I wasn't able to see the liquid metal version but I 'm certain it's really very special. Between bracelets and rubber bracelets, for me it's a no brainer, bracelet all the way. Although the rubber bracelet on the PO seems comfortable I prefer the extra heft and appearance of power and strength that the bracelet imparts on the watch. Thanks for watching and let us know how it goes when you get your watch:)
I was on the fence about the 2201.50 for a long time. It was due to 2 things, the movement (anecdotely it seem that there were reports of probems), and something about the hands. I do like the fact that it has a solid caseback. I'm glad you're enjoying your watch, wear it in good health and I hope it give you many years of joy. thanks for watching :)
I passed on the 2500 because I heard about problems with the movement. The 8500 was designed from the ground up so I assumed that whatever bugs that may or may not have been in the 2500 were addressed
This watch is just fantastic. Movement is perfect decorated... but I still prefer standard Seamaster. Omega make such a beautiful timepieces... Maybe in few years I will be able to afford one too. Thanks for this review!
I have the SMP 300M and I wouldn't give it a second thought if anyone offered to trade their PO for my SMP, don't get me wrong, I love the SMP, but I love the PO even more. I love being able to watch (not pun intended) movement as it Works, watching the Balance and the hairspring, it's just amazing. But if you can, get the SMP, by far THE most comfortable watch I've ever worn, and it just does everything I want it to, if it's too take a swim in the Ocean or og bowling, it's magnificent.
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS Had the watch for a year on January the 11th. An absolutely amazing piece. When I got it from new at the AD, it gained 6 seconds per day, now it gains 4 seconds per week. Great watch. Great review.
lovely review, superb camera work! I had the 8500 PO and 'upgraded' to the 9300, but it's hard to work out whether the 2 subdials and general 'busy-ness' of the dial take away from what makes the PO a really nice watch with some nice references to Omega's past... (and I think that's why they purposefully have the vestigial 'manual' HE valve) I know you called out that you'd prefer a solid case back - and part of me would love to see the Omega Hippocampus on the back of the watch; however I also love being able to see the movement. As 'wearable' tech watches (i.e. Apple watch) start to saturate the market over 2015 and beyond; I can't think of anything better than being able to look at the intricacy of my movement and be reminded of how special mechanical time keeping is. Finally; you gave the watch an 'unconditional' 9, but I think you meant 'conditional', as in a condition of your 9 is that the movement stands the test of time; but I got what you meant :)
I had the 2500 version in 45.5mm prior to buying my ceramic sub and it was just way too big. Beautiful watch though, always thought the PO was the best of the Seamasters. I think 42mm is a good compromise.
Omega caliber is very loosely referred to as being "in house", but ETA (which is owned by the Swatch group)and a whole bunch of other companies (some of which are probably owned by Swatch as well) collaborated to build the 8500.
just curious, what aspects of the newer models turn you off? for me, the biggest initial problem (with the pre 8500 PO's) were the hands, followed by the fact that the coaxial was retrofitted into an existing eta mov't. thanks for turning in. with the newer models it would be perfect (though not a deal breaker) if the casebacks were all solid
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS You mean the hands not quite reaching the numbers? My 2541.80 has the bigger minute hand that touches the numbers...so it's a bit newer styling. But as to why I favor the older models versus the new...not sure. The older style is just more appealing to me aesthetically. As for movements, as you point out in your video, a lot of the newer automatics from Omega are not tried and true. You can't go wrong with an Omega quartz which has a proven track record. Not dissing automatics by any means, I have a Rolex, Hamilton, and a Tissot with autos in them and they keep great time.
more specifically the shape of the hands, and arrowhead, in the 8500 planet oceans the hands look nicer (sleeker?)...as for the reliability of new movements, I definitely prefer movements that have been around for a while. I did alot of research into the 8500, and it seemed to be good movement.. so while it hasn't been around that long, it had all the hallmarks of a good/great movement. thus far watch is still keeping excellent time, and haven't had any issues.
I've seen plenty of reviews on this watch and this is the best one. I had to take a second to say thank you and keep up the good work. I'm probably going to get the blue 42mm liquidmetal titanium. I'm interested in your thoughts on bracelets vs rubber straps.
