Bolo I'm 35 and I started making beats on FL back in 2002/2003 in high school. I had a good friend who's dad had a full blown 24 track recording studio at his home. They had the cakewalk setup with the Triton and motif rack along with other synth racks. When I showed them my beats and told them I made it on FL they couldn't even believe it. I use FL and absolutely love it. Started with FL when it was fruity loops then went over to MPC for a while because I primarily make boom bap beats and love sampling. Image line has really made FL and its workflow AMAZING in the last few years. So now I'm back with FL with an Akai Fire FL pad with serato sample and it's tough to beat.
Hey, so how does FL make kicks and snares groove? I love the MPC because of the feel it has, but making arrangements and chopping samples is a pain. Do you think FL is great for hip hop?
@@TheWorld_2099 it's all I use FL for is hiphop. There's really no limit to what it can do in my opinion. All you really need to do is spend the time to figure it out. There are tons of youtube tutorials. But ultimately everyone has a workflow that works for them. I just found what works for me.
I agree….Im a real musician and i produce that way in Fl Studio with no issues…..I don’t have any problems with how you make your music in any DAW….Im happy that no one is held down to there creativity…
FL Studio is the DAW people love to hate on, but it is really the most used and - for me - it was the gateway to other DAW’s. Stil use it along with Logic and others. Like you stated, it’s just a tool. Learn it, use it when needed.
I had Fruity Loops in highschool and used Ableton for a little bit but never really got too far with it. Copped FL studio cause I was spending too much time on video games haha. The amount of information out there is incredible, you can find a video on any topic, in different teaching styles. Personally I don't have the space to set up a studio at home, or the funds to rent a studio space. Sometimes I'm watching TV late night, writing melodies with my laptop keys. I think you hit the nail on the head, doesn't matter if it's an MPC, DAW etc, the final product is the juice
It has a unique vibe, but the new update will make many haters think twice. It was never meant to be what it has become. That's why they are the GOAT! They are evolving at the pace of their user base!
The new update wont change what people think. Haters will hate. I will also say fl studio has gotten people lazy sorta. For example no need to know music theory when you can pull up a chord/Scale chart.
@@7oztheproducer True but when you fully learn it you dont need a program to dictate what melodys/chord or progressions to use you can use what you want and know how to use them. With scaler its a lazy way out imo and it takes no time to learn theory. For example with chords if your trying to do them a certain way you will need theory and a dope ear to do it and ear training. I wont go into details but heh yea it can go down a deep rabbit hole thats for sure 100% its good to know your stuff though out
If IL step up and put in those 'pro audio editing' features in FL, it's definitely gonna be the best, hands down. The new 'clip gain' feature in FL21 beta is already looking good so I'm real excited.
@@DETERMINOLOGY Oh def! I'm a musician, a guitarist by trade, and studied music in school. For me, it's cheat codes. Having an education in music def makes it a breeze. I think programs like Scaler 2, the FL Piano roll (and others), actually motivate people to learn theory. The more you know! It's good to push people to want to learn theory and add that to the toolkit!
I talked so much stuff about FL and now I'm like only if I started earlier learning FL. But I learned it love it. And just by clicking notes your training your ear. The youngsters get board of that throw a motif or Triton hardware in front of them they dig it cause it's new and easy to find sounds.
That’s a fact! I feel like my ears been trained so much, I can make Melodie’s in any instrument. I just don’t understand why people think because you make beats in fl studio, you can’t make beats on anything else.
Loops and Samples come from companies selling them and then thousands of people buy all the same loops. I LOVE fl studio because the channel rack resembles the drum machines of old. That's how i was able to learn it so fast back in 2003, almost 20 years ago.
In my personal opinion there is zero way to mess up music. It’s sounds put together to make a melody. Some are just more preferable then others. Preference in your work station is all it is.
Bolo I'm 51 Been producing since 98 and i have pro tools mixbus fl studio studio one and way back i figured out with my triton and my mpc that the pc stuff is relatively the same thing and as long as you can create quality music it doesn't matter what you use as long as you know HOW TO USE IT. These cats are frustrated because they haven't figured out SOMETHING i don't know what but man, i can use them together and get super results.
