Lol
My Sienna is a wheelchair van also. I did seal this area with silicon and it hasn't leaked since. We haven't had a massive amount of rain, but several days with like half an inch and it has been sitting in the exact same location as before. As the author of this video mentioned, it might not be a permanent fix and the best way is to have them replace the assembly, but I am guessing it's very expensive.
My 2017 limited sienna same thing. The custom upholstery guy is charging me $900 to 1100 to just take out assembly and silicone it. I don't know what to do.
My 2015 Limited Premium leaks from the passenger seat belt adjuster area, the top of the A pillar has a water stain, and it can leak from around the plastic sunroof bezel with high pressure car washes. Think it could be more than blocked tubes?
Try blowing out the drain tube is always the first recommended step, and then you open the sunroof and slowly pour a bottle of water in each drain to see if the water drains out. If it drains at a good rate, then you should suspect the sealant area.
@@TheYotaChannel I don't have an air compressor to blow it out, nor can I really even find the drain holes for the front sunroof. I've been feeling around for them with weed trimmer line. Only managed to find the rear sunroof's front drain holes. Unfortunately, I now have a diagnostic appointment in a couple of days at a dealership because no mechanics that I've called will do it as a service.
can the rear sunroof be adjusted so it seals better with the roof? Is there a way to adjust it like the front sunroof? My rear sunroof doesn’t seem to be flush with the top of the roof. Thank you!
The adjustment procedure should be the same as the front. If you look at the glass on each side(left and right), there should be about 4 or 5 torx screws mounting it to the sunroof assembly. Just loosen the screws. there's no need to remove them completely, and that should allow you to adjust the glass. You will need an assistant to help you look on the outside. Once it's leveled to the body the way you like it, simply tighten back up the screws.
Thanks for posting this info. I have a 2016 sienna limited that leaks from this area and the drains are clear and working. Is it possible to seal anything in the drain channel from the top (silicone, etc) with the sunroof open that would prevent water from getting to that joint (leak spot) you show in the video in the first place?
Also, I noticed that it looked like the new assembly did not seem to have the black sealant that the old assembly had in the trouble area - is that accurate?
Hey, unfortunately, there is no way of applying silicone to seal the sunroof assembly. It will be hard to seal every corner. You should try calling Toyota Customer support. I've seen them help out customers regarding this issue
I noticed you mentioned to someone to "peek" under the headliner to confirm if this is the leak spot - what all do you need to disassemble to get a peek at it? Thanks for any help!@@TheYotaChannel
I have a dual sunroof 2017 Sienna Limited and I recently have a leak at the eyeglasses holder between the sunroof and the front glass which drips on to the HVAC controls. Not sure if the problem is the front glass or front sunroof.
Same as mine i removed the headliner and turn out to be the sunroof the black trim where the the guy indicated so i will seal it with silicon and see if its work
@@TheYotaChannel Yes Sir. You have helped me solve a very perplexing issue my local Toyota dealer could not figure out. I thank you for that. I bought Toyota trusting the quality of the build to have a long lasting vehicle. This is not what i expected. Also had to just replace Water pump after 50k miles.
@@hheller2335 We had this exact issue with our Toyota Sienna bought used. But we asked Toyota dealership where they were doing repair to advocate hard with Toyota corporate regarding covering costs on this and they DID! I'm sticking with Toyota because they were willing to stand behind their product, even when it was a 6,000 fix (front and back sunroof replacements).
My 2017 has this issue. I can pour water directly in the tray and it immediately drains from both sides. However if I park on a slight incline I get a small drip from the plastic dome light / sunroof control housing on the headliner.
Hi Jrdagreat, I noticed that the holes and brackets where the subassembly is attached to the vehicle allow for some movement/adjustment. Is it difficult to realign the assembly when installing it back in the vehicle - any tricks you use to get it to line up exactly as before? - Do you leave the glass attached when removing and installing or do you take that out beforehand to make it lighter - thanks!
My 2019 sienna limited rear sunroof has a leak on the driver side. There is a crack in the sunroof assembly which is causing water to get into the cabin and causing mold in the headliner and under the carpet. Extended warranty and car insurance won't pay to fix it. What do you recommend I do to help resolve this issue?
