worldsboss yeah i also set my wii to english to have the english voice instead of the german. but i have to say the german voice is very good. the german speaks most of them like the english actor doeas :) 1st place english 2nd place german. to me the others sound quite stupid xD
Hang on, Sheik is officially spelled Shiek in german?! MIND BLOWN. I mean, I studied german in junior high so I know it makes perfect sense given the pronunciation ("Sheik" would be pronounced as "Shike" (rhyming with Ike) in german), but still. So technically spelling it Shiek isn't really a typo so much as using the german spelling. I always thought that was just an easy to make typo, like 'weird' often being spelled as 'wierd', but it technically isn't incorrect. Ya learn something new every day, I guess.
It's also interesting to see all the minor changes that occur in translation, like Meta Knight having a hyphen in German or being a single word (METAKNIGHT) in Japanese, Sheik being spelled as "Shiek" in German for pronunciation purposes, and the Italian version of SSB Brawl using "-" in place for "None" (as in, 'no player') as opposed to "Nessuno". Also, why isn't the Options bar (the thing that says "1-minute KO fest!" in English) as excited in Spanish and Italian? D: (no exclamation point)
I hate that the only way to hear Zero Suit Samus’ name is to win a battle with her and hear it in front of the results screen or hear it in classic mode
@MrJojoks I don't think they have a japanese announcer. Japan's uses the English announcer but pronounces certain characters such as Purin (Jigglypuff) and Koopa (Bowser).
Only the German, French, Italian and Spanish Brawl Announcers are the same in both Wii U & 3DS except in Japanese & English because from now on we got Xander Mobus as the new English Announcer. :D
The German announcer is the best. But it's an example that why I hate name translation/adaptation, they should keep the original name, in this case Japanese (with English Option 'cause most of the PAL land keep the English translation).
If anyone is wondering why Sheik's name is Shiek in German it's because if it's spelled Sheik, then it would be pronounced as "Shike". (rhymes with Ike) So they changed to Shiek to make it sound like "Sheek".
@00doowi yeah in germany they translated all the pokemon names to something that is reffering to their appearance its basically the same name but just translated
I love some of the German name changes: Sheik → Shiek Pokémon Trainer → Pokémon-Trainer Toon Link → Toon-Link Meta Knight → Meta-Knight TL;DR: Heil dem Bindestrich!
Well... that's his name in French... In Canadian French, It's the same too, but the games in Canadian French are better, but there is no Canadian French in Super Smash Bros Brawl
Wow, I've never realized how much the Spanish (and Italian in some cases) pronounciations sound like Finnish in most of the characters.. Well, without the accents they would. Captain Falcon probably the easiest to notice..
I think that is Spain Spanish? Not Latin American Spanish because that's not how we pronounce the names. Pretty much the same unless we go to a few names (Example: Zelda sounds like 'Sel-da' which I wouldn't notice because I am a fluent in English.)
It's weird how some terms are translated (like Toon Link) while others are kept intact (Ice Climbers, which I imagine would be translatable.) It's understandable for proper names to more or less remain the same throughout translation, but titles like "Captain" and such should be translated IMO... It's weird seeing all of the Pokémon names in ALL CAPS... :x Roi Dadidou (King Dedede; French) and Rondoudou (Jigglypuff; French) were utterly hilarious, as well as Italian "Link" and "Peach". XD
English: Peach
German: Peach
French: Peach
Spanish: Peach
Italian: Bitch
XD
Lol
It's an unaspirated p
Maybe the Italian version has a worst Spealing when calling “peach” and its “bitch”😢

Anyone else agree that the German announcer gives certain character names a more epic tone than other languages?
I thought that, too. You can really hear the enthusiasm :)
True
Like Yoshi
Thank you very Much because i'm German.
Bronytendo Ahh, that's cool
English: Ike!

The German announcer's voice is metal as hell. "SCHNELL, BISAKNOSP!"

English is self-explanitory
German is the far superior
French tries his best
Spanish and Italian have never heard of any of these characters before

The German announcer sounds like a badass. Also, SCHIGGY!
Concede it the English one still sounds best.
I play the game in English, so the English one will always be my favorite of course ;)
worldsboss yeah i also set my wii to english to have the english voice instead of the german. but i have to say the german voice is very good. the german speaks most of them like the english actor doeas :) 1st place english 2nd place german. to me the others sound quite stupid xD

***** *pronounced.
I'm no super expert at phonetic script, but yeah, that looks like a phonetic script version of what I'm trying to say.
Redhotsmasher You know for me it was hard to grasp that in english it's Sheik
Redhotsmasher they sometimes keep the English names.