I agree with you all the way. We can't forget FL is and was big in EDM as well. I remember when 9th Wonder received a lot of heat for using "Fruity Loops" at the time, and he used it like an Mpc. I like to program my beats in Fl over every program. I actually make my drum loops in FL and import them into Ableton, Bitwig, and Reason. FL Studio ain't going nowhere anytime soon. Great Content
As a 34 year old, I started with a ripped FL studio back in 2002. I also believe its one the best starter DAWs with little to no music theory, hands down. I will always recommend FL to anyone just starting, even though I don't use it anymore (Ableton is my jam for live performance). The learning curve is a lot less steep to get what's in your head out into the speakers. As an Ableton fan boy, its hard to say it's the GOAT, but I will say this, it is definitely in the top 2.
Whatever they say it's still gonna be the best... Fl Studio gang forever... I fell in love with it since I first saw it. And I did some crazy great things with it
What Bolo said! As an Old Head with more MPC and Maschine gear and software than you can shake at stick at, FL Studio does it for me every damn time! I can make a beat, mix it, drop in Serato and bounce a set all night long!
I used FLS all through out 2k and thoroughly enjoyed getting into working with it. It has come a long way and really is something else. Not my cup of tea but I would never ever knock someone for using it! I think it is a great avenue for musicians and producers to take advantage of 💯% 👊🧡👍
Fl studio is still the best daw and will always. Ive produced many dope sounding tracks, i started to make beats and music in fl studio 1 mobile, i was like 10 yrs. I was lucky enough that one of my songs made it to one of the dev team, they offered me a free producer edition for pc license. 🧘♂️ im so inlove with fl studio.
I started on FL Studio at the same time Soulja boy started buzzin down in ms and d4l was popping off and folks criticized the simplicity and “ease” of those beats, but once I found out 9th wonder also used it I didn’t care about nothing they said to criticize it
I've been using FL studio Since 6. The piano roll in FL studio is completely unmatched and was what people mainly stuck with it for aside from the awesome FL slicer, ease of use, drag and drop samples and many other things. Add a few new updates, some new vsts and updated user interface and FL is STILL one of, if not, the MOST USED program in the industry. And pro tools used to hold the industry standard but that has steadily changed.
I used to have a problem using these programs, that were not hardware. I had that same dinosaur thought process like some of the older cats. My friend gave me FL and my mind was set, so I didn't try to learn. Then I purchased some new equipment Scarlett and Novation midi keyboard. It came with a free lite version of Ableton and I think for a year I wouldn't even fool with it. Then one day I started messing with it. It took a minute, but I realized how easy it was. Even using loops, I equated that to crate digging and finding gems to use and create. So even though I don't use FL, I realize it is a great tool and those that really know how to use it. They have my respect. I am glad I evolved past that mindset. Good topic Bolo.
When I first started making music 15 years ago, I would arrange different drums in Audacity and just manually move the audio files to make my own loops. When I first discovered FL Studio 6 i thought it was the coolest thing ever. I recently got back into making music and when I got FL Studio 20 it changed sooo much and the learning curve is a little crazy. I think once you master one DAW or hardware setup, it isn't too hard to work with other setups.
Logic Pro X is my choice because of m1 performance and price. A lot of the next generation of aspiring producers are growing up on GarageBand because it's free easy to use and readily available on phone and computer.
I used FL for the first time early on this year. Literally bought it just to learn it bc it’s used by a lot of the producers I send loops to and stuff. Very solid program. And ur right producers can make whatever sound like them. Made a couple projects in Ableton that people swore I did in the Mpc
I'm 59... and I use Studio One Professional and I've rode with them since the beginning. HOWEVER... I saw my son using FL when it was Fruity Loops. I was amazed at how proficient he was with it. YOU MUST BE WILLING to change and explore new things as they become available!!! HELL... that's with anything!!! Now with my age, you'd probably expect to hear similar comments about how FL is not real music or some other snub remark! I honestly wish I knew how to use it!! I applaud these younger brothers and sisters for doing their thing with what they're comfortable with!!! If one is WILLING to OPEN THEIR MIND... they can actually learn a whole lot from the younger generation!! (Listen to Babyface's new release with all of the women!!! Not saying he used FL to do it but his production NOW sounds nothing like it did in the early 90's! WHY... because he was willing to keep up with current trends to REMAIN A DOMINANT force in the industry. This brother is 64 now!!) These older folks better wake up and get with the program... or be left far behind!!!!👊🏾✌🏿
It’s def the goat daw right now. I been using FL studio since 2003 while I was 13! Stood loyal to it all these years and learned so much stuff and so comfortable with it now, I can’t wait till FL 21 gets officially released
I had Reason, and every time I searched for something Fl studio tutorial would pop up. I was trying to incorporate what I was learning from fl studio tutorial to reason, it was not working as a result I said f it and got fl studio. Love it, no regrets!!!
