Nah plenty of good ones out there. Muramasa, dragon crown, Scott pilgrim, phantom breaker battleground, odins sphere, River city girls and we even get a Streets of rage 4.
I actually played The Peacekeepers with an emulator when I was young, but it was the japanese version called "Rushing Beat Shura" or something like that. I'm glad to see it getting some love, as it's one of my favorite beat'em ups ever, alongside Final Fight 3 and TMNT IV.
About Ninja Warriors "This is the rare instance where the Super Nintendo game is actually much better than the Arcade game" Now THAT's what I call an instant-thumbs-up, I couldn't agree enough! Also, that Final Fight 3 segment definitely did the game justice! I'd have put it at #1 though, but that's just me...
Super late answer here, reason is that Ninja Warriors arcade is much older 1987 (I believe it is) compared to Ninja Warriors Again (1994) for Snes. But what you said is actually true, while Ninja Warriors arcade is surprisingly addictive and fun if you stick to it, the Snes game is so polished that it's impossible to not give it the medal. And now we have the amazing Ninja Warriors once again or Ninja Saviors (sadly they had to change the title in the west as the name Ninja Warriors was taken by the TV show). This version is the top one, with tons of new content and two new characters, it's like a dream come true.
I always have loved The King of Dragons and I'm so glad it is so high in the list. I got the game for Christmas as a kid and had so much fun with it. Favourite character is Wizard, I love how his spells keep changing every weapon upgrade.
Super Double Dragon was my favorite beat em up until I finally played it's Japanese counterpart Return Of Double Dragon. The deepest move set of any beat em up is why it's my favorite and it's sad no move set has been better yet.
Final Fight 3 is a really good game. However, it suffers from extreme slow down far too often when there is a lot of stuff happening on the screen at once and that is very often.
I have to say, the comment about Iron Commando and Punisher was essentially an exact thought I'd had like a year ago. I was always a little jealous that the Genesis got a port of one of my favorite arcade brawlers, and I'm glad I'm not the only one to make that connection with IC.
Totally agree with you. Iron commando is an excellent game and it is very similar to the style of play that The Punisher has. Therefore I am fortunate to have in my collection the Iron commando game is a gem of the genre of Beat'em up. Cheers!!
You should play the arcade game like I did the other day, I think you are going to have your eyes opened like mine were. The SNES port is great but the arcade has so many more touches to it.
I agree with Ken, the arcade version is better in many ways. ...But I think the SNES version of Knights of the Round is better on the SNES due to the better controls.
In the SNES version you get: Bebop and Rocksteady, Slash, Rat King... Plus a coulpe of stages that are not in the arcade version Don't forget the VS mode and time trials
Woah! Fucking amazing list. There was like 4 games I’ve never even heard of. Thanks, man! Much better than the usual list of games everyone’s already played a million times.
Turtles In Time was the reason I bought a SNES back in the day, so I agree with the #1 in your list. Two games I'd add to the list are Stone Protectors and The Combatribes.
Excellent video and good selection of beat'em up games. But you left out two very good games of excellent action and entertaining. The first one is Undercover cops with unique figthing style this game came out only in SFC and Arcade. And Second game was Combatribes. This game is entertaining and fun, and also had very good adaptation to SNES from The Arcade. Regards!!!
Ninja Warriors has the best soundtrack! It's in my regular music rotation along side regular music albums. I've never actually played the game but know the music off by heart.
It's good, but after playing it recently I noticed it kinda drags because of the lack of enemy variation, and a ton of stages that are a little too long at times. But I own a copy, and I love the franchise, so I'm speaking purely from a "how it plays compared to other stuff" lens.
Yes! It is my favorite Beat em up on SNES, even ahead of Turtles in Time. That is mainly because it has more mechanics, like the tattoo men who you have to block before you can attack them. And some ememies are really mean on hard. But I agree with J Myers that the game is too long. This goes for most stages. Plus, the enemies take way too little damage from traps.