Picking mine up next week. Was really surprised how much I liked it. Was dead set on getting the Speedy MOTM, but tried this on and wow. It's utter different of course, but I just couldn't not get it. It's not a small watch being a 600 and 45.5mm and more expensive than the hesalite MOTM. But the PO is truly an everyday workhorse watch, and so I was sold. However, the MOTM is still an amazing watch and loved how the hesalite melted away and it looked like the face and dials were so close to "glass". It's definitely a more dressier watch so I have no doubt it will also be a purchase i the future. Great video BTW
I was hoping you owned one of these! I wanted to see this watch in your review style. Love this watch. I'm with you on the caseback though. The 1st gen's caseback was so gorgeous I was hoping they'd just use it.
Excellent review. I too was on the fence with this watch. I almost went for the Rolex Submariner, but couldn't justify the extra money. The PO ticks all the right boxes for me. Mine is on the way.
I feel sure that George Daniels escapement will be the norm within a few years, it is a simple, elegant and brilliant solution to the enormous reduction of friction and the solving of the problem related to the need to lubricate, with all its attendant need for regular servicing and its eventual clogging of the conventional lever escapement. George was a genius. Omega had the courage to realise a game-changer, and let us not forget, George had peddled this design to all the Swiss watch manufacturers for 20 years before Omega took the risk. What risk! George had been testing it in his own hand made wrist watches for years before. In their recent ads, Omega appear to take all the credit for the Co Axiol movement. Shameful!
Traci Ch I believe that with the exception of the hand wound speedmaster, all of Omega's mech. watches have coaxial escapements, but I think it will be unlikely that Daniel's escapement will ever replace the conventional Swiss lever escapement. It is possible that we will see other companies incorporating variants of Daniel's escapement.
Andy What Spectre version? The movie is Skyfall which comes before Spectre. He wore this Planet Ocean. It was even shown as the watch worn in the list of Bond watches in the Omega Lifetime magazine back in 2015.
FYI, he wore two watches in Skyfall. One is this Planet Ocean in the opening scene, then later on when he is "resurrected", he wore the 38.5mm blue Omega Aqua Terra, model reference number 231.10.39.21.03.001.
In Spectre, he wore three watches. During the opening scene in Mexico City, he wears a blue Aqua Terra which is now the Master Co-axial version and in a 41.5mm case. Model ref no. 231.10.42.21.03.003. In the later part of the movie at Q branch, he is given the Omega Spectre 300 on Nato strap. Model ref no. 233.32.41.21.01.001. And lastly during the end scene when he takes back his DB5 from Q branch, he is seen wearing a vintage Omega Chronograph Caliber 321.
Good review, i just love my Omega Planet Ocean 42mm :) I choose between the Planet Ocean 42mm and a Rolex Submariner but the Submariner just didnt feel as good.
to "Jonathan D"...my apologies for deleting your comment. I was trying to reply from the drop down menu from the bell icon (the notification icon). I don't know what happened but I erased your comment by accident. Sorry!
Hi, thanks for a terrific video. I'm kinda torn between buying one of these and a Rolex Submariner 114060 with a new ceramic bezel. What do you think? Cheers.
I just bought one of these today - it arrives Tuesday. You made this video 2 years ago - can I ask - did the watch end up being a keeper - has it stood the test of time or did other niggles manifest themselves? Also wondering if this will be an investment watch worth holding for years to hand to my kid?
so far so good, still keeps the same accuracy as it did before. it's definitely a watch you can hand over to your children. in terms of monetary value, like most watches it probably wouldn't keep good value. the only watch(s) that I can think of that would keep good value would be the sports Rolexes, and those superexpensive complications from the likes of Patek.