It’s inexpensive, efficient, PC-based, has free updates, has helpful tools built in & a large community. I used to clown on Fruity Loops back around 2004-2007 because it seemed a bit gimmicky at the time but then my brother showed me how he used it and I saw how efficient it was at putting ideas together & completing projects compared to Reason 2/2.5, Reason Rewire & Logic Express 7/Logic 8 (I’m dating myself lol) which was more time consuming at the time. I was very impressed & respected it after that. It’s just a tool, but a very efficient one.
I agree. FL is the GOAT! Definitely, the most used DAW out there and on TH-cam for sure! it wasn't always that way though. People were embarrassed to say they used FL Studio when I started in 2004. I was even embarrassed for a while cause all my homies had Rolands, Motifs, and Tritons. I always used a midi Keyboard from day one, so I don't like the mouse click thing, but if the end result sounds good, doesn't matter how you got to the destination!
you definitely get the most value for the money with it . I pulled out my producer edition ver 9 and compared it to ver 21. I was amazed at how much they included even in much older versions . Your 100 . It's all in how the person uses it .
Bolo, when I moved to Tampa back in 2004, I heard your tag on quite a few beats. Matter of fact, that was the first time I actually paid attention to tags on beats. But you are 100% right on this topic. I'm in my 40s and I've used every DAW all the way back to OG Pro Tools. The software does not make the producer. The fact that there's some much hate on something that makes your job easier has never made any sense to me at all. We use what works with our workflow and if FL isn't someone's cup of 808 sauce, then find something else. I've never caught any heat from using anything and wouldn't care if they were in their feelings or not to stop me from tapping keys or drawing in notes. But I will say, I didn't understand the note placing in FL back in the day because I played everything myself, but now, my keyboard is just for show. #oldheadgang Stay Creative!
All facts.I started wit analog gear. Yahamah Mini cd recorder, drum machines. Then to logic silver. Little after fl studio popped up, but since I understood how to make music. It didnt matter the program.
It all boils down to comfortably. I still have my sp1200, MPC2000, ASR 10, Dat machine, ADAT, Mackie 24.8, rack gear, the whole nine. Upgraded to FL, mpc one, and Native sounds. I use EVERYTHING!! Still love the feel of tweaking knobs that give my sound its uniqueness. A genuine producer just needs to get the sound out by any means.
I love FL studio for some things…MPC for others..and i even make beats in Pro Tools after i drop drums from MPC. There’s a tool for every job..i use them all.
I started with the mpc 60, Roland w30, learned various software for making beats, cakewalk, reason and finally the best program I believe, Fl studio, the swing bar is the truth and the wave editor is the best, but it really all comes down to you and your style, good video bolo, Keep doing your thing, proud of you and your accomplishments, God bless you brother.
I bought FL Studio just to program drums. Before I know I recorded full production with sampled instruments. Than little by little I started using synths. Around the time Skrillex got popular I was already using mostly synths. I got so much milage from GMS and MiniSynth I am not even ashamed of mentioning it. Around 2020 it became clear to me I will always use FL Studio in some capacity and upgraded from there. Now I can save all the plugins.
I'm 40 now... Been using FL Studio since when it was still Fruity Loops in 2004. 9th Wonder was my reason for trying it out. The convo is the same when musicians were mad at hip hop producers in the 80s & 90s and early 2000s for sampling and using the ASR 10, MPC, etc. FL Studio definitely is the GOAT, too many hits have been made on it to not appreciate it!
42yrs old and I have used keyboards, Logic, Reason and even Protools and your right about FL Studio, it's all about the user. For me it's like this, you can use any DAW the process is the same but they just look different except for Ableton. That is the one DAW I dislike however it does have some great features.
Yup! I Been using FL Studio with a midi controller since 2005. I never understood why people would tell me " FL Studio is wack! It's for Toy's not Professional's you should use something better". To me it records midi and audio to make music. I bought a MPC Live 2 to be portable. My Style of beats on the MPC are the same just like on FL Studio. To me DAW's are like a blank sheets of drawing paper. It don't matter what kind of drawing paper you have. One kind of drawing paper won't make the STYLE of your drawing any better than the other kind of drawing paper. It will be the same STYLE of drawing.