I'm glad Peace Keepers made the list. It's one of my all time favorites. Ninja Warriors and King of Dragons are classics. I'll have to check out Sonic Blastman 2.
How did I not notice that you hadn't made this list yet?!?! Great taste in my favorite genre, SNES drunk! "Final Fight 3" is fantastic, and people seem to crap on it, for some reason. "TMNT IV: Turtles in Time" is one of my favorite games, period!
Quick SnesDrunk review before going to work! Well done, as usual. Can't wait to try some of these. Big thanks again!! Just a minor correction here, Ninja Warriors & Batman Returns are both single player only.
Anyone who never played Super Double Dragon, definitely give it a chance. It will seem really clunky at first but if you learn the game it is so worth it and such a fun play through!
TMNT definitely deserves the #1 spot. It's got variety (the vehicle stages), lots of different moves, it's got fast paced action, and heck it even has a boss that you can only hurt if you throw mooks at it literally, I mean what's not to like? And it's TMNT. Anybody who grew up during the 90s should like that.
Yeah, they're just seriously different, first one was more looking like a straight out bad comic book, but they sure learned from their mistakes with the second one, three characters to choose from instead of only Sonic Blast Man and nobody else, also, the game was way faster and this time you get to play as two players... Favorite character in Sonic Blast Man 2 was Sonya, when using her all out attack, she kindda look like some Super Saiyan mode straight out of a DBZ manga, of course, it's only her attack, nothing else, but the game itself is a lotta fun... Those guys from Taito seriously took it to new and improved, they adressed all the issues and fixed it all, not many game companies seem to fix up and improve the game....
I agree with many of you Undercover Cops should be included in any top10, but the list is pretty much spot on (even the order fits quite a lot my personal opinion). By the way, because some localization changes, The Peace Keepers is better on the japanese version (Rushing Beat Shura). Great video, SNES is not well known for its beat em ups besides the most famoust 3 or 4, but has many great games of the genre, pretty much on par with MegaDrive despite lacking a game of the same level as SoR2.
It was called ”Ninja Warriors Again” in Japan, so yes a sequel. It now has a new sequel on modern platforms called ”Ninja Warriors Once Again” in Japan, but in the West it is called Ninja Saviors.
I'm not sure why anyone would think a radically different sequel made seven years later is a "port". One of the playable characters is thematically based on the primary character in the original arcade game, and the story is basically the same, but that's where the similarities both begin and end :D I like SNESDrunk's takes, but the comments (including incorrectly describing the blaster meter) proves that he didn't give it much of a chance, despite obviously liking it. It's really a masterful game, and a blueprint for how to design a perfect action game.
ah, beat 'em ups. how i love them so. simple button mashing fun. walk along and beat up guys. walk along and beat up more guys. beat up the big boss guy, too. sure they can be repetitive but so what? i kinda like it. and there's some of my favorites on here. tmt4, super double dragon, final fight 3. good stuff, man. good stuff.
Solid list, I think pretty much everything there belongs on the list. I might move a few things around because of personal preference and personal enjoyment factor (Batman Returns, Knights of the Round, and Battletoads/Double Dragon would probably go lower on the list, and Captain Commando and Sonic Blast Man 2 would go a bit higher). That top 5 is perfect, wouldn't change a thing there.
But that game only has 2 beat em up stages (the first two) the others are platforming and weird levels with few (or zero) enemies or you can't hit them.
Battletoads and Double Dragon is better than it looks in the 4 versions, is very underrated in my opinion. I preffer the SNES one (better music, better intro, better double dragon art, new elements -abobo flying to the tv when you defeat him- and the new design of some elements -the enemy pods, turbo bikes, stage backgrounds-) but any of them is funny.
This is an extremely great & fantastic review 🤘😝🤘 of the best beat-em-ups for the SNES especially for the lesser known Japanese titles that were showcased here. This review was perfect 💯✨👍😁💪😎💪😊👌
I don't think I've yelled hell yes louder than what I did seeing King of Dragons on this list. I cannot believe so many don't know this absolutely AMAZING game.
