Only came across you recently, but this is easily my favourite channel now. Not just because we blindly agree on things, but because of your deep and encompassing understanding of lore, which I feel like is a big part of why this show is more enjoyable. The pacing issues etc. don't magically disappear, of course, but I am deeply impressed with how deep they went to explore the phiolosphical debate of light and dark side force users, and the institution of the Jedi. I do hope we'll also get some healthy criticism of the Sith down the line. Do also very much appreciate their love for elements of the EU that they have reinserted, in my opinion, well.
His discussions and commentary on the show are certainly better than another Star Wars channel that just made arguably one of the worst reviews of an episode of television I have ever seen in my life🤣

Honestly, kinda depressing that there are so few channels are giving Acolyte a fair chance.
They started off thinking it was going to fail unfortunately the first few things I heard about this show were from the director/producer preparing for people to hate it before it came out… I was thinking “uh oh, what BS are they bringing us if they’re worried people are going it hate it months before it comes out!”
Lol dude we tried. It's on Episode 6. You all also pretend this show is a stand alone project. It isn't. So "little" things have quickly added up across Disney Star Wars projects. And they have the money and ability to hire real talent, to make great shows and movies.
They don't. They threw out George's plans, and are cannibalizing Legends like there's no tomorrow.
Glad some of you are enjoying it, even if it's just 13% of you. Could have fed a small nation for a century for the cost of this slop.

@cloudmaster182 it's boring, there's no reason to care about any of the characters so there are no stakes, they tell instead of showing, and the episodes are so short they can't have self contained episodic format, making it more like pausing a movie and watching the next 25 minutes the following week.
His patient approach to convincing Osha is very much the Sith way. If the Sith couldn't control their emotions, they would not have survived with the rule of two for a thousand years.
He could be Sith or he could be a Dark Jedi following the Sith Code. Dark Jedi would have absolutely no clue the Bane Lineage Sith exists, it is likely lots of Dark Jedi over 1000 years loosely follow the Sith Code.

It's not just the Star Wars discussions that make your videos great. My wife and I often talk about your outlook on many things you bring up during your videos and how much we agree with you. But one of the things that we respect the most, is that even if we severely disagree with you on a subject, you're someone who can discuss it without turning it into a hatefest. I’ll always like, not everyone is gonna enjoy everything. I do wish more people, can have real and thought out ,discussions. I couldn’t imagine being, disrespectful because of an opinion. Even if I don’t agree with it. We might have other things in common. It’s rare to find someone with exactly the same views, on everything. We need to stop pushing people away. I would like to agree with you, but if that's the case why would taking it off have let master Sol read his thoughts? I suppose it could require eye contact, but that would be a separate new addition to the lore.
I think you're right. Clarity of mind to hone in on the force which would allow you to fight off any attempts to probe your mind a bit easier. But once you lose it then you get the other senses back and subconsciously rely on them again.
I suspect that the helmet actually acts more like a crutch in that regard, funny enough. A true master wouldn't need to rely on it and allow themselves to give in to the force completely to reach that level. That said, it still managed to make someone into a massive threat

I think your spot on with your comments about the Jedi tapping in to the dark side when they think no one can see them, I feel like its almost inevitable for younger less disciplined Jedi to prevent themselves from going there especially under life or death combat situations 👍 nice work Allan keep it up.
No, that is not how the Jedi work. What part of the dark side is corrosive is difficult to understand? George Lucas made it very clear that the dark side is like meth, it might feel euphoric at first but it will destroy you.
Best thing The Acolyte did for me is I discover you because of this show. Lots of people just shitting on the show for easy clicks. It is sad that many people fall into the dark side through unreasonable hate and baited because of their emotions. Show's quality is arguable but story is interesting, what they are trying to do is interesting, characters like Sol and Qimir are very good additions to the SW universe. I am enjoying the show and I just want to discuss what going on with the story. Your videos are very informative and enjoyable.

This line reminded me of Ahsoka and Ezra. They both explored the Force in their own ways, developing and using their powers for their own reasons -- because they had the freedom to do so. But Qimir can't do anything without some High Republic Jedi coming along and meddling, if not outright stopping him. The Force seeks harmony and balance -- but if one side is restricting the exploration of the other, that balance is broken. So for there to be true balance, a person needs the option to choose -- that "freedom to wield my power the way I like."

