    I watch you film and I always wonder if you’re afraid of someone grabbing your camera! 🤣 (off the ground, as you film walking away, etc)
    You reminded me of a favorite quote of my favorite artist:
    “Always go a little further into the water than you feel you're capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don't feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you're just about in the right place to do something exciting.” ~ David Bowie
    Love watching your travels 💫

      Love that Bowie quite! I keep a close eye on my camera and I’m only away from it for seconds. So, fingers crossed no opportunist shows up at exactly the right moment to really ruin my day.

    Great balance of driving/hiking/scenery/talking!
    Regarding fear…important topic, I think especially for women. We are taught to be fearful, especially in cities, and often for good reason. My approach is to try to nail what is a at the bottom of my fears, and then how realistic it is. Hiking alone? I’m cautious of strangers, especially men, for personal safety reasons. That’s a much higher risk in urban areas statistically, in spite of a few horror stories. So I keep my awareness on high but try to relax. And carry pepper spray. Animals? They will generally avoid us if we don’t creep up-if that bison is noticing you, back off! Noises in the night used to be a biggie. Now, unless it’s snuffling beside my tent and I brought in a steak sandwich, I’m probably fine. You’ll work through them over time! I look forward to following your travels.

    Gurl, I was giving the poached eggs and potatoes the side eye, but then you said it was one of your best plates. So fascinating seeing you eat without refrigeration. My Dad wouldn't let us drive until we could change a spare tire. When we were teens, if we got a flat, he would make us change it. Basically, make sure the car is not rolling, put the jack on something solid under the car. Lift the car enough to get the tire off and on. loosen the nuts. Take off tire, put back on. Do you have AAA? I have not changed my own tire since I got AAA. But they can take forever to show up. Also, I have found that when I started to take off my tire, a guy would usually show up and finish changing it for me. Great words of wisdom about fear. Your trips are reaffirming that I need to do something like this myself.

    • @nicolewise
      @nicolewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don’t side eye my poached eggs!! They were delish! I do have AAA. I also now have flixaflat. Honestly, the most Intimidating part of changing my own tire is removing and replacing the spare from under the van.

  • @blissmersionchannel

    This was one of my favorite videos. I’m scared of everything also and still try to forge ahead and do it anyway. However, I have a family, so I don’t have to go alone at this point. I rarely get alone time, in fact. Anyway, love the videos! You touched on your lack of fridge during your last roadtrip. Are you still without a cooler? This fascinates me. In Mexico, I got used to not refrigerating eggs and now, I have to make an effort to remember to put them in the fridge. Do yours last in the US without being in the fridge? Safe travels!

    • @nicolewise
      @nicolewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Still no refrigeration. Eggs last a little while unrefrigerated. I try to only buy 6 at a time and eat them quickly. You probably know this but the US removes a protective coating on eggs, but they are still ok for a little while.

      @@nicolewise I know right? I made the mistake of buying a bag as part of my Hurricane Fiona prep thinking it’d be an easy thing to heat up in a camp stove and it was… inedible. Looks so tasty and convenient in the store tho’. I think if I ever use that product again I’d stick with the plain unflavoured white basmati.

    I must tell you never get that close to wild animals and they can be lightening fast, stay as close to your vehicle as possible. But you did get great footage. Since having both knees operated on I can no longer change a tire and that is my fear a flat.

    • @nicolewise
      @nicolewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my defense I was only steps from my vehicle. Also, I get much closer in upcoming videos….or should I say, they get closer to me, while inside my van. Yeah car trouble in the middle of nowhere is very scary.

  • @halifaxhiker
    @halifaxhiker ปีที่แล้ว

    Someone told me once, the most (potentially) dangerous animal you’ll encounter in the wilderness is… other people. That’s probably right. Altho’ I wouldn’t look forward to encountering a brown bear 🙂