That Italian announcer hates Peach
Spanish announcer could have just said Capitán Falcon instead of Captain.
Actually Captain Falcon's real name is Douglas Jay Falcon.
Beacase that means in spanish
***** What do you mean NTSC Spanish version...? Don't you mean PAL version?
***** NTSC Spanish? What's that?
***** Oooohh... I thought it was- nevermind that, I didn't know NTSC could also be South American.
Oh, c'mon, Italy, you didn't even try for half of these!
Sounds more authentic when you hear italians say Mario and Luigi.
I hate that the only way to hear Zero Suit Samus’ name is to win a battle with her and hear it in front of the results screen or hear it in classic mode
2:36 "Sa-moose"
woi *DAHDEEDOO*
Roi DaDiDou*
ROI DADIDOU
The Italian ones are so funny, "Link Cartooneee" xDDD
LINK CARTONEEH 😂😂😂
French brawl players love to play META NUT 2:55
ROI DADIDOU
Rua Dadidu
Next time, we italians should get a professional voice actor instead of......this....
IosonoOtakuman oh , believe me , in Spanish is worst (even when im Uruguayan)
I think italian is better than the spanish one
5:06 ... I don't care what anyone says. That is the dumbest name difference for any character has to go to Pummeluff & Rondoudou. xD
C'mon.. german pokemon names are awesome. :c
Dark Matter he said roi radidou not that.
123adi123da It's on the screen, man. I don't know...
oh k.
+Dark Matter Rondoudou is actually a really cute name and much more easier for French speakers!
This whole time, it sounded like a teacher telling everyone in his foreign languages class to say these names, one by one.
2:50 Kill Me.
@MrJojoks I don't think they have a japanese announcer. Japan's uses the English announcer but pronounces certain characters such as Purin (Jigglypuff) and Koopa (Bowser).
Cracked up at German Squirtle. "Schiggy" came out of nowhere. XD
King Dedede used to be called "König Nickerchen" (King nap) in Germany before Brawl came out. How could they change it?
0:26, it ranged from sounding like "Peach" to sounding like and angry foreigner saying "bitch"
the german's voice acting wasn't too bad, it sounded nearly identical with the english one (especially at Sheik).
3:03 just to make it easier ;P
Roi DaDiDou!
Only the German, French, Italian and Spanish Brawl Announcers are the same in both Wii U & 3DS except in Japanese & English because from now on we got Xander Mobus as the new English Announcer. :D
French Ganondorf is the best.

Italian: King Daydayday
What the fuck, France.
Nicholas Magliano "WAGH" = "ROI" = "KING"
"Daddydo" = "Dadidou" = "Dedede"
The German announcer is the best. But it's an example that why I hate name translation/adaptation, they should keep the original name, in this case Japanese (with English Option 'cause most of the PAL land keep the English translation).
I like most of the German it makes them sound dangerous. Pokemon Trainer in Italian makes the title sound important
European Wiis have a language option on their setup menus. Most of them come in those five languages.
English: Ike
German: Ike
French: Ike
Spanish: Ekay
Italian: Ike
2:33 Samus is my favorite character
Well, could be worse, I suppose.
I wonder if Brawl's .brfnt has support for Cyrillic characters...
If anyone is wondering why Sheik's name is Shiek in German it's because if it's spelled Sheik, then it would be pronounced as "Shike". (rhymes with Ike) So they changed to Shiek to make it sound like "Sheek".

You had ONE JOB, Spanish Announcer!!
yorkiesandskittles He's been in 2 smash games and it sucks.
yorkiesandskittles 0:31 = Peach = Bitch
YOU HAD ONE JOB ITALIAN ANNOUNCER, ONE JOB.
This is one of those you have to know Spanish things to understand it.
thats how you pronounce it in Spanish!
Spain has the habit of pronouncing stuff as how they're written, countries in latin america use the english pronounciation.
did i just hear "Battle Royale"? 0:01
Like fortnite
In one of them, Peach almost sounded like "b*tch", and Bowser almost sounded like "ballsack"... lol
SCHIGGY!!!
BISAKNOSP!!!
Mike Hawk carapuce.
Miguel Dominguez pumeluf, rodondodu.
Mike Hawk ISHYGDDT
+Mike Hawk (Hertz) Holy shit... Not even gonna say anything.
@Aarseth666Darkness I believe its spelled "Giaponesa" in your language
I think that is Spain Spanish? Not Latin American Spanish because that's not how we pronounce the names. Pretty much the same unless we go to a few names (Example: Zelda sounds like 'Sel-da' which I wouldn't notice because I am a fluent in English.)
Lilith Shiro Yes, it's spain spanish
Konig Dedede Roi Dadedou? How do those translate into those pronounciations?

Roi Dadidou (King Dedede; French) and Rondoudou (Jigglypuff; French) were utterly hilarious, as well as Italian "Link" and "Peach". XD
Ral dadidoo is my favorite character XD

The Italian 'Mario' sounds the best.
DUNKEY KONG!
Ger. Didee Kown
Itallian: DEE DEE KOWNG
4:21 sounds pretty cool in italian
I just noticed.. all the pokemon's names are in all CAPS. huh.