I liked the specific naming of Cortosis and don't mind the expansion of its capability, but if I understood it correctly, it wasn't blocking the force but was acting as a sensory deprivation, in fact making it easier to connect with the force, as you stated. But I may have misunderstood that. My assumption is that Osha putting on the helmet will lead her to connect more deeply with the force and have a new recall of the Brendock incident. However, if the helmet is a sensory deprivation tool, then Qimir should not have been able to have a conversation during the fight. Possibly the force could explain being able to engage (not seeing with eyes nor hearing with ears, etc), but then not sure how it functions as a force suppression element. I could also go with he can hear somewhat, but then again, it's not an effective sensory suppression device and it didn't seem like he was having difficulty hearing. It feels a bit like they wanted to have their cake and eat it to. Not a bad idea, just wish they didn't have him talk until after the helmet was removed (perhaps even not adjusting his head position to noise and fighting more like Zatoichi if we want to stick with the Japanese inspiration). I do like the use of it as a cheat (dark side), very much going into Yoda saying it is (quicker easier, more seductive), and may help explain Qimir struggling more after losing the helmet.
No, you're right. He said it acts as sensory deprivation. So it blocks or mutes your senses allowing you to more easily concentrate on the force.
Maybe it has an "off" switch for when you need to taunt a Jedi.

Well, I don´t think that the "Cortosis" part of the sensory depriviation is the kicker here. It´s actually just having the helmet, any helmet, cut you off from the outside, that does the trick. As someone who has done a lot of medieval martial arts and was there at the advent of HEMA, we know the thing some call Helmet Fatigue, Helmet Panic or similar terms. It´s when being alone with yourself in the helmet, with limited view, and room to breathe, really gets to you. It´s brutal when you first encounter it, and when someone is pummeling your helmet, while you are about to lose it, there is NOTHING you want to do more than take that freaking thing off.
You don´t need the force to feel that, not at all.
But learning to be calm in there, to take whatever comes and just accept it, to keep breathing deep and controlled breaths, while using all your senses, because you cannot see jack shit, is when you become the better fighter. And that´s what happens, when you get comfortable fighting with a closed helmet. You make the most of your situation, you get comfortable there, and you are ready to stand it.
In my opinion, that´s the lesson here, and whoever thought of that, definitely had Helmet Panic at one point or another in order to understand that.
Excellent comment that most people, myself included, would have never even known to think about. I've never heard of "helmet fatigue", never thought about the effects of it, but your comment here led me to think about it and it's somewhat of a frightening thought.
@@bobbywilliams9006 it’s well known among Buhurt and HEMA fighters, and one of their favourite pranks is to take someone inexperienced, put them in the thickest and “most protective” armor possible, and give them a bucket (great helmet) or closed Hundsgugel (Bascinet) as it “will protect them the most”, and watch them go crazy, after being pummelled in the head and unable to take off the helmet, due to excess cushioning around their arms.
Some people never put on a closed helmet again, hence why so many HEMA and Buhurt fighters fight with those Football Facemask Style helmets.

The Stranger/Qimir is one of the most interesting characters in the franchise, reminds me a bit of Ventress. Baylen is an interesting contrast too.

The sith generally seem to want the freedom to dominate others. That's kind of what is so amazing about episode 6. He's not lying to osha but he is corrupting her e en his nudes scene was pretending to be vulnerable to play off her jedi ethics.

0:45 in your episode breaking down the fight, i left a comment asking if the helmet did something along the lines of Lukes training helmet with the blast sheild down, making you rely less on your senses, and more on the force itself. It could also be why "he doesnt follow the rules of combat" maybe he is just following the force?
The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of the Jedi is fascinating to me because it's the story of a noble institution with noble intentions slowly falling prey to corruption, with a few last fading embers (Qui-Gon, for instance) holding out against the darkness until eventually they're undone by the enemy hiding in plain sight. The Jedi Order of the prequels makes for fascinating discussion, as they're at once an order of peacekeepers pressed into service as generals who fight to preserve life but have no problem having Geonosians incinerated by flamethrowers (looking right at you Ki-Adi, keep on walkin'). When I was a kid, I loved the Jedi as the good guys. Now I see them as not simply heroic archetypes, but people too, flaws and all. It's what makes Star Wars so fascinating to me, in that both perceptions of the Jedi can be correct at the same time. Love it, and love your channel. Keep up the great work!