IMHO there's more leeway when you're wearing a "tool"/sports watch, so it should look ok. dress watches should fit more proportionately. in addition very often the shape of the wrist (whether its flat or roundish)-not just the circumference- will also determine whether the watch is a good fit or not
I think you make an excellent point of how nice it is to be able to be reminded of how special mechanical timing is, thank you for your well thought out response and your correction concerning conditional vs unconditional. glad you enjoyed the video. overall, how have your experiences been with cal 9300...any issues? (busy ness of the dial aside)
Great review bro !!! Please keep 'em coming ! BTW,have you got any scratches on your PO ? Mine is only 1 month old and already has a few scratches on it... I still can't figure it out
are you sure that's a scratches on the watch? i had the same thing on my old po and they were said on the store that is the antireflex coating, if it looks like some liquid shape the you can be sure that is the antireflex coating and you can make a polish to remove the anti reflex shape
Great review. I'm torn between this model and the orange bezel version (if you know it?). Just wondering if you checked out the orange one and what you think of it? I'm not sure how versatile it is.
To the best of my knowledge there is no white gold on the hands and numbers, so it's just some rhodium plated metal. Thanks for your question and for watching !
I believe it does. The cynical part of me is always thinking that manufacturers are constantly finding ways to cut costs, and my erroneous reasoning frequently leads be to think that sapphire (as in a display back) is always less expensive than steel. I don't know if this is true or not, but it's probably more difficult and hence more costly to produce a clear case back. thanks for watching.
But exactly when is the moment when leaving the deep-hab environment do you hit that helium escape valve, should you do it upon the SCUBA excursion, or is it just for surfacing?
Watch Box Yes, it can. In my opinion there's alot more leeway for sizes if the watches can be thought of as tool watches. a female diver (or a male with a slim wrist) should have a watch as legible as possible, and a bigger watch will most certainly fit the bill so long as the watch can be made to fit comfortably on the wrist. I'm alot more conservative about watch sizes when it comes to "dress" watches, in this case the watch should fit proportionally to the size of the wrist.
there are only 2 ways to set the date #1. fastest way: rotate hr hand only until you get the date you want #2. slower way: rotate both hands until you get the date you want there is no quickset date on this watch.
After saving for ages my wife purchased me the Omega Planet Ocean for me beating cancer. If we had of know how much trouble this $12.500 watch was going to be we would never have purchased it.The watch has been a DUD from the start and just been returned for the THIRD time with moisture in it.The first two times Omega just said it was fine and passed all test but it still got moisture into it.I have told the supplier that it is unaseptable and I insist on a full refund. ( good luck with that )This watch has never been in the ocean or shower and should never get moisture in it from washing ones hands. In summary this watch has give us more grief than the cancer did.Has anyone out there had any major problems with their Omega watches because I love to hear about it
+Morris Wallace Very glad to hear that you beat the cancer :) ! As far as the watch is concerned, you obviously got a lemon. I don't understand why Omega hasn't been able to remedy the problem. Maybe third times the charm. Let us know what happens. Thanks for chiming in.
vikingfortiesfaeroes I tried on that limited edition one with the orange bezel numbers, is that the one you're referring to...very solid, attractive timepiece
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS Yes indeed, I went in to the Omega store in Oxford Street in London and salivated over it briefly. The staff offered me champagne which I refused straight away
vikingfortiesfaeroes that was the smart thing to do, nothing better to loosen the purse strings than a few drinks :). I think that watch also comes with some kind of "bamboo" box (or some other kind of unusual wood?)
+TheAeromuse It's just my personal opinion of course but I feel that tool watches or watches with a tool like vibe to it should have a solid caseback, protects the movement better and looks more "serous". I don't mind having a display back on a dress watch esp one with a nicely embellished movement, but for a tool/tool like watch I would prefer a solid back.....still not a deal breaker depending on the watch in question otherwise I wouldn't have bought the PO.
Thanks for your review. I love this watch too. But like said before - the back of the watch like it is - is an eye catcher. So for me, I put the Planet Ocean over the regular Seamaster - because of the "Design" HE valve and the back glass. Mine is doing also about + 1 s per day.Great nice watch in this price range.... but there is no doubt that the prices went sky high during the last years ...
The last I purchased was a Nomos which I thought was "reasonably priced" at a little over 2k, but in general watch prices are definitely getting very expensive. My feeling is that a lot of dealers having problems moving inventory , the glaring exceptions being the various SS Rolex sports models. Thanks for watching ! Glad you're happy with your PO
In the earlier versions of the PO the hands were a turn off, but after Omega modified the hands slightly they look perfectly fine to me. The lack of a quick micro adjustment is not an usual for me, I never had to readjust it since I first got it.