FL for life!!! I will say sometimes depending on the setup of the daw and internal sounds in different daws, you may create different depend on the daw, still you have an extra twang from the daw you use lol
I'm 45 years old and I've been using FL Studio for almost 15 years now. I started out using the MPC 3000 in school and in college a friend of mine showed me this program called Fruity Loops. Me being a student of Premier, Showbiz, Q tip, making beats on a program and laptop was ridiculous, but I gave it a try and fell in love with it. I then got Reason because I saw DJ Babu used it at some NAMM showcase back in 2007. It's 2022 and I make beats using both Fl Studio and Maschine Mk3 and I bounce everything into Logic Pro. Whatever the program or DAW, it should represent you and your sound. Like you said Bolo, If you made beats on the ASR or whatever it's your sound you created on each product
I went from Acid Pro 4.0 to FL Stu & was a fan ever since! I still had hardware & still do!! I use hardware more than FL Stu, BUT even though I don't, they STILL HAVE THOSE LIFETIME UPDATES!! And just that alone Bolo makes it the G.O.A.T.!! 👊🏾💯
I remember when Fruity Loops version 3 something. I messed around with it for a minute, not too deep. However, I loved it, left it alone. When FL Studio 4 came out the game was over. I knew this DAW would become a BEAST. It is a BEAST and a lot of producer's use the dmn thing. It's not complicated nor stiff. It has an open swing that allows you to create at blazing speeds. You don't have to think too much, just make music! Whoever created Fruity Loops aka FL Studio is a fn genius!! Your right, FL is the GOAT!!!
version 4 was my first experience. i remember switching to ableton, reaper, studio one but i always find my way back to FL. That piano roll and the way the windows work man, you never feel overwhelmed. even though i'm not fully fond of the other's piano roll-reaper's is kind of cool- and the cluttery feeling of the interfaces- ableton isn't really cluttery, it's that blinkin piano roll- i believe it was necessary for my growth. i would record directly into the playlist from my midi keyboard which helped me to play better, feel the music instead of just programming it. back then that type of flow wasn't so seamless in FL or i didn't know how to achieve it. now we do both program and play them in. i thought i would have jumped ship for logic when i got a mac but no sah it just keeps getting better. we itching for 21 like feens out here.
Fl is for producers who are on a budget. I don’t like it as much as I thought. The stock sounds are not that good. Ableton and my choice for a daw is bitwig because it fits with my workflow.
The way the music biz is now, it’s a necessity to be able to use a DAW for the majority of us. Most of us will be making our money in the Synch, beat store departments. So we need to create a lot and quickly. I’m team logic tho, but that’s because it’s what I came up on. Even though I learned through FL TH-cam producers. But by doing that, it forced me to think deeper into the process as I couldn’t just copy and paste from the producers I’ve been learning from. Big up FL gang, Logic gang and music makers in general. There’s a space for all of us.
Tried every DAW out there, and FL is the only one I can not seem to figure out. I primarily use studio one. But I have the MPC X ,LIVE 4000 a 2000xl. I use ableton and Maschine as well. To me, the Goat is the one that you're comfortable with because a lot of them have similar features.. There are pros and cons with every DAW.
I started with Fl Studio back in 2000 and then switch to Reason but I feel the real GOAT is TH-cam. These TH-cam tutorials has made it alot easier to learn to quickly make beats. Without TH-cam everyone would be struggling to understand how to use EQ, compression ,mixing, make hi hat rolls, sound design ADSR, etc.
I still use my Triton Extreme and Fantom X , I use FL studio because the sequencer. Now those workstations turn into VSTs the sounds are almost equal to its analog counterparts. FL make it really easy to put together a beat you just got to add some compressors and effects to make it sound full. Like you said, you make your type of beats on all platforms. Technology just makes it faster. I love all ways of making a beat, but hands on my old workstation just feels like you been gone from home a long time , you get back home an say awww I'm home.
9th Wonder & Little Brother man... The fact that cracked versions of it got passed around like candy in the Rap/Hip Hop culture speaks to its dominance on the DAW scene. It's top dog.
It is to me what machine wanted to be. I use it as my basic production tool, drum, bass ,keyboard. Basic arrangements then I up load it to my mixing daw to finish it. The access to instruments and sounds is really easy and the piano roll is the best. Very easy to set up percussion patterns, which is why I really like it. Song mode is cool too to arrange in.