personally I don't think he heals her, he may have attempted to but it was not fully successful but I am ok with them leaving that a power only a select few can access, like kilo and ray and then only because they are a dyad

I wouldn't say he's unbiased. I would, however, say that he is fairly reasonable and even-handed most of the time. I don't always agree with him, but at least he's respectable and logical - which is the driving reason for me to watch his videos at all. The hate channels irritated me because they're filled with thinly veiled misogyny and I won't give them power or visibility by naming them.
Acolyte does raise some interesting questions and it does have representation in it not frequently seen in Star Wars outside of token appearances. But, I think some of the storytelling could use a bit more refinement to improve the quality of the work. I give it a solid B-. It's not amazing, but it is decent.
He is both a gentleman and a scholar and I would agree his videos on the Acylote have been a shinning beacon for what the Star Wars community can be.

@@hadeshades2365 It's fair to do both. That's part of critical thinking and analysis. Agenda is as important as the work. Corrupt agendas can lead to corrupt work - even if that corruption is not immediately apparent.
That said, my analysis stands. He's respectable and logical even if I don't always agree with him.

It would not be possible to sustain such a huge population were it not for Fritz Haber s Genius in chemistry. At the same time he invented chemical warfare and was about the only reason why Germany didn’t run out of ammo as soon as ww1 started. Next time you eat something you can think about that.

Kenobi dismembered Skywalker. That’s tapping into the Dark Side. My issue with the use of the Dark Side is when it becomes part of the routine. The High Republic era Jedi used counseling for Jedi who were tempted by the Dark Side instead of dismissal.
Tapping into the dark side means letting "negative" emotions fuel you. Obi-Wan cutting off Anakin's/Vader's limbs was his final act of mercy, as he couldn't bring himself to ending him outright. The intention of the action is important, compare it to for example Anakin striking down the Tusken.
On your points around how many Jedi use both sides of the Force, I think what you are alluding to is spot on. It aligns with the story beats in Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor when you consider both Cere's and Cal's connection to the Force.
The last episode was brutal this one seems more like its setting something big up

A lot of Jedi definitely seem to... 'dip their toes' when things get sufficiently life or death. In many ways the ones who do best seem to be the ones who can do so then step back afterword's. Not overly hesitate to do so, which gets them killed, like we saw in Episode 5, or all to far into it, or be consumed about it after it's over. It's a very difficult balance to handle, and might be one that relies more on natural inclination than training. At least, with the training methods the Jedi use.
Honestly I love Quimir (?). He makes some very good points, he is kinda funny imo and I'm a sucker for badass morally grey/ non moral characters. Really looking forward to how this plays out

Obi-Wan absolutely tapped into the Dark Side in EP1 when he fought Maul after Qui-Gon died.

And wasn’t it that moment when Maul was able to advantage of him? Kenobi became unbalanced and Maul seized that opportunity by Force pushing him into the pit. But then Obi-Wan didn’t give in, he was able to centre himself again and overcome Maul in a much more calm and focused way.
It’s a nice reminder that even on our best days we can lose ourselves but that doesn’t mean we’re lost forever, we can find our own balance within ourselves.
Im gonna start using this handy trick to drive, I need to buy a helmet...

Qimir and Sol are the best characters on the show for me. Lee Jung Jae's acting is fantastic. The fact that the dude learned English for the role just blows my mind. His English is pretty good too!

I rather enjoy episodes like this, especially when I rewatch a series back to back. It's a much needed break from the intense emotions of the mid-story conflict. Getting to know the big bad better is also important.
I also love that he's fighting entirely through his connection with the Force and totally schooled those overconfident Jedi with it. Did he learn that when he was in Jacksonville and locked himself in that safe?

