be tell tale signs of internal damage
      2. Yes, there are instances of mileage tampering. And nope, it doesn't show in the DTC. Assuming you're buying a used Porsche around 5 years old, the least of your concern is the mileage. All that matters are the 3Cs, even if it has done significant mileage & tampered with but well maintained, I would still recommend to buy 👍🏼
      3. A dirty exhaust does indicate something is off with the engine. It is usually due to external parts of the engine like a sensor, oil air separator etc or something internally. You'll need to troubleshoot to determine the root cause of the issue as there quite a few possibilities 👍🏼

    Great informative video! But how do purchasers ensure that the workshop will report honest and trustworthy inspection results? I understand it's quite common for workshops to have a side deal with pre-owned dealers to just pretend to inspect the car and report that the condition is fine even though it may be a lemon. Is there any workshops you recommend that can be trusted?

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you enjoyed it bro👍🏼
      Yes, that 'side deal' does happen unfortunately. Hence, you'll need to find an independent workhop to perform the PPI. Preferably it's one you know personally, have high trust/ confidence in or is highly reputable 👌🏼
      Well, I do run a couple of workshops so it's definitely biased if I say we are trustworthy 😆 It can however be backed up by our Google ratings, highest ranked in Glenmarie in both stars & number of reviews. Do DM me on Insta to chit chat further if interested 👍🏼

    I read that the Boxsters are notorious for IMS bearing problems. Is that true? How do we watch out for that?

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't say it's notorious. It does happen & you can resolve it. It's more prevalent in the older 986, the newer 987 has much lesser incidents. Personally, I havent heard of any 987s in Malaysia having an IMS bearing exploding on them before.
      Tell tale signs would be oil leak, loud crunching sounds & metal flakes in the oil. But sometimes, it just happens. There's no rhyme or rhythm to it, however they can conclude there is much lesser occurence of IMS failure for cars that have the either of or both of the following:
      - serviced regularly
      - driven regularly
      There are higher mileage examples with more than 100,000miles with no issues at all. So, it all boils down to regular service (provided the IMS bearing isnt faulty in the first place). Hope that answers your question bro 👍🏼

    If a car had an body accident but repaired, is that an instant decision not to buy? Would a PPI show any more details on it?

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, that would depend on several factors:
      - the severity of the accident i.e. is it a scrape against a gate or a major collision
      - quality of repair & paint job
      - your expectation
      Tbh, I would say if it doesn't affect the chassis then it is good to go. The PPI will not be able to tell how severe the accident was or how good the job is as we wont remove the bumpers/ panels etc.
      An older car can never truly be 'accident free' as there will be minor fender benders unless the car is a garage queen all its life.
      Main thing is that the chassis is still intact which we can pickup during the PPI 👍🏼

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is what it is bro, the deal was called off as expected. We actually removed the tank to check the root cause of the leak as my friend really wanted this 3 pedal car.
      The seller actually agreed to pay for the labour for removal but in the end turned back on his words. So my friend paid for the job as he felt bad for the work that we did & as appreciation for saving him from buying what could be a lemon 911.
      Morale of the story, perform PPI for any used car!

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keataun352 Indeed. That's why some people shy away from buying recond or used cars due to bad apples like this.

    • @ThePorscheLover
      @ThePorscheLover  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ngkwdaniel Unfortunately no bro, it's a willing buyer willing seller agreement. The seller could have written 'good condition' in his posting but what is the definition of 'good condition'?
      For the seller, it might not include a leaking fuel tank. So tough to take to court unless there's a clear written agreement like the warranty terms when buying a new car from an authorized distributor.
