- I just picked up this 1999 BMW Z3 (2.3). It has this really odd problem. When I press the clutch in, an electrical relay type noise goes off and stays that way until you let off the clutch. Almost sounds like a blinker frankly. No clue. Love any help you might suggest. I'm considering replacing the clutch position sensor. I do also sometimes have issue starting the car. I end up need to move the seat, remove the key and start over. Not sure why but that does suggest a clutch position sensor issue.
UPDATE 9/14/19: Confirmed the noise is coming from the EWS 3.D Module. Still working the resolution.
Hi did you sort out the problem is so how did you fix it as I’ve just brought a z3 and does the same thing do you have a video or can you share the information
Thanks
Interestingly I forgot about this noise. It stopped...I'll have to go check to see if I just stopped noticing it... IMO, this is the order of things to check and change in cost order. 1. Check the Fuse for the DMU. I forget which it is but it's listed. Obviously if the car starts it's extremely unlikely to be an issue but you could replace it for the $1.00. 2. Replace the clutch sensor switch. It's under the dash attached to the clutch. It was like $50 at Autozone. Note, DO NOT hotwire the switch, it's not mechanical as I thought and you'll blow the DMU fuse (which I did). 3. If no, I would probably bring to a service place to inquire. If you don't want to do that, you could send in your DMU to have it refurbished but it's not cheap. It cost me like $600 to do that, there are a number of companies that do that. You send you keys with the unit. That 100% confirms the DMU is not an issue. After that, i'm not sure unfortunately. Try the clutch switch. Seems the easiest to do which any probability of fixing. Take 10minutes to change. Good luck...
Also, did find what was making that noise. Must not have done a video. I can't recall what it was exactly but it was under the steering console. Maybe it was the DMU. Sorry, I forget.
No such thang as v6 z3
Fair. Inline 6. Good catch...