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS No disagree , hands still don’t look right & in the summer it’s a pain without micro adjustments as wrists Do increase in size , also don’t like helium escape valve (joke-who Uses that )sticking out IMHO
I accidently deleted the following comment. Jonathan Dauterive +NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS - You can pick them up for around $4,000 USD through some reputable sources. It's killing me... I have the money for one but it's going towards a trip to Europe this coming year. This will ultimately end up being my heirloom timepiece purchase in the near future.
+NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS yes, you can pick them up for less. after I got my watch i found it for $ 900 cheaper online, but for watches of this price range I'm always wary of going to an unauthorized AD. thanks for watching
Helium escape valve is necessary if you are a diver, helium will bypass the watertight seals and in a decompression chamber you have to release it. As a deep diver I've used mine on my 300M many times. What Omega should do is release a model that is marketed at the fashion accessory buyer who wouldn't have the need I guess.
+Vavazelus thanks for the quick reply. just wanted to know if joma ships unfilled omega warranty card. I guess not since it's grey market. still a great price. thanks.
Thanks for your response. I understand your response but it's been many years since my last French class in college, so I can only reply to you in English. Omega is a great brand with a long history. Thanks for watching.
With the shower, it's the high temp of the water that could be a problem. If the watch is exposed to very hot water too often the O rings might weaken due to the heat. Same logic goes for not wearing the watch in a hot tub
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS, Yes, hot water and “solvents” are hell on gaskets. Not to mention a close quarters, hard surface area. Watch would be safer 2000ft down in salt water.
How the hell is hot water going to penetrate screw down crowns and case backs? I've taken my 100m non-diver Seiko that costs $140 into multiple hot tubs and showers with zero issues. I don't know why this makes me mad. Quit being pussies with your dive watches....watches that were designed to be in water, lol!
bluemystic7501, Probably true, but why subject a watch to such a harsh environment when it can just be removed and put back on. I imagine one would have to remove the watch after showering to dry off under the bracelet anyway. My planet ocean will not be showering with me anytime soon, regardless of how sexy it is.
Unequivocally agree with you on all accounts.
I think the liquid bezel is with the TITANIUM version which is even more expensive, beautiful watch regardless
the liquid bezel is pretty awesome. although I have ti watches I have a bigger preference for stainless steel.
This is probably one of the best reviews I have ever seen. Real info about the movement, not just the case, bracelet and dial. Very well done.
+Ronnie DJ I'm glad you found it enjoyable and informative, thank you so much for watching :)
i like the first one the best. the 2500 is the all arounder timeless design. the one is pretty nice as well.
I passed on the 2500 because I heard about problems with the movement. The 8500 was designed from the ground up so I assumed that whatever bugs that may or may not have been in the 2500 were addressed
@@369168 my 2500 ran for almost 15 years wo a maintenance
That's great to know ! I hope my 8500 can do the same
Thanks for the nice review.
My hats off to Omega for doing their own movements now.
+1 thanks for watching
You could be right...
Just bought this watch in 45.5mm. Im waiting for it to arrive at my local AD. Just watching your fantastic review again. Keep up the good work!!!
+badger box that's great !!! it'll be on your wrist before you know it. thanks for watching my review again! let us know when you get it.
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS Had the watch for a year on January the 11th. An absolutely amazing piece. When I got it from new at the AD, it gained 6 seconds per day, now it gains 4 seconds per week. Great watch. Great review.
This my friend is the best version of the Planet Ocean.

Your review videos are much appreciated and I look forward to each one. Please keep em coming!
thanks so much. I'm really happy you enjoy them. more videos to come. stay tuned.
By far the most informative review I have seen so far. Keep up the excellent work!
thanks so much! glad you found it informative :)
I had the 2500 version in 45.5mm prior to buying my ceramic sub and it was just way too big. Beautiful watch though, always thought the PO was the best of the Seamasters. I think 42mm is a good compromise.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but ETA makes the 8500 movement for Omega
Omega caliber is very loosely referred to as being "in house", but ETA (which is owned by the Swatch group)and a whole bunch of other companies (some of which are probably owned by Swatch as well) collaborated to build the 8500.