I really love this show. It's a fascinating referendum on the ethics of the Jedi. _It would_ be genuinely interesting to discuss (the point of...art, really), but the dissent is getting more intense with each episode, and that discussion might be impossible.
Which is too bad. It could be such an interesting conversation. For everyone.
It's a great direction - glad they're further exploring the fabled "hypocrisy of the jedi." Lightsaber combat tactics like turning the saber on and off, hidden blade, special armor etc makes the fights more martial arts like and fun
Think Qimir was the padawan of Rwoh? Either he turned or had a curiosity with the Dark Side. She either tried to off him or they fought, explaining his scars and his "loss". Also explains her insisting on keeping this hush-hush. She doesn't want anyone to know that Qimir escaped, and now having another Dark Jedi on the loose has her stressed enough that she ventured off planet. She also seemed to have an idea who had killed the Jedi away team. Just theorizing and speculating like everybody on the net. Thanks again for having a more positive outlook on the show.
And this is why people like Thor Skywalker and others who keep harping on about "balance in the Force means there's only the light side" drive me bonkers. As you've said, one use of the dark side in any form does not a raging Sith make. People also go silly in thinking that the concept of "grey Jedi" (Je'Daii) means fans wanting to be able to throw Force lightning around without consequences (putting aside Plo-Kloon's light side version of the power). It isn't. It's a more relaxed emotional mentality that means you let yourself feel all the good and bad emotions, maybe lose one's self in them every so often, but regain control once that's done. Like someone who moderately partakes in alcohol or soft drugs doing a bender as an occasional thing. And yes, it can end up being a problem, a spiralling "gateway" to ruining one's life, but that can happen with many things.

@@richardhittmann12 Just because Thor claims it to be so, doesn't make it so. Even Disney canon has there be three sides of the force - Light side, dark side, and Bendu. Lucas' famous interview that Thor keeps acting like he's understands mentions the "light side" and the "dark side."
To Quote Lucas himself - "One is selfless, one is selfless, and you want to keep THEM in balance." Lucas' example of going to the dark side is all about becoming so selfish that only your wants and desires matter, and the fear of losing the things you have/desire.

I always believed there was a ' third ' way to wield the force other than how the Jedi and Sith wield it.
there has always been a lot of ways to do it, the jedi and sith are just 2 teachings to expand the use of it but there are force sensitive people, at least in the eu, who neither side found that were still sensitive to it and using it on smaller scales maybe not even knowing what to call it. that is one thing this show is failing to show, the jedi did not just show up say your kids can use the force we are taking them, it was an option, the jedi also did not stop other from using the force in general they were the ones about spreading the force, the dark side after darth bane came up with the rule of 2 to not spread out the power of the dark side as much limiting who could use it
After watching the sixth episode of The Acolyte, I feel this show would have been ten times more interesting if Smilo Ren were the main character and the show focused on his fall to the dark side and Master Sol was his former Jedi Master. They are the only characters I care about.
But that's just me. Like the show or hate it, these two characters and their actors, Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae, are carrying the show.

Agree. It seems like they wanted to make a mystery thriller and then worked backwards, but not very well. It's a somewhat convoluted story that would have been better as a straightforward story with better character development and writing.

Forgot how good your channel is. Got sick of all the redundant info dumps with click bait the Star Wars channels are known for. I do feel like yours were always better. More organized. My stance on the whole Cortosis debacle. I've been asking for fights like this on screen for over a decade.
Man, I’d love to have a beer with you and talk Star Wars, even if I don’t know as much of the lore as you do.I’m honestly liking this show more as it coined on, even though I still think the writing is overall average.
The thing I disagree with the Jedi about is they act like all emotions will always lead to the dark side. People have light and dark in them. Controlling yourself to not give in to the darkness is what’s important.
In a lot of ways it’s like faith, or willpower. You never know how strong those things are unless they’re tested.
The thing is Sith and Jedi are the opposite Side of the same medal. In one are only positve Emotion and one the other are only negative Emotions allowed. Love your videos and your calm and reflecting kind. Your accept other opinions and especially in a kind of exhausting franchise is this a relief.❤
This series has been awesome. It’s nice to see a Star Wars show that acknowledges how messed up the Jedi are, and have always been. Imagine, for example, that Jaeki & Yord might have lived if the Jedi had trained them on how to use their emotions, not just repress them. None of his tricks would have done anything if they had already experienced them, like a Force-vaccine.
We had an entire trilogy focused on how “messed up” the Jedi are lol we didn’t need an 8 episode show that messes with the continuity to tell us something we already know

I think the concept of cortosis is awesome. It’s a rare enough material to not become a cheap gimmick, but has unique properties most Jedi aren’t prepared for. I think it benefits the lore.
Cortosis is really versatile blocking material. In the Darth Plagueis novel, it even blocked Sith Lighting when Plagueis tried to destroy a probe droid.

12:23 I find this “echo” thing actually really similar to how a nuclear reactor/bomb works by reflecting the neutrons emitted by the uranium/plutonium back at it to fuel the reactor even further, you could even say it’s reflecting the anger and energy to multiply it.