Im sorry to hear that. You can try going to your local Toyota dealer where you get your car serviced, and ask the manager to see if Toyota can help you with the repair. If that doesn't work, you can call Toyota customer support line yourself directly and explain your situation. Tickle their ears a little bit, explain how much you love Toyota, and thats all you and your family drive, and its a shame that a 2019, barely 5 years old, limited at that, is growing mold on the headliner. Being nice with the rep can go a long way
They should be able to assist. With Toyota, I've seen them help customers out that are way out of warranty. Remember, let them know how much you love Toyota 😉
@@TheYotaChannel Thanks for this input. You diagnosed our issue with Toyota Sienna and we did exactly as you recommended. Toyota corporate covered the replacement on front and back sunroof even though we purchased ours used from a different dealership than where the repair was being done. They have our loyalty for life. They've earned it!
The map light in the front has no screws. You need a trim tool in the shape of a crow bar or with a 90-degree bend to get in between the headliner and map light to pull down. I like to get from the corners. They're on there pretty tight. It takes a little effort
They wouldn't issue a recall because it's not a safety related issue. But i do believe that with the number of customers experiencing this issue, they should have a customer support program available for owners to cover the cost.
Our 2015 limited seems to be leaking everywhere! Front drivers side floor, front seat belts, AND sunroofs. I cant believe it, I have owned so many Toyotas (love them) & never expected this when we bought it last year.
Try calling your insurance company and see if they can help. If not, try calling the Toyota customer support line to see if they can assist with the repair bill. They usually do help, especially if its a known issue.
After trying to clear the drains, the leak was still there. Today I did my best to seal the section you pointed out (where silver and black meet) with silicon. It hasn't rained yet, so I am waiting to see if it works. Are you saying if I bring it to Toyota, they won't seal the little gap, they will replace the entire assembly? Would it be better to bring it to a body shop and see if they can just do a better job of sealing it? I'm not too keen on removing the entire headliner.
It's very hard to try and seal those joints in the car. A body shop would have to remove it to do the job anyway, at that point you might as well get a new sunroof assembly,
@@love2jibe yes, this solved the problem. It was only the passenger side. I filled the area with silicon. I used a glove and stuffed it with my finger. It hasn't leaked since and we had quite a bit of rain a few times.
Oh, I can see what the author meant, though. If I were a dealer or shop, I would not want to put faith in a bit of silicon in that somewhat awkward spot. The proper solution is to fix it correctly like the video shows, but in the meantime, it is working for me.
We are desperate and don't know what to do! Your video just diagnosed our problem and explained what the dealership couldn't seem to... The only thing they could explain was that it would be 4,400. to replace the sunroof on our van that has 100k miles on it! Water running down passenger seat belt, headliner stained and soaked, floor board soaked... stinks! It's the nicest vehicle we own (2017 XLE dual roof SIENNA) and we lost money on our lease vehicle to buy it, because I wanted to go back to Toyota! I am being punished for that decision! Sorry, you have a bad sunroof and you will have to pay... this happens over time! What the heck? My husband is driving a 12 year old Toyota truck with sunroof with zero problems. I don't have to look far to see this has been a dual sunroof problem. Why am I paying for Toyota's oversight? What would you do Jrdagreat?

Let them know you are a big fan of Toyota and how disappointed you are, and you are just looking for some help. I've seen them warranty out parts that were way out of the warranty time period.
Hi Jrdagreat, When you replace the sunroof assembly do you use the same glass/seals - do you replace anything else related to the leak or just the assembly. Lastly, you mentioned the 10mm bolts that hold the assembly in - is the assembly held in or set in a sealant anywhere or just the bolts?, Thanks for your help!!
Hello, it's a good idea to inspect the glass and the seal around it while you have everything removed. As far as the sunroof assembly, once you line up the 10mm bolt going around it to the roof, everything should line up, and therefore, you don't need to apply silicone anywhere. Just reconnect your drain tubes, and you should be good to go.
Thanks for the info! - So does the sunroof leak from the spot you mentioned simply because the sealant between the black plastic and aluminum frame gives out or is water not supposed to reach that seam in the first place? I'm trying to figure out if there is something wrong on the top side of the track that allows this or if the water is simply slipping by that worn out black seant - thanks!!
I'm having the same problem now. Water is leaking down from above passenger seat belt. I Checked all my drained hole and it is draining. Im thinking I might have the same sealed leak. Damn it!
Do you have the dual sunroof as well? If you do, have a friend pour water with a water hose while the sunroof is closed, and see if you see water seeping from the sealant area while you are inside the car
We have a dual roof 2017 XLE Sienna. Leaking is awful! Headliner soaked... Passenger seat belt wet and dripping. Passenger floorboard wet. Toyota just quoted us 4,400. to replace sunroof.
