    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
    Brad did another tour of an Airbnb in Seward. This one is an adorable 1 bedroom tiny house right downtown. It's designed with a downstairs bedroom and no lofts, which makes it more accessible and has an open and airy design with lots of windows.

    I am disabled. Your home has several problems that I run into every day. You should ask a disabled person to walk through the house and they will point out the problems such as the shelves in kitchen are to high.

    • @RPdyke
      @RPdyke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I assume you're talking from a wheelchair users' perspective? Please correct me if I'm wrong! (Or don't if you don't want to disclose that information to someone online) You're 100% right, but disabled is a broad term. My wife is disabled but your specific problems don't apply to her because she has chronic pain, but isn't a wheelchair user (only sometimes when we go out and have to walk a lot). I wish people would use slightly more detailed terms. Every "type" of disabled person has different accessibility needs. I'm trying to think of more accurate words to use for this house but my brain has turned off 😂 I really hope this comment did not come across like I was talking over you, because I do fully agree with you and more should be done to truly make the world accessible to everyone. 💖

    • @mommamylo

      @@RPdyke Thank you for your reply. You are right that there are many levels of mobility for the range of disabled persons. I have to use a walker or wheelchair depending on the distance and activity. I could see an elderly person or couple staying there comfortably. However, a disabled person with limited mobility is going to have difficulty in that space. If you wish to sell or rent to disabled people then you need to do more research. You could start at the Americans with Disabilities Act and there are other tiny home vids in the same genre.

    • @ceresmary206
      @ceresmary206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@RPdyke even if your wife has 'only chronic pain' (I have fibro on top of everything else), stairs in the front would make it impossible over time. The fact the kitchen is laid out as it is, would be difficult for someone with cancer, with dizzinesses that can accompany chronic pain, along with other layout issues. Even the elderly it needs to be ramped to make this accessible for those with balance issues, etc.

    • @RPdyke
      @RPdyke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ceresmary206 Eyyyy she has fibro too! She says chronic pain because she has like 5 chronic illnesses, so chronic pain is just quicker lmao. Fibro is the main pain in the ass though. We want to go tiny and she doesn't want stairs at all, so I get that! And both of us have balance issues. Me more than her, really.
      I agree with you! It's not enough accessibility. It's a start but it's just not good enough. People need to hire (more) disabled people of all kinds, so they can give their imput and make these tiny houses actually accessible.

  • @catiapb1

    Virtually almost no storage, no hoven, fridge too small (it is Alaska you can have heavy snow storms and not be able to go out and shop groceries) stove too small, no counter space for people that actually cook. Where do you put your winter jackets, your snow shoes, and other winter bulky gear?

    I think I would prefer the loft if I owned it, for space for guests or a nook, if married and wanted to craft or read , gives more room and individual area for that. Also I’d flip the table and chairs with the chair and ottoman. The chair and ottoman would then face the tv better and not be in the way of the door like the kitchen chair is. The table and chairs would look better on the half wall across from the kitchen area and then you have more of a circle of setting if friends were over...Really like the floor plan inside and the deck outside. Tfs 💕👍😎

    The first time I visited Seward was August 1964. Locals could tell you what it was like then travelling from Anchorage to Seward, and what damage was still being dealt with from the quake. I made a couple of trips later when the kids and I were out on our camping expeditions. We loved Turnagain Pass area, but once we actually camped just outside of Seward near a gigantic hanger. When it started to rain, (What? Rain in Seward?) we moved tent and all inside the hanger. Interesting trip, that one. I also was there twice for the Silver salmon derby. I'm a bit farther away now and getting up in years so I don't think I'll be back, but I LOVED Seward and highly, highly recommend visiting that beautiful place!

I have been spoiled living here in Southern California almost 60 years, But I do like the inside of the tiny home except for the stove. I like a gas stove. And I like my dishes and other glasswear in a cabinet ..never know when the next Earthquake will happen whether its in California or Alaska and all that glass comes flying out. But again I think the tiny home is awesome.

    Nice place, but you need to put the dimensions in the description area. The pedestal sink in the bathroom is good, but the shower stall needs to be longer and level-entry for disabled people. The shower fixtures should also be the kind for disabled shower stalls. For full-time habitation, the kitchen would need a bigger 2-door fridge & freezer unit. A¾ sized one would work, along with a small dishwasher for those who have trouble standing long enough to hand wash the dishes. The 2-burner stove is a good size, and I have a toaster oven, microwave, bread machine, and 2 crockpots. I have some chrome shelf units that can be used to store them, and other stuff, so I can deal with there not being enough counter space. Some people would also want a washer and dryer. If the bathroom is rotated 90 degrees and put against the end wall a washer and dryer could also fit along that wall. Like another poster mentioned, the living room should be at the front and the dining area should be near the bedroom.
    I am disabled, so lofts are of no use to me. This single floor model, with some modifications might work for me. It is very nice.

But I'll tell you, I definitely glad to see no upstairs & no basement. That's a step in the right direction for retired seniors on a limited income. Also would be nice to have a tool shed to put things for gardening in, etc.

    Love the home. How do you find out where to rent it?

    This is a great start, however needs some more work for someone who would want to live in a tiny like this full-time!
    Those whom are disabled, would have to get this customized to accommodate for their disability(ties).
    Right off the bat, there's no ramp, not enough storage in the kitchen. Those windows (I absolutely love) allow enough light & openess in the kitchen to allow for cabinets on the wall. I don't think it'll be claustrophobic at all.
    I can do with a 2 burner, but would prefer a smaller apt stove with 4 burners & an oven. The small fridge is a No!
    I enjoy cooking & don't think that'll change when I retire one day.
    If I were in a wheelchair, I'd need the countertop to be lower, more space to maneuver in the bathroom, & around the bed. It will still be difficult to fix the sheets with the way the bed is right now.
    Also, what about laundry? That's another thing to consider if one is elderly/disabled.
    Since this is a B&B, I guess you'd need to bring enough clothes for your duration & wash when you get back home! 😅
