    You're advice has been the cornerstone of my seagull rebuild. My engine is now running. I'll be giving you a mention in the upcoming upload and tagging your channel link. Video will be complete when engine has been taken for sea trials. 2 or 3 weeks latest. Thankyou!

    The filler/drain plug also works as the level plug, if the motor is stood vertically with the plug removed the oil will be up to the plug lip, or just running out. Overfilling likely does no real harm other than leakage as these Seagulls did not run a true seal on the output shaft which is why water gets into the gear housing and mixes with the oil.

    I just used a 1 inch spade wood bit and held the spade bit with an adjustable wrench, I used the wood bit on its side.

    Hello. Good video and channel. I am getting a seagull outboard from my dad soon, and I know nothing about them at all, so Im pleased I found your channel to help me understand the outboard. Do you need to lie down the outboard on a certain side. Really enjoyed watching. Thanks Steve 👍

      Hi Steve
      They can be laid anyside . Just run all fuel from the carb before laying down or some could spill from carb

    Enjoying your series. I've just taken on an old Seagull Silver Century long shaft. My dad used to have one and it was a pain in the arse, but I can see why (he needed to do the cordless drill trick). Mine starts first or second pull every time and with your advice I'll keep it that way. Thanks!

    What when gearbox oil comes out of the water inlet slots right above the gearbox when you stand the motor upright from a laying posotion?

    I thought that the gearbox oil was put in with the engine in an upright position until it starts to flow out of the drain / fill hole

    • @ScottishPikers

      correct and also should be filled to top as manual states and it doesnt allow water in, only the pick up above the gearbox sucks water to cool the engine im sure.

      I put mine on the floor and use my sons tube of grease for his mountain bike plus a bit of gear box marine oil and it works fine. I poke it in with a small rod. I always leave an air gap for the seawater.

    The head of my plug came off completely leaving the plug part still in the case. Any suggestions on how to get the rest of the plug out? It is very stuck.

    hello, how many liters of valvoline do you put in?

    • @barjhealy
      @barjhealy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will depend on gearbox size and how much you already have in it