I still love my "Goldeneye" quartz. Not overly thrilled by the newer models.

I think the only 8500 PO that has a solid caseback is the Sochi LE, so if your like the 45mm size and the dial you're good to go. thanks for watching
Excellent review. I too was on the fence with this watch. I almost went for the Rolex Submariner, but couldn't justify the extra money. The PO ticks all the right boxes for me. Mine is on the way.
Just realized I already posted on this video. Ha! I'm a video stalker!
now I know I hit the big time...my first stalker ! :)

Great watch.. I prefer the Aqua Terra but Plant Ocean is still phenomenal
the AT is a great watch, I just don't like the teak wood lines on the dial.

As worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall during the opening scene in Istanbul!
He actually wore the Spectre version, but yes.

And lastly during the end scene when he takes back his DB5 from Q branch, he is seen wearing a vintage Omega Chronograph Caliber 321.
love your channel, you get to detail and explain. great job.
Thanks for watching, glad you like my channel ! :)
Thank you very professional review, and very informative.
thank you so much. and thank for taking a few minutes to watch !
Thanks so much for watching !
very good review on an awesome watch
Charles Walhingford thanks so much. !
Good review, i just love my Omega Planet Ocean 42mm :)
I choose between the Planet Ocean 42mm and a Rolex Submariner but the Submariner just didnt feel as good.
when you mean it "didn't feel as good" are you referring to wearing comfort or just the overall impression the Submariner left you?
I mean that it just didnt feel as good on the wrist and didnt look as good as the PO but that is ofc my opinion.
as I understand it, you use the He release value when you're in the decompression chamber, otherwise the crystal might pop off
to "Jonathan D"...my apologies for deleting your comment. I was trying to reply from the drop down menu from the bell icon (the notification icon). I don't know what happened but I erased your comment by accident. Sorry!
Very good review. Thank you.
Ich hatte einmal so eine Uhr. Die ging in einer Woche 2. Minuten vor. Für einen Chronometer vielleicht etwas zu viel oder.
Hi, thanks for a terrific video. I'm kinda torn between buying one of these and a Rolex Submariner 114060 with a new ceramic bezel. What do you think? Cheers.
fuck i have the same issue
Nicklaus Holme,
What did you end up doing?
I just bought one of these today - it arrives Tuesday. You made this video 2 years ago - can I ask - did the watch end up being a keeper - has it stood the test of time or did other niggles manifest themselves? Also wondering if this will be an investment watch worth holding for years to hand to my kid?

thanks alot! and thanks for watching
i got a 16.5inch wrist. how do you think the 45.5mm PO 8500 would fit? ridiculous? subtle?
IMHO there's more leeway when you're wearing a "tool"/sports watch, so it should look ok. dress watches should fit more proportionately. in addition very often the shape of the wrist (whether its flat or roundish)-not just the circumference- will also determine whether the watch is a good fit or not
If you've got a 16.5 inch wrist I think you need to see a doctor :-p
Serioulsy, follow James' advice, go see a doctor.
Great review! :)
Regarding the automatic helium valve, I think this might be patented by Rolex, so that's why Omega hasn't got this on their watches.
do you know if it has any gold inside of it?
+kidusa100 not to my knowledge. thanks for watching.

The only obvious scratches are on the clasp. its possible that there are hairline scratches on the case from normal use and abuse, but nothing obvious
I'm sure it is !!! It's the bracelet that's being scratched off,not the crystal. Btw,thank you so much for replying !!! It does help a lot 🙏
Great review. I'm torn between this model and the orange bezel version (if you know it?). Just wondering if you checked out the orange one and what you think of it? I'm not sure how versatile it is.
Are the numbers and hands rhodium plated white gold or some other type of rhodium plated metal? If so, which one? Thanks for a great review!
To the best of my knowledge there is no white gold on the hands and numbers, so it's just some rhodium plated metal. Thanks for your question and for watching !
Isn't it more expensive to have a clear back movement? Thx
Didn’t show the Lume. 😢
Great review! Beautiful watch and I am sure you will have a "good time" wearing it. Enjoy!
I really enjoy wearing this watch. comfortable, and keeps great time. thanks for watching
But exactly when is the moment when leaving the deep-hab environment do you hit that helium escape valve, should you do it upon the SCUBA excursion, or is it just for surfacing?