I gotta say, I would have put Super Double Dragon higher, but I would also recommend the Japanese version, which adds quite a bit including a large section to the final stage. And it's finally getting a US release!
Joseph Bekin I was coming to mention it. But it is 1p, and sometimes feela longer than needed. I loved all the extras like hidden areas based off of helper use. No AvP love? (Kidding)
Glad to see Final Fight 3 get some love. Criminally underrated beat em up on the SNES due to releasing late in the system's life cycle. My top 10 would look something like: 1. TMNT IV Turtles in Time 2. Final Fight 3 3. Batman Returns 4. Super Double Dragon 5. Final Fight 6. Captain Commando 7. Knights of the Round 8. X-Men Mutant Apocalypse 9. Spiderman & Venom Maximum Carnage 10. Ninja Warriors
I rented King of Dragons in the mid 90's and spent the next 20 years trying to remember what the game was called. Was super mad I ran out of rental time with that one.
Pretty obscure one I remember renting from our local grocery store as a kid was Battle Trolls in the 90s the troll dolls got their own "for boys" spin off and their special moves in the game were playing their "heavy metal" instruments to wipe the screen up to and including a saxophone solo
For me Turtles in Time is the greatest beat em up of all time flat out, however it's also the one where the omission of 4 player support in the home port is the most glaring.
I'm really not trying to poke at you here, but the "there's a one-on-one fighting mode here that supports up to 4 players" (when talking about Rushing Beat Shura) made me chuckle. I know what you meant, but the way you said it was great.
I, too, enjoyed the beat-em-ups on this list, that I played. Super Double Dragon was fun, as was BTDD, though I think I liked SDD more. Seeing Ninja Warriors make the list made me smile, as I have fond memories of powering through that with Kumotachi (black scythes droid). I've even seen an "enhanced version online with two extra characters. I think I'm going to agree with Turtles in Time topping the list; that game is just fun. Makes me wish a port of it was on the Super Nintendo Classic, just because.
Great list! I'll likely try to play through Knights of the round, and king of dragons. Also shout out for Batman Returns, I used to play that a ton back in the day.
You are no longer “some guy” ranking these games, your a legit critic voice in the SNES world. I listen
Thanks for doing this video. The 2D Side-Scrolling Beatemup is a lost art, when done right. These are some fine examples.
it is a lost art indeed. i wish there were beat 'em up games these days.
They are, indeed!😊
I think I haven' t had such a good "beating time" since them!
Nah plenty of good ones out there. Muramasa, dragon crown, Scott pilgrim, phantom breaker battleground, odins sphere, River city girls and we even get a Streets of rage 4.
2017's Fight 'n Rage is fantastic.
I miss Scott pilgrim. I had it on my Xbox, but the hard disc died out.
That game was so awesome.
Nice list. Batman Returns and Turtles IV took up alot of my time after homework growing up. Those games were so satisfying on every level.
I actually played The Peacekeepers with an emulator when I was young, but it was the japanese version called "Rushing Beat Shura" or something like that. I'm glad to see it getting some love, as it's one of my favorite beat'em ups ever, alongside Final Fight 3 and TMNT IV.
Just an error I wanted to point out. Batman Returns is Also a single-player game.
"Some guys arbitrary ranking of some games? Who cares?" *sniffles* I care, SNES drunk, I care...
I wonder why he always picks 13 instead of 10 or 15 or 11 or 12 or 14 and a half?
@@adayinforever he likes weird numbers and seems to not believe in bad luck. 👀
About Ninja Warriors "This is the rare instance where the Super Nintendo game is actually much better than the Arcade game" Now THAT's what I call an instant-thumbs-up, I couldn't agree enough!

For me, Final Fight 3 also deserves the first place in SNES-beat 'em ups!
I always have loved The King of Dragons and I'm so glad it is so high in the list. I got the game for Christmas as a kid and had so much fun with it. Favourite character is Wizard, I love how his spells keep changing every weapon upgrade.
