August 6, 2020, random comment. Watching this video in 2020. Throwback! I haven't ridden this elevator in years. Fun to see this video again. It was in much better shape the last time I rode it. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've touched this one since my video. Dang. Good times.
I used to work in S.F. about 30 years ago I remember when the Westfield San Francisco Centre was being constructed and watched the renovation of the Emporium building in early 2000. If I remember correctly the S.F. Centre had six or more passenger traction elevators. There used to be a clothing store on Mission which had a winding drum fright elevator landing on Jessie Street. just a ways from Fox Hardware on 4th street.
Probably. That is rather common with bi-parting doors when the levels are close together. That has been incorporated into the design so it's not an issue.
That would be called Pass and Extend. If the floors are too close together, the door is designed so the bottom door on the floor above extends into the floor below when it opens, the top door on the floor below being being made to be a sight bit away from the wall so the bottom door on the floor above can open without hitting it.
I think the reason they put the normal service elevators next to the freight elevator is probably because if someone had just a normal cleaning cart or something the big freight elevator wouldnt be needed
why were you riding the freight elevators!!, you know you were going to get busted in the first place, nobody should ride a freight elevator except employees who have a real fright or something big!!
I take a couple joy rides on this thing some of the times I visit the mall. I've ran into a few employees and they didn't even mind at all that I was riding. Also, the reason why I dress myself up is so I look as if I work or am visiting there.

I love your videos, Andrew.
Does the bottom door on the 6th floor intersect the top door of the 5th floor?

Well it is somewhat organised because both the service elevators and the freight elevator are right next to each other
It is nice
The size of the door frame is different bigger then some floors.
Outside the freight elevator the door frame is actually smaller then the normal service elevators thats kind of odd
cool a freighter with passenger style buttons. looks like nationalelevator works in that mall.
Good video and well done dieselducy
One fluorescent tube missing in the freight elevator.
Haven't you filmed this?
Do these elevators (including the freight) share the same shaft?
if they do that be wild.
feppelevator Sam Sitar All 3 elevators share one hoistway. I've filmed these same elevators a few times.
yes

***** because he did the word that begins with a q and ends with a t and is 4 letters now spell it
i like the OTIS series 7
Series 7 makes me throw up kinda. I love the series 4 buttons!
Why do you not like to film in malls? Because of vintage elevators often being modernized and/or no photography policies?
I think because of trespassing and other such things
I love the freight lift
Me too
