I found a copy of it on DVD at a used bookstore a few years ago. You gotta' keep your eyes peeled for little gems when perusing shelves and bargain bins at these kinds of places.
@@lewasilJesus Christ, I posted this a decade ago. I must have just seen the film. But I still really love Whiter Shade of Pale on church organ. There's this depth to the chords which isn't there with the original Hammond M102. The original works better as a pop song, but it feels truer to its roots on a church organ.
@@n0denz yes I agree. I just love that song so much, it almost makes me cry each time. But yes the church organ is amazing, I have never experienced one in real life. Amazing 10 years ago, and you responded! Have a good night, stay safe out there.
Mind your language, this scene in this film inspired me to go out and learn to play keyboards, however, it has taken me nearly 20 years to actually get around to it! see my videos for more procul harum!
What was Jimmy talking about when he said Procol Harum nicked the tune from Marvin Gaye? I haven't heard any Marvin Gaye songs that sound like "Whiter Shade of Pale" or "Air on G String"
I spent so long trying to puzzle this out too! But I finally have the answer: the Wikipedia article for A Whiter Shade of Pale mentions the Bach similarity...and also a similarity to When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge. Then I actually found an essay online by Alan Parker, the director of The Commitments, 'INTRODUCTION TO HENRY SCOTT IRVINE’S PROCOL HARUM: GHOSTS OF A WHITER SHADE OF PALE' where he mentions that the reference to Marvin Gaye (rather than Percy Sledge) was a mistake in the script which became an inside joke and was left in the film!
@@Misslt27 That's really interesting. They actually do the scene later where Steven is confessing and he mentions that he's been humming when a man loves a woman by Marvin Gaye and the priest says I think Percy Sledge did that one.
Steve : [in confessional] Used to, when I studied I would sing hymns, but now all I can sing is "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Marvin Gaye Father Molloy : Percy Sledge. Steve : What? Father Molloy : It was Percy Sledge did that particular song. I have the album.
RIP Gary Brooker 🙏. Thank you for the music and the memories 🎼💙 🙏
The Commitments, a great movie!!!
Good soundtrack, too. Always wished they had been able to do an official cover of this song on the cathedral organ to put on it.
I've watched this movie many times. And and and it's wonderful!!

Obrigado. Thanks. Beuatiful.
This church is in gardiner street and the scene is very much the work of alan parker, one for the ma's and da's.
This scene is awsome!!!
ME ENCANTA, CONEL ORGANOFANTASTIC....
One of my favorite scenes in the best movie.
Now that Gary Brooker’s gone, this scene acquires a yearning to its tone.
Bach, Procol Harum & Alan Parker together in a great little movie.
His arrangement of the organ part is like 50% better than the original.
No....
