  • There comes a time when you need to replace your cars brake discs / rotors and this time came for me as well, it already came quite some time ago, but I didnt try to do it as soon as possible, but here now I have done it!
If you wonder how to replace your Renault Megane 2 brake pads or rotors on my video I am showing how to do it. To be honest this is rather easy work and I think it is possible to DIY. But be aware that you might need some special tools to make this a lot easier, like e18 socket, ratchet, some extensions, 30 MM socket, 15 and 13 mm spanners, jack, tools to remove tire, e.g. for me 17mm wrench, some extensions to make it easier to unbolt the 30mm central nut, brake piston rewind tool, of course a new brake pads and rotors with bearings +bolts!!!
If you want to replace just brake pads, well then it is a lot easier, since then you can do the work within 5 minutes!!
As well it will be good if you will have some anti seize (I didnt have) , e.g. copper grease..
Speaking about torque force, I have read that for Renault Megane 2 it is good if you torque the rear central nut up to 175 Nm, as well I have read that it used to be 270Nm, so opinion is different about forces, but as you seen on video I didnt use dynamo wrench at all and I personally dont find it absolutely necessary to torque central nut to the very Nm if you have experience with tightening bolts..
Any way if you wonder more about how to replace brake discs or brake pads, just watch my video, there you can see tool I used, parts I used and how I did it, overall I would rate this as work that if you get lucky (nor of bolts breaks while you try to get loosen them), is easy to do at home, as extra cost for special tools I would recommend you to buy brake piston reminder tool, should not cost more than $10 + will be useful for front and in future!

Thanks for your video. I was today given up, cause couldn't loosen the 2 bolts holding (E18) When I see you do this in snow.... Well; you gave me new energy. If you can do it in snow, I can do it in 15+ degrees in the danish spring.

Good video and well done for doing it in the snow! You should use threadlock on the calliper bolts though, and grease for the slider bolts

I think this is a great video, thank you, but nobody mentions the magnetic ABS rings that don't come on the new discs. You must remove them from the back of the old discs and put on the new. It's a really important step otherwise the ABS warning light, and the service soon spanner will illuminate permanently without them.

But do you think anyone sells those discs without it for this Megane 2 model? I looked online and my part seller sells just with abs ring and bearing, or without bearing and so without abs ring, since the ring is within the bearing.

@@JUrtanschannel 100% eurocarparts uk, 2 weeks back for my megane cc 2006 diesel. The discs can and are sold without bearings on autodoc, but I bought discs from euros, and whilst they have bearings, the magnetic abs rings are slipped over the back and not part of the bearing.

Thanks for the video mate. I'm planning to buy a 1.5dci version of this car, it's cheap but needs some work to be done.

    Really helpful video.
The piston rewinding tool, is it right or left handed?
