The future of Africa, discussed by representatives from Ghana, Ethiopia, Ceylon and the Union of South Africa, raises questions such as: Why is foreign aid necessary? Where does it come from? How is it best administered? What can the smaller nations do to help one another? Does aid imply dependence? What are the prospects for African independence? What are prerequisites to independence? What effects does education have on a nation as a whole, and on the individuals in the nation who are more highly educated than the rest?
The Ghanaians showed the highest global aptitude in these conversations...by far. Every Ghanaian that was on the show displayed timeless knowledge of humanity.
True. The Nigerian brotha from the 1957 debate was sharp too.
@@candygirl657Yes! Agreed. Every Ghanaian on the show seemed to be 20 years older than their age. AMAZING. My mecca to Ghana🇬🇭 (or at least the Ivory coast) was solidified after hearing these children
Oh yeah, I re-watched it. That was the episode with a teenage Boniface Offokaja. Absolute murder! No one in the studio had the knowledge of the ocean of information, facts & critical thoughts that he flooded them with. It was simply astonishing✊🏿
@@mlk.ali_X Thats a fact. He was well informed and stood for the humanity of all Africans and did it confidently.

I totally agree

Yes. Just wonderful.
These videos are so great. I agree, I’ve been glued to TH-cam since finding these. Amazing content, a blast back in time
I find these discussions fascinating. The youths of this era were actually very astute. Of course, these particular students are exceptional, you can see that
You’ll know a good debater or communicator in their reply. 5:15 the Ghanaian tried to mock the Ethiopian nation; 5:18 the Ethiopian girl answered calmly with such elegance. BEAUTIFUL!
boo 😒 looser 😂, you never see the good in people, everyone on here is about positive information you’re only worried about who’s mocking who, it’s a fucking debate damn it!!!!!
@@timothytieku809 In fairness he mocked Ethiopia but remember these were kids. He spoke from the heart and kudos to the Ethiopian girl for responding with maturity and class.
that is why Debate is called Debate . Some people translate debate x fight . All the debaters are very well prepared.
A bit of elegant provocation is Ok as long as there is no disrespected .
I love debating because my father , a great defense lawyer was highly trained academically as a debater and taught us how to debate.
Nii well done 🇬🇭 to the world.
Who was that boy?
@@palacemediagh1195 the Ghanaian
This kind of honesty has all but disappeared from modern debate.
Yes, the Ghanaian has made a point I am proud of. He's indicated that ' Africa is the continent of tomorrow' . This boy said this in 1958. And it is gradually coming to fruition. Is he a prophet?
The most impressive thing is that he's a stammerer who managed to articulate his points smoothly throughout. The only problem is that his views (by default derived from Eurocentric education) are Eurocentric
Where is the improvement we are still borrowing money and stilling money saving it to the white man bank it makes when you go Ghana very dirty no development even the 1950s of Ghana is more beautiful and green country than today.

The Hon. Haile Selassie did a lot to advance and open up Ethiopia.
This Ethiopian student was the most pro -Africa and most broad minded Ethiopian I have seen in this series.
He was a brilliant diplomatic politician. However, the damage hes done to the country is evident in today's Ethiopia.
@@ellenintesfay5974 The Negus put ET on a trajectory of modernization and industrialization but needed to move at pace because the people minds change very slowly from feudalism and old ways. HIM built schools and universities that He oversaw himself, and was an original organizer of the OAU along with other pan African leaders of the day, striving for a one Africa model. He educated many of the nobles children oversees and from his own pocket, so that they could return, educated to ET and help to build the country. It was these same ones, who organized the coup to remove him because they felt as though he was moving too slow, and through greed, power and control with inside no outside backing. This is the reason ET has all the problems it has now, because you have just been used and manipulated continuously by corrupt leaders and foreign agendas and influence. Selassie fought to maintain independence of the country for his people, ET being the only county not colonized by foreign powers, and even when Italy came in and occupied, within 5 years he liberated the county. You all should be ashamed of yourselves, and you still trash talking the King. Ungrateful. Learn your history, and not from those that lie to cover their shame. The Land Where Our God Loves to BE?? Yes much progress ET was on when HIM introduced ET to the world. The Bible says, “A prophet is not loved in his own country”. Shame on you.
@@bakiaye6508 When Italy came the 2nd time, Hailiselaise had fled to the UK with his family and his medical team to save his life.

I would have liked to hear a black south African , from those times in such debates
Almost impossible. Apartheid is evil. If you even met an average black South African before 2000 you will understand what I mean. It was very bad.
The nationalist government deliberately sent a European South African, they wouldn't have sent an African in those days.
Imagine a young Biko here!
South Africans in those days were more peaceful than now.The best known
@@leof.n.abrahams8260 Off cause South Africa was peaceful so as the US and USSR. All these countries had lovely/wonderful governments to keep everyone in check just in case they get out of line and they would punish them heavily. I find the Ethiopian girl really attractive. Beautiful and intelligent. Her voice too..
I have learnt a lot from this debate (Together we can make the world a better to live)..the 1959 debate showcase that children are actually the future leaders when giving the right education with practical knowledge to function. I like the open discussion involving different class of people.
I think Ceylon was an poster child for Western aid. The girl from SA was on point about the underlined agendas of foreign powers investing in counties like the Congo. They were probably hating on her when she got back home,
I'm a Nigerian, Respect to the Ghanaian.
The South African girl's statement was incorrect, Europeans kept their colonies disconnected from each other as they were only concerned with extracting resources and nothing else.

This were mature life changing debates. Far better than the current political debates on televisions aimed at dividing people rather than improving the society.
This should be rekindled to the current young generation which is losing the campass.
I agree with you. These political discussions are meant to divide not unite. I am also wondering why this is not being done NOW, because there are many intelligent young children today but all they need is a proper education and they aren't getting it.
It is incredible to me how well informed these international students are individually and how much they seem to be enlightening one another. An impressive cross-cultural group with quite well-developed perspectives on their countries.

This is the first time the Union of South Africa's High School student has been moderately calm, not as cocky and even had a healthy obsession and good knowledge about Nigerian traditions and affairs.
Her dropping of the words "Superior" severally, I'm sure put the other students off, because it was as a result of denying willing black South Africans from acquiring that same Education, skills & experience that lead to the White South Africans,, having the upper hand.

As someone with alot of white South African mates I have met over the last 3-4 years this is fascinating to see as I always wondered what the mindset was like in times like this.

Heres the answer to the question according to me. Aid is political unless it comes from a country with similar problem. The rich and powerful countries doesnt send aid to help the countries, they do it to gain influence and exploit the natural resources.
Let's try and believe one thing as Africans, we have learned that our differences will take us no where.

An African country that's being represented by whites should really raise an eyebrow. As a South African I'm even taken aback at how rehearsed they sound. I've watched so many of these debates I've even found a second channel and they sound so programmed, they all spoke the same thing they were so wrapped around this ideology, it's sad. During the early 50s apartheid was just gaining momentum the agenda was really growing hence they were badly trying to Equate segregation to tribalism. They realised how inhumane this was hence they tried so hard to make excuses, as to why they would treat people this way. Imagine a "Bantu Education", a whole system where you ultimately determine someone else's fate! You choose how successful a person is going to be, you choose what kind of standards a person is meant to live?! How can a race really live off of superiority like this? Wow.
Perhaps you are the one who is wrapped in ideology.
