In the past I've used a product called RISLONE for lifter noise on various engines. It works really well, under $5 walmart. I'm trying it out on my OM603.691 with promising results at the moment. Much quieter but not gone; 100 miles in. Loud 'TING!' to barely noticeable 'ping'. I also read on the forums people having very good results switching to Mobil 1 full synth. Something I never would have used myself in a older diesel. Diesel formulated oils have more detergents and do a better job suspending the soot captured. But I'm willing to give it a shot if others are saying it works wonders.
Great video .....I expect new video where you were take off tappets.......also you can repair(clear) bad tappets and use it again for a lot kilometres.... there is a lot of videos on youtube about repair yourself hydraulic tappets.....best regards from Serbia!
You forgot one important information: When multiple hydraulic lifters are failing, it is sometimes a sign for a defective head gasket. In older castings of the cylinder head the oil gallery for the camshaft and tappets is sealed along the width of the cylinder head fully by the head gasket. Sometimes pressurised oil pushes through the gasket into the timing chain room. That is a serious problem on OM603s with a gasket, which is not reinforced at the oil gallery.
Hello. I have a W124 250D from 1990 and I follow your great channel. Thank you for sharing all these useful info with us. I had a leak on the 5 delivery valves of the injection pump. So, I bought the dedicated tool and I replaced the copper and O rings. It solved the leak but now I have a strong clicking noise. I checked the oil level and I also removed the cover of the hydraulic valves tappets to check if the tappets have to be changed or not. Conclusion: the tappets are ok. This is a good news but on the other side I still don't find the cause of my clicking noise. Do you have and idea about what could be the reason of this clicking noise? Thank you! Armand
Be careful when take of camshaft there is order which screws g off first in abnother way of taking of screws camshaft can broke as piece of glass! P.S. Yes I can't wait your new video :)

I have 1987 300SDL with 95000 miles and I just took it to the service to replace radiator that was leaking. Right after picking up the vehicle, I noticed that ticking sound in the engine. Could it be just a coincidence that sound appeared after radiator replacement, or it happened due to couple pressure tests done to find where the coolant was leaking and now it causing that ticking sound to appear? Thanks!
Emilis Cicenas how long did the repair take before the engine was run again? That maybe the reason for the tick- hydraulic elements drained the oil back during the engine down time.
This happens when the head gasket is old and blows over channel what delivers oil pressure to the hydraulic lifters. I believe you need a new head gasket.

This happens when the head gasket is old and blows over channel what delivers oil pressure to the hydraulic lifters. I believe you need a new head gasket.