Es lo de la niña
Super Double Dragon was my favorite beat em up until I finally played it's Japanese counterpart Return Of Double Dragon. The deepest move set of any beat em up is why it's my favorite and it's sad no move set has been better yet.
Final Fight 3 is a really good game. However, it suffers from extreme slow down far too often when there is a lot of stuff happening on the screen at once and that is very often.
Only In 2 player mode
Yes, it has some slowdown but at least it's not game breaking! Great game - for me, it would be on place one on the list!
My favourite is Sonic Blastman 2.
The dash and movelist just make it awesome.
I have to say, the comment about Iron Commando and Punisher was essentially an exact thought I'd had like a year ago. I was always a little jealous that the Genesis got a port of one of my favorite arcade brawlers, and I'm glad I'm not the only one to make that connection with IC.
yea it's a lot like the punisher, maybe a tad better actually
Totally agree with you. Iron commando is an excellent game and it is very similar to the style of play that The Punisher has. Therefore I am fortunate to have in my collection the Iron commando game is a gem of the genre of Beat'em up. Cheers!!
The Turtles in Time game is better on the SNES then the arcade
You should play the arcade game like I did the other day, I think you are going to have your eyes opened like mine were. The SNES port is great but the arcade has so many more touches to it.
i agreee, the snes game is better than the arcade. more content, and tighter controls. konami knocked it out of the park with that port.
I agree with Ken, the arcade version is better in many ways.
...But I think the SNES version of Knights of the Round is better on the SNES due to the better controls.
In the SNES version you get: Bebop and Rocksteady, Slash, Rat King... Plus a coulpe of stages that are not in the arcade version
Don't forget the VS mode and time trials
Remake too lol
Dude, your channel rules, much love brother
I've been waiting a long tine for this video. Thanks
I'm glad you chose Final fight 3 , best on the series in my opinion.
I love all of these games. Ninja Warriors and Turtles in Time are my favorites.
Great video as always! I would add to the list the japanese only Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka. Varied, great graphics, funny, good music.
Undercover Cops is worth mentioning. It looks amazing for a SNES game.
I agree with you! and left out another good is the Combatribes. Regards
Rushing Beat Shura is right up there with Final Fight 3 among the best SNES beat 'em ups IMO.

The first one is Undercover cops with unique figthing style this game came out only in SFC and Arcade. And Second game was Combatribes. This game is entertaining and fun, and also had very good adaptation to SNES from The Arcade. Regards!!!
King of Monsters 2 is a great beat-em-up game too, stomping around a city as a giant monster fighting other giant monsters, whats not to love?
Ninja Warriors has the best soundtrack! It's in my regular music rotation along side regular music albums. I've never actually played the game but know the music off by heart.
play it, it's right up there with turtles in time in my opinion. so much fun
Yes, the SNES music.
I think Pirates of Dark Water - not mentioned - was my favourite SNES beat-em-up. Anyone else?
It's good, but after playing it recently I noticed it kinda drags because of the lack of enemy variation, and a ton of stages that are a little too long at times. But I own a copy, and I love the franchise, so I'm speaking purely from a "how it plays compared to other stuff" lens.

Same :(
Great video Snes drunk best 90s retro game reviewer
I agree.
I'm glad Peace Keepers made the list. It's one of my all time favorites. Ninja Warriors and King of Dragons are classics. I'll have to check out Sonic Blastman 2.
Maximum Carnage should fit somewhere in this. Such a great game.
Pirates of Darkwater is pretty underrated too, and Great Battle III (Japan)
Omg this was my childhood. My stepfather had a folder filled with roms he bought at a farmers market. I didn't know english so this were fun to play
Undercover cops, combat tribes and pirates of dark water
I feel like I’ve seen this video a dozen times, which is why I’m watching it once again.
One of my favorite channels
How did I not notice that you hadn't made this list yet?!?!
Great taste in my favorite genre, SNES drunk! "Final Fight 3" is fantastic, and people seem to crap on it, for some reason. "TMNT IV: Turtles in Time" is one of my favorite games, period!