Been down since Fruity Loops 2 ..., but have all the major DAWS as well that I mainly use for production. FL is a kool and easy jump-in TOOL!! "Creativity" is KING ... we all need tools, but one is NOT better than the other if your production workflow works for YOU!

@@DETERMINOLOGY Haha add Scaler 2 to the mix….melodies for days
I'm in my late 30s primarily writing and recording metal music. FL is the GOAT.
I’m a MPC head but I have used Fl Studio since 05’ and I’m in my forty’s. I love Fl Studio and all the other Daws.
Yezzir! Well said "A good Workman never blames the tools"
This is funny knowing Bolo's previous opinion on FL lol. Big respect for an OG that can embrace tools from a newer generation.
I think it's like guitar guys arguing over which guitar sounds the best. Just use what you feel most comfortable and have fun with.
FL studio and pro tools are the top audio production tools simply because you can always find solution on TH-cam for any any problem
I always love watching videos of people praising my favourite/one and only DAW 😎🤙🏻
All programs conform to who you are as a producer. You ARE the program.
I'm over 35 and I've been using FL for years.🔥💪💯
Loops and Samples come from companies selling them and then thousands of people buy all the same loops.
I can make a beat, mix it, drop in Serato and bounce a set all night long!
at the time in 2003 the big producers used FL studio in secret and in the magazines they posed with MPC's lol
True
I started on FL Studio at the same time Soulja boy started buzzin down in ms and d4l was popping off and folks criticized the simplicity and “ease” of those beats, but once I found out 9th wonder also used it I didn’t care about nothing they said to criticize it
thank you OG these older people in my age bracket need to learn to adapt FL is the GOAT
I thought Madlib settled this by making a whole album on a ipad. It ain't the tool it's you.
You can use your mpc as a vst plug in right in fl studio that is dope
The fact that you can stack audio and midi ontop of each other… it’s like they didn’t even finish the program
A good Reason to get know how FL Studio works is by using Logic and therefore being Able to nail your music production skills 😊
I see what you did there lol!
Yeah @Bolo I been on that same journey as you from beatshark to fl studio is a beast 🌡️🔊🚀📀
Starting to look toward to these vids Bolo. 💪🏾💪🏾
I love FL and my MPC! Like you said, it's a tool. I started on Pro Tools and switched about 3 or 4 years ago and haven't looked back since.
Been using FL since 99. Started with Electronica. Now I make mostly rap beats.
It’s def the goat daw right now. I been using FL studio since 2003 while I was 13! Stood loyal to it all these years and learned so much stuff and so comfortable with it now, I can’t wait till FL 21 gets officially released
much needed conversation
Don't Stop Bolo! Gems!
As you can see all the fl guys come over and cook it must be the Goat!!
I was amazed at how much they included even in much older
versions . Your 100 . It's all in how the person uses it .
I’m 36 and FL has been my daw of choice since 02
Bolo, when I moved to Tampa back in 2004, I heard your tag on quite a few beats.
Been using FL for like 15 years now. It can be a hold back. But I learned a lot from it period.
Great Topic!....I think all the FL Heads went crazy when We saw this Notification!...& yes since Fruity Loops 3(before they had to change to FL)...lol
Simply make heat, does not matter how, only thing matters is the final product
FL for life!!! I will say sometimes depending on the setup of the daw and internal sounds in different daws, you may create different depend on the daw, still you have an extra twang from the daw you use lol
FL Studio is the future of the business so far. Watching all the way from Vanuatu 😀😁👍🔥🔥🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺
Still prefer mpc beats software but respect everyone's choice
I migrated from Joke Tools to FLStudio and never looked back
Bolo U said it perfectly man. Fl tips has survived the test of time and countless producers.
Facts Bolo it’s all about the user I’m older but I’ve been using FL since FL3 I’m older but I love it ✌🏾
version 4 was my first experience. i remember switching to ableton, reaper, studio one but i always find my way back to FL.
I've made country songs in FL Studio, no sound packs.
Fl is for producers who are on a budget. I don’t like it as much as I thought. The stock sounds are not that good. Ableton and my choice for a daw is bitwig because it fits with my workflow.
I have 39... flstudio is my DAW since 2000
The way the music biz is now, it’s a necessity to be able to use a DAW for the majority of us.
