  • In this tutorial I show you my take on The Summer Blockbuster look - using the powerful 2 node subtractive colour setup.
    Make sure you read the accompanying blog post as it goes into more detail than what's possible in the video - juanmelara.com....
    I suggest trying out the techniques on the tutorial footage first, as it's easier to know when you're heading in the right direction. Download all the necessary footage/files from the link above.

    This one tutorial just completely degrades the majority of "Cinematic Look" tutorials on TH-cam. Amazing information!

    I have scoured TH-cam for insights and theory of a grade..and no body seems to address that, everybody is showing which software they use, what LUT they use, which plugins works best..But none has come close to how you explain these things Sir...and for that thank you very much..you've got a subscriber and a fan.

    This is excellent and crazy that it's still relevant in 2022. I'd love to see other grades done like this, but also to see the difference between how you grade now vs when this was posted.
    I'm 100% sure that you've learned even more in the past 5 years which have altered your workflow.
    Not to mention that Resolve has changed a lot too.

    The skin on the guys knee and the girls hair in the last clip is still breaking the qualifier. I don't think you covered enough range in the skin tone qualification. You bandaided it by qualifying the orange color in the cups . Besides that, I think the look with kodak is great. Hilights and midtones much too muted on the last clip. I liked the stock grade better than the adjustments you made. Lovely workflow regardless (maybe my monitors just shit)

  • @volaksin5842
    @volaksin5842 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Has anyone had problems getting the mid tones to go blue? In the video(7:02), he pushes it to 0.19. When I push it there, hardly any color difference; maybe different version of resolve?

    • @JuanMelara82
      @JuanMelara82  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Juan, you videos are fantastic, cannot urge you enough to make more, I'm going to be rewatching your videos again and again.
    I have an idea for a future video that I would love to see your take on. I recent shot a film in a courtroom, style was a comedy. Courtroom had mostly white walls, wooden furniture, and characters with relatively muted colour clothes. Was shooting slog3 on a sony fs7, exposed roughly 2 stops over, I had great looking footage viewing a relatively neutral 'Alexa' like lut on set, but I'm struggling to implement a look in post that really makes the footage shine. The white walls are obviously the biggest Issue, but I tried to introduce as much contrast on set and shape on set as possible. Would be interesting to see how you would tackle that issue, the nature of a comedy I feel limited how extreme some of the tones can go, but introducing any colour, the walls just kill me. Any ideas/tips?

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you might want to build out some masks for the walls you're talking about and deal with them on their own.

    Kind of a stupid question, bot how do you edit the footage? I'm editing in premiere, and it's pretty lame that it is near impossible to import all the stuff to resolve (edited with cuts and effects). So the best sollution is to export everything you need (all the footage seperate) to grade then export it again back to putting it together in premiere? Or is there something im not noticing.

    • @KOWYCS
      @KOWYCS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw, you have the best explanation so far :)

    • @ParanormalIndiana
      @ParanormalIndiana 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I'd edit in Resolve as well. It has all the tools needed. Much easier than trying to import Adobe stuff.

    • @KOWYCS
      @KOWYCS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But resolve does not suppert all the codecs. That is the problem. For example i have some m2t files that i wnated to add to a project (i know, its the worst...) but sadly i can't :(

    • @KOWYCS
      @KOWYCS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only work with mts files for now. I can work with that in resolve with no problem :) maybe even faster than premiere. I need to upgrade my stuff :D kinda like that ursa mini pro... Im currently using jvc gy hm70e (on manual settings), hero 3+ black and an iphone SE. I know its not the best setup, but i can do magic with these :D