Quick SnesDrunk review before going to work! Well done, as usual. Can't wait to try some of these. Big thanks again!!
Just a minor correction here, Ninja Warriors & Batman Returns are both single player only.
Awesome video man! I love beat em ups and this was a great way to learn about some of them that I haven't played! Great job Drunk!
Anyone who never played Super Double Dragon, definitely give it a chance. It will seem really clunky at first but if you learn the game it is so worth it and such a fun play through!
TMNT definitely deserves the #1 spot. And it's TMNT. Anybody who grew up during the 90s should like that.
Even the hit sounds are better than the arcade version.
I always thought the first Sonic Blastman was pretty funny. the types of enemies and moves he had made it one of the early comedic beat em ups.
Yeah, they're just seriously different, first one was more looking like a straight out bad comic book, but they sure learned from their mistakes with the second one, three characters to choose from instead of only Sonic Blast Man and nobody else, also, the game was way faster and this time you get to play as two players...

The Shadow would be on this list if the game had been released. The recent reproduction release of it is great!
Yeah, a tiny bit more polish to some of the cut-scenes and presentation stuff and it would be one of the best beat 'em ups on SNES.
I agree with many of you Undercover Cops should be included in any top10, but the list is pretty much spot on (even the order fits quite a lot my personal opinion). Rushing Beat Shura wins top spot for me. Branching paths, unlockable characters, cool story, and great graphics.
Ninja Warriors is more a remake than a port, since the game is VERY DIFFERENT from the source material (and don't have the Iconic Daddy Mulk song)
No it's more of a sequel than a remake.
It was called ”Ninja Warriors Again” in Japan, so yes a sequel. It now has a new sequel on modern platforms called ”Ninja Warriors Once Again” in Japan, but in the West it is called Ninja Saviors.

The only thing about multiplayer games is you need friends 😆😆 yeah I haven't got any. Thanks again for another great video mate.
It does help to have a great Player 2
Do you have any siblings?
Final Fight 3 is the answer. Wish more games had a CPU assisted 2p mode.
Very true. I have my two player coop games lined up if I ever find a friend who wants to join me.
Another great video, dude. King of Dragons doesn't get the love and attention it deserves.
omg the video i've been waiting for!!! thank you so much
King of Dragons and Turtles in Time are the best SNES games that I have ever played.
Well number 1 was no surprise but a solid list overall. I gotta track down some Iron Commando, looks fun as hell
Stick with the ROM unless you got deep pockets. But it's a solid game for sure.
Just found out about it earlier this week and threw it on my snes classic. It's so good
Wicked some titles on here I didn’t know about. Thanks Snes man !
Just leaving a comment to support you cause your videos are rad.
Keep doing these lists, they are actually really helpful
ah, beat 'em ups. how i love them so. simple button mashing fun. walk along and beat up guys. walk along and beat up more guys. beat up the big boss guy, too. sure they can be repetitive but so what? i kinda like it. and there's some of my favorites on here. tmt4, super double dragon, final fight 3. good stuff, man. good stuff.

That top 5 is perfect, wouldn't change a thing there.
Glad I found this I thought I'd played every 16 Bit beat em up there's 5 in this list I never new about
Personally I like "Battletoads in Battlemaniacs" better than the Double Dragon one, but great list 👍
But that game only has 2 beat em up stages (the first two) the others are platforming and weird levels with few (or zero) enemies or you can't hit them.
I would (maybe unfairly) lower it on my list because it's cheaper and arguably better or as good on genesis.
You're right
Turtles in time is still the best beat em up game of all time 💯
Excelente contenido en tu canal, deberias tener más subscriptores! Saludos desde Bog, Col.

I like how you start with almost apologizing for making the video BUT when I have an hour to waste on the retro pie this video is EXACTLY what I need!
The Combat Tribes deserves to be on that list. It's an awesome arcade port plus 2 players.
As a kid I had all the TMNT games. They were all great.
