After interacting with Jason through this job, I can honestly say he's even more amazing and impressive to deal with directly. What we don't see in a condensed 45-minute video is great communication, rising at the crack of dawn, driving across town, and hour after hour of dedicated slog. Across weeks and weeks. No matter how bad it got, he never cut corners. He never compromised on what he said he would do, and he went above and beyond what anyone could ask. What a dead-set legend. I'll always feel like I owe him one.

Oh myyy yeah this doesn't happen overnight. There are still traces that can be seen where this was once a very well maintained yard with lots of different plants but over time with being busy, illness, aging, what have you - the yard would most benefit now getting all cut down. From that point getting it back to what it once was is definitely possible or keeping things simple so that the yard can be enjoyed again with little maintenance would be a huge favor to the homeowner as well as the neighbors. Great job and look forward to the next part of the video!

Why is it always the neighbors who get called jerks? Most likely the guy who lives there must be a real piece of S to not have a single family member or friend/person he knows willing to help maintain his property for him long before it ever got this bad. People who are friendly and such rarely have to deal with this issue, always somebody willing to help, but if you're an A'hole, good luck, nobody enjoys helping jerks.

I'm certainly not talking about taking his freedom away, but to just improve his life and offer some help. I'm all about independence for as long as possible. He might even have some pets that need help too. It's very sad to have an elderly family member in that shape.

Wow, you were having to shred down shrub overgrowth, in layers, as if it was tall grass. This starts to be interesting pretty fast. A fenceline re-appears, we are about to "travel" with you as you unfold mysteries and lost design features. Hmm. That place likely had nice landscaping and plants at one time but the overgrowth is so massive, that it takes a Restart almost to regain lost space, lost form, navigability, safety, remove pest habitats.... In landscaping, plants not only have forms but lifetimes, they reach points when they need to be trimmed back, replaced. If there are special memories attatched, things as roses and other beloved things can be put back if priorities. Also, sometimes what someone needed or wanted, as when they have kids, is not actually needed as the residents age or change interests. It can be a big rethink process. One thing there, as you literally clear the patio and walls and get light to the building, that will be a huge change. Good work and looking forward to the future videos of the series.

Sometimes we get so busy with our lives we fail to "see" the elderly or the sick and just see the trash or unkept yard. These video's show us, remind us, we all need to keep adjusting our perspective to see everyone. Most times it is not laziness but something deeper and more serious, that prevents these people from yard work etc. Thank you for showing this, for keeping it real in our minds, and helping them.

I am one of the “unseen”… thank you. I used to take great care of my yard, landscaped, put in trees & lilac bushes along with native wildflowers. Then I became disabled due to a genetic disease, I didn’t know I was born with because I’m adopted. My husband is allergic to grass seed & has RA & MS. We can barely pay someone to mow biweekly on disability payments, but all of my gardens, & the rock beds around the house (for water drainage), have all become overgrown. It saddens me to see the state of my gardens. I try best I can but severe osteoarthritis in my knuckles prevents me from being able to do much. Plus we have a weed here called “creeping charlie” that is sort of like a vine with purple flowers that grows along the ground & it just easily takes over as not many things kill it.
Thank you for reminding others that what they see now may not be how it always was, & maybe look deeper. I had a neighbor friend who was helping but then a divorce, becoming a single parent, & having to find work, her garden has also gotten out of control, & now she will be moving away from me to across town. It’s so easy for life to take over & we have to let things “go” so to speak. 😢

Very good work so far! Glad to see someone being helped out by your work. I do wonder how it EVER gets this bad. I live in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, USA. Whenever a yard even starts to get out of control here the neighbors complain to the city. A neighborhood inspector WILL come out and post something like a 72 hour warning of tall grass/weeds. If the property owner does not get it under control the city will send out a crew and clean it up leaving the property owner with a large bill for the job. If the homeowner doesn't pay then the city will take legal action to collect even if that means just attaching a lien to the property so that when it is sold the city gets paid from the sale.
Do these communities not have weed codes or are just too underfunded to send people out? I'm curious about the law(s) there that would allow a woolly mammoth to hide out in someones back yard. 😀

Wow! What a huge undertaking. Took years to get to that condition, so will take a lot of hours and days to get it back to a manageable lawn. One area at a time. That's how I would tackle it as well. Won't it be a wonderful thing when the elderly owner will be able to stroll through his yard again!! What a blessing you are to this family! Well done and looking forward to seeing the progress! 🎉 50:04

@@Do-U-Know-me00 😊👍 I believe he's in or near Sydney. Jason has a great TH-cam channel, always entertaining! I'm surprised the local council never fined this elderly gentleman as well. It's great Jason is able to help him out. This yard is nuts!!! Have a great weekend!

My goodness! I can’t wait for next week’s episode! It’s just so sad that our older generation (which includes me) doesn’t get help from their families. Must be a lot like here in America where families don’t live close together much anymore. I can’t imagine how long it took to get like that. But it’s going to look fantastic when you’re done. Which State are you in?