I just came over from watching Star Wars Theory’s review of the episode… and ya I’m so glad that this is now the Star Wars channel that I will be watching from here on out. Because dear god I don’t know if I have ever heard so much garbage in my life from a TH-cam video. At least here on this channel GT is able to be reasonable, honest, but also not act like a child when he’s reviewing the show.
This is the most Star Wars channel. Not some clickbait drama infesting slop. 99.9% of other channels rely solely on Buzz words to validate their criticism rather than dissect the content inside.

He tried to make the case that Star Wars has never nor should have sexual scenes or shirtless scenes, and it would be something that George Lucas would never have done. I’m not even kidding you can go and watch the video he says that. I have watched, read and experienced so much Star Wars to know that that is so unbelievably false.😂
100% i started watching this channal because I am so tired of people nitpicking stuff that has been in star wars for years and Disney does it and now it's a problem
@@duelmadness22 exactly dude that’s the biggest thing for me like there are many things I can easily criticize Disney for right now especially with regards to this show like how they treat the format and the runtime of television shows and what not but when it comes to fundamental Star Wars and its lore, Disney is following it very well in the show.

I am loving every episode you have made so far about this show. I do also have a prediction. I see that Venestra is worried about something specific and Qimir used to be a Jedi. I'm thinking that maybe he was her Padawan? Either that or she did know him when he was a Jedi and something happened that was kept hush hush with him and she is trying to keep what happened a secret still
13:10 ironically, it was often a strategy of many top tier Sith to goad a Jedi into using their emotions during a duel. For most Jedi, they would get a boost in aggression potency, but would quickly loose control and leave themselves wide open to counterattack. (ex. Jecki, and Obi-Wan in his first fight vs Maul).
Oh the other hand, Jedi who were already flirting with the dark side beforehand would get a sizable buff to all around focus, like Luke and Anakin
I would argue that cortosis is not blocking jedi mind reading. Qimir does not say that. He says it is sensory depriving leaving you alone with the force. I think the ability to focus on the force so strongly thanks to the sensory deprivation allows him to block force mind reading with his own force power. Without the sensory deprivation there are too many distractions to accomplish this. I assume he has trained this ability as well, and we have seen minds blocking minds in star wars before. Leia blocking Reva, Rey blocking Kylo, and Watto's whole species being immune.
Interesting take, I understood it more as the helmet was sensory depriving as it blocked their sight and not necessarily block off the outside influences of the force. Either way is a very cool concept. I took the “and let you read my thoughts” line from Ep 5 as more like seeing his face would give things away and let him read what he’s planning, etc.
I just want to say I really enjoy your take on these episodes and your knowledge and depth of thinking when it comes to the motivations of the Jedi vs Sith are very interesting. You're probably my favourite Star Wars commentator at the moment. I like the nuanced way Qimir is corrupting Ohsa but he's not necessarily doing it through outright lies. He's not being any more dishonest than Obi Wan was in Ep 4 when he talks to Luke. In fact George Lucas ended up making Obi-Wan the biggest liar in the Star Wars universe as he changed and developed his story. Obi-Wan is my favourite Jedi by far and the prime example, after Yoda of what a Jedi should be.. but he was certainly fallible and stretched the truth to make his points.

I didn’t interpret the cortosis thing as blocking the Force powers otherwise he wouldn’t be able to use the Force to sense the fight. I think he said that to Sol because the mask was giving him a mental edge in their force mind battle. Why? I think for multiple reasons. Like Qimir said here in this episode, the helmet forces him to focus just on the Force, likely enhancing his abilities with the Force. The mask also hid his face and identity which would help make it more difficult for Sol to read him as there’s less to read and it’s harder to focus your powers on a mystery. I also think there is probably an element of the mask enhancing Qimir’s effectiveness bc naturally it’s intimidating and the mystery aspect enhances that as we fear the unknown. I think the mask is almost all about the psychological battle and the Force mind reading stuff is just an enhancement on that fundamental battle

Qimir has proven to be very resourceful and doesn't just follow the rule of cool with his look. Most impressive that his helmet utilizes the basic training of a youngling to maximize his combat abilities.
Qimir reminds me of Set Harth. They both are fallen Jedi. And while they use the Dark Side, they are not controlled by it. They live their lives focused on a personal goal that isn't inherently evil.