A rugged, but classy looking watch. The 42mm version can even work on some ladies' wrist!
You only need to go between 7 and 12 to adjust the date, no need to wind 24 hours.
there are only 2 ways to set the date
#1. fastest way: rotate hr hand only until you get the date you want
#2. slower way: rotate both hands until you get the date you want
there is no quickset date on this watch.
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS You can do a quick date setting by winding the hour hand forward pass 12 or backward pass 7.
oh, I didn't know that, I will give it a try. thanks!
ok,I think I know what your saying...instead of spinning the 24 hr hand 1 complete revolution, just go between 7 and 12. never thought of that.
Are you sure there’s no quick set for the date?
no quick set.
Its not to bulky or uncomfortable on the wrist?
it's definitely not a slim diver, and can be perceived as being a little bulky. the watch has heft but is not uncomfortable on the wrist.
I'd love to get me a blue GMT one. Don't have the necessary £5000 though...
vikingfortiesfaeroes I tried on that limited edition one with the orange bezel numbers, is that the one you're referring to...very solid, attractive timepiece
Why would it be "nice if it would be a solid case back" rather than a transparent one...?
Glad you're happy with your PO
yes, watches have really gotten expensive, i'm just happy I got my watches when they weren't too ridiculously expensive.
It says chronometer on the front under co-axial above 600m/2000 ft lol good review tho ..
+arzemagic Yikes !! another "misspeak"...thanks for pointing that out :), I stand corrected. thanks for watching!
I just made me smile .
I love omega😍😍
Great watches. Thier vintage pieces are very nice too
Planet ocean is a great watch but I don’t like the hands & lack of micro adjustment on the fly at this price point , sorry 😐
How much does it cost ?
I meant rubber strap not rubber bracelet
I accidently deleted the following comment.
Jonathan Dauterive
+NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS - You can pick them up for around $4,000 USD through some reputable sources.
Wie soll ich darauf Antworten?
Helium escape valve is necessary if you are a diver, helium will bypass the watertight seals and in a decompression chamber you have to release it. As a deep diver I've used mine on my 300M many times. What Omega should do is release a model that is marketed at the fashion accessory buyer who wouldn't have the need I guess.
agreed. thanks for watching
$ 6200 USD MSRP
Wow! That is what I call a door buster deal! Congrats!
+Vavazelus did you receive omega warranty card from joma?
+Vavazelus thanks for the quick reply. just wanted to know if joma ships unfilled omega warranty card. I guess not since it's grey market. still a great price. thanks.
Thanks for share man, subscribed.
But you deserve a better "name" in TH-cam... ;D
See you.
Pour moi la Montre OMÉGA est la meilleure montre du monde
Thanks for your response. I understand your response but it's been many years since my last French class in college, so I can only reply to you in English. Omega is a great brand with a long history. Thanks for watching.
Doing a watch review without showing the watch on the wrist is like doing a car review without even driving it.
You've got a valid point, and perhaps I will considering doing some wrist shots in the future.
lol, not removing except for shower. My god is a 600meters Watch :D
With the shower, it's the high temp of the water that could be a problem. If the watch is exposed to very hot water too often the O rings might weaken due to the heat. Same logic goes for not wearing the watch in a hot tub
Good watch, but way too thick. Completely unwearable and uncomfortable
Just got one it's fine I have a suit on had no problem at all
Removing it for shower????? a 600 m diver funny
its the relatively high temp of the water that could be an issue. too much exposure to such water may soften and weaken the gaskets
Nonsense. Complete nonsense.
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS,
Yes, hot water and “solvents” are hell on gaskets.
Quit being pussies with your dive watches....watches that were designed to be in water, lol!
bluemystic7501,
Probably true, but why subject a watch to such a harsh environment when it can just be removed and put back on.
I imagine one would have to remove the watch after showering to dry off under the bracelet anyway.
My planet ocean will not be showering with me anytime soon, regardless of how sexy it is.
Ich hatte einmal so eine Uhr. Die ging in einer Woche 2. Minuten vor. Für einen Chronometer vielleicht etwas zu viel oder.
