    Not sure why but I love that the Empire uses a credit card swipe machine. So much of the Star Wars aesthetic is based in the late 70s (eg. the moustaches), it's great.

      Even the video monitors are old school instead of flat screens and the graphics pretty much stay true to what was possible in the 70s. Meanwhile somebody at the other Star franchise felt it necessary to retroactively redesign everything from the ground up for no good reason

    We get to see Cassian have a moment of pure joy ... when he comes home and he thinks he has "made it". Maarva and Clem made a big score, and settled down on Ferrix, while saving Kassa's life. Cassian thinks he's doing the same ... he got a lucky big score, and he's going to move his family somewhere comfortable and safe.
    That moment of joy is messed up by Maarva's choice to stay and fight. But she does tell him to run away and find some peace, and Cassian does so because he has to.
    We do see that Cassian is in a lovely fancy resort ... he's got the money to afford a nice planet to hide out on ... but we don't see joy in him. He was never in it for the money. He was never in it for himself.

      That's a beautiful interpretation. It feels like with every episode we discover a new side of Cassian, which is great. At some point it'll reach a hight where Andor finally realizies what he really wants to do.
      Him paying his depths kinda tells us that from now on, he'll start a new life. I've a feeling within the next arc Andor finally finds out what he really wants to do in life.

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      It's also a lesson Cassian needs to take before he goes from skilled thief to skilled spy. Cassian was dressed wrong. Cassian moved wrong. If Cassian dressed and moved and talked like Syril or Dedra, the trooper would have assumed he was a good galactic citizen and ignored him. Someone with money isn't worth arresting and might be able to fight the system because they know people and have influence. The Shore Trooper saw Cassian dressed frumpily, dressed like a local, moving furtively, trying to evade attention, and saw someone that was guilty of something. The Trooper wasn't actually wrong to trust his instincts that Cassian was a criminal, he just couldn't have known why Cassian was actually afraid.

    This scene is a turning point. He tells Maarva they need to leave to get out of the cold and damp oppressive place Ferrix has become. Especially with how they're on a beach paradise planet where everyone should be chilled out and enjoying life. Yet everything just seems so out of place. It feels unnatural. Wrong even. Perhaps it's the lighting that does it for me. Even though there's blue skies and there are different species wearing different colours, everything feels brown or gray.
    Which is interesting because now that I think about it, all throughout the series, everything has been dark colours to give off this "dark, poor, dirty, gritty" feeling, yet I feel like they had more colour in them than this sequence. Feel that is, I don't know if they did or not.

    This interim episode between arcs is one of the best in the show. I don't think the Niamos or Cyril scenes are weird at all - they're some of the most unique and interesting settings we've seen from Disney. They make sense for their respective characters while expanding the Star Wars universe in a way that doesn't break prior lore or rely on nostalgic set pieces.
    Also, gotta give credit for being able to work in some subtle humour without distracting entirely from the serious tone of Cassian's and Cyril's situations.

      I think what they try to convey here is that imperials (including this shoretrooper) heavily abuse the justice system, especially now that the ISB is way more strict in regards to crimes. They want to establish full authority by arresting people left and right and want to intimidate and scare civilians, because there's no better way to rule than with fear.

    to me (and how the guy from the video says) Niamos looks like it was meant to be a more evolved version of an Earth-like civilization. Take for example like Miami but way more evolved compared to us (tho it's technically in the past) it has the futuristic synth and drum pattern in the intro music, it has blue flamingos instead of pink, round buildings instead if squared, but the environment is the same or very similar; the water behaves the same way, the sand looks pretty similar, there are some sort of light poles, the palm trees are similar, and the creatures are mostly human or have a human-like figure. Ik there's also CGI budget reasons but they could change it if they wanted it to look different from Earth.

    Don't forget that the new powers the Imperial military has received through the promotion of the ISB to Palpatines right hand will lead to anyone getting arrested, jailed, tortured, executed and what not. Remember that felonies are now considered "Class 1". This means that unlucky ones will be punished harder which is also the case of "innocent" Andor. This will be his wakeup call for Andor to fight back!

    It seems random, but likely the Force is at work. Andor now will see the Empire for what it is: all-pervasive, inescapable, injustice. When the Rebels come to tie off his loose end, they will have an alternative to offer. His acceptance may be provisional, but in stages his heart will come into the fight.