You have to do a meet up at a convention or something man you seem like an awesome guy to interact with. Keep up the amazing content as per usual
I knew it!!! Knew Tmnt in time would be First!!! Great Work As ALWAYS brotha 👍👍👍
Like hearing your list. Your knowable of the snes and is actually pretty impressive not arbitrary
Man Konami put out some bangers for the SNES
THEE BEST MUSIC BY FAR!!!!
Good list nice to see Ninja Warriors.
I also like
Marvel Superheros in War of the Gems
X:men Mutant Apocalypse
Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage
This is an extremely great & fantastic review 🤘😝🤘 of the best beat-em-ups for the SNES especially for the lesser known Japanese titles that were showcased here. This review was perfect 💯✨👍😁💪😎💪😊👌
Love these count down videos
final fight 1 is the mother of the beat em up videogames
I don't think I've yelled hell yes louder than what I did seeing King of Dragons on this list. I cannot believe so many don't know this absolutely AMAZING game.
I gotta say, I would have put Super Double Dragon higher, but I would also recommend the Japanese version, which adds quite a bit including a large section to the final stage. And it's finally getting a US release!
I always liked The Combatribes. Really solid game
Man, Sonic Blast Man 2 is a classic.
No Maximum Carnage?? The SNES had so many great beat em ups.
Joseph Bekin
I was coming to mention it. But it is 1p, and sometimes feela longer than needed. I loved all the extras like hidden areas based off of helper use.
No AvP love? (Kidding)
I remember always playing knights of the round at my mates as a kid and cracking up over the enemy death track. Great game.
Love your videos man.
Glad to see Final Fight 3 get some love. Criminally underrated beat em up on the SNES due to releasing late in the system's life cycle. My top 10 would look something like:
1. TMNT IV Turtles in Time
2. Final Fight 3
3. Batman Returns
4. Super Double Dragon
5. Final Fight
6. Captain Commando
7. Knights of the Round
8. X-Men Mutant Apocalypse
9. Spiderman & Venom Maximum Carnage
10. Ninja Warriors
Good list. I always felt brawl brothers was superior to peacekeepers though. Maybe personal choice but i always felt it was a bit more polished
the fact that you put Iron Commando is a prove that you now what you talking about and know the system
Me and my friends beat Final Fight 3 on every difficulty level so many times we had to start making up our own story for the game.
It was pretty easy
Great list! But I could have mention too Maximum Carnage, Rushing Beat and XMen Mutant Apocalypse :-)
Always enjoy these videos, I never played Ninja Warriors or Knights of the Round, will have to check them out now!
King of Dragons is often overlooked but indeed great for all the given reasons. Legend, Great Battle 2 and Stone Protectors deserve a mentioning too.
SNES drunk you rock. I'll put some of these on my retropie I reckon ❤
Thanks for watching
For me Turtles in Time is the greatest beat em up of all time flat out, however it's also the one where the omission of 4 player support in the home port is the most glaring.
This is why I loved both the SNES, and the Genesis
Great list buddy 👊🏻 Snes rocks!
What about “Legend” ?
Hooray! I was waiting for this video!
I'm really not trying to poke at you here, but the "there's a one-on-one fighting mode here that supports up to 4 players" (when talking about Rushing Beat Shura) made me chuckle. I know what you meant, but the way you said it was great.
There's a fan game based of Double Dragon IV and it is amazing. So much more smooth and fast paced with a lot of super moves!
Superb list. Thats at least 5 I hadnt heard of and need to try out at the weekend :D
Damn your videos are great 😊 Keep em coming 👍 And greetings from Sweden 😊
Holy Prehistoric Turtlesaurus Turtles in Time number1, baby!
Sega Mega Drive also had great beat em up as well.
He already know.
"Why 13? I don't know I just like odd numbers" @SNES drunk
Excellent review! But no love for Maximum Carnage?
Ah! When will this game get its recognition? 😂
Great list! I'll likely try to play through Knights of the round, and king of dragons. Also shout out for Batman Returns, I used to play that a ton back in the day.
