    Really appreciate this, water was coming inside and shorting the wires going to the starter relay.
    I was washing the car and the starter started turning over the engine, I pulled out the starter relay to stop it. There was 12volts supplying the relay. Next day it dried up inside and the 12volts was no longer there.
    Now I know how to resolve this issue thanks to you!🙏

    I appreciate your direct explanation of the problem and a simple solution that can be used to fix this problem. I have an old 09 venza limited with the sunroof has too many miles to justify spending lots of money to fix this problem. Will be doing this soon myself, thanks for the tip.

    I appreciate your solution, this may help some as a temporary fix. The main issue with the panoroof leaks with Venza's is the foam adhesive they used on the earlier models was a bad batch. The issue was fixed with the later models, I think around 2014. It is well documented if you do a simple search.
    The seal that surrounds the entire panoroof frame expires prematurely, allowing water to infiltrate anywhere along the seal. In a heavy rainfall or if all the open channels surrounding the panoroof are filled with crud the water does not drain fast enough, in turn flooding the channels, and depending if your Venza is parked level or on an incline, water can leak anywhere on both sides along any or all pillars.
    Here is a very good video from a person that worked on a Toyota assembly line for decades, takes apart the entire panoroof cartridge and shows the expired foam glue.

    The dealership just quoted us $5,400 to fix this, so I'm glad I found this video!
    Question: can you still use the moon roof once you've (re)sealed it this way?

      Yes you can still use the moonroof once fixed.
      I only sealed the front part as mine was only leaking at the front 2 corners. If yours is leaking all around then it will need to be resealed all around.

      @@mechanicunderthetree7543 THANK YOU! The dealership literally told us that if we didn't get it entirely removed/rebuilt, we'd have to go to an after-market place to get it sealed and we'd never be able to use the moonroof again.

      I"m having a friend reseal the entire roof in the next couple of weeks on my 2010. Mine has creaked and popped due to the nuts not being torqued properly from the factory which is ridiculous. I"m sure that accelerates the seal breaking around the roof and mine leaks from front to back after going through an automated carwash (with pigmented soap stains now!) One other much cheaper option is to have a shop cover the entire roof including the panoramic roof with clear (or gloss black even) UV rated vinyl. You can still open the sunroof shade to let light in that way but pull the fuse so you don't accidentally try to use the sunroof. Decent option if you don't care about actually opening the sunroof itself and only about $500.00

    Great video, thanks so much! Do you have to let the silicone cure completely before reassembling?

    • @mechanicunderthetree7543
      @mechanicunderthetree7543  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes every silicone has a setting time and then a curing time which is usually around 24-72 hours, depending on what brand it is. I let it set still until it's past the curing time.

    This is a fantastic video, and thanks! Just checking - do you feel this can all be done without disassembling the headliner and trim on the A pillars?

    • @mechanicunderthetree7543
      @mechanicunderthetree7543  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yes you don't need to remove anything, that was removed just to diagnose where exactly the water was coming in from. You just need to remove the front glass piece. Clean the surface and put some silicone.
      Rest was done to diagnose and demonstrate where exactly the leak is coming from, as when I started the job, i couldn't find any good video for the repair.

    Very helpful, thanks for posting! Same issue with my Venza, and I do not want to disassemble the interior to remove the assembly! Does your sunroof creak and pop when the chassis flexes, like when you're pulling into a steep driveway? I think that's what originally breaks the seal. I'm curious if the silicone can flex that much.

      Yes this silicone flexes pretty well. I did it about 6 months ago and it is holding pretty good so far. I have been putting it through automatic car washes and been holding pretty well. Before it used to drip a lot inside.

    What silicone did you use for this?

    Was yours only leaking in those front two spots? Mine is leaking in those spots, but also 4 spots in the back. Any recommendations?
